Our purpose was to evaluate the role of MRI in distinguishing fibrous from active residual masses in treated Hodgkin's disease. Forty patients with residual mediastinal mass larger than 1.5 cm underwent MRI 1, 3, 6, and 12 months after the end of cycles of prescribed chemotherapy or combined chemoradiotherapy. The MRI examinations were performed on a 0.5 and a 1.5 T systems, using T(1) before and after gadolinium injection and T(2)-weighted sequences. Each time the residual mass was evaluated in size and signal intensity on spin echo (SE) T(2)-weighted images and on SE T(1)-weighted images after contrast medium. Low signal intensity and low contrast enhancement were considered signs of inactive residues; homogeneous high signal intensity and high contrast enhancement were indicative of active residual disease; heterogeneous signal intensity and heterogeneous contrast enhancement were indicative of partial remission or necrotic/inflammatory phenomena. MR showed high diagnostic accuracy in the evaluation of Hodgkin's mediastinal residues after treatment, if performed at least 6 months after the end of therapy, reaching the highest sensitivity and specificity values at 12 month follow-up (considering the three parameters-T(2) signal intensity, contrast-enhancement, and size-all together). If we consider the single parameters individually, we can observe that size variation remains the more valuable parameter to predict or to exclude a relapse. MR diagnostic accuracy at the 6-month follow-up was lower due to the higher incidence of inhomogeneous pattern. The accuracy of MR performed at 1 and at 3 months after the end of therapy was not satisfying. This represents a clinical problem because the most important clinical decisions have to be taken just in this early post-treatment phase.  相似文献

Qualitative and quantitative properties of the finite part, H(f), of the Shannon entropy of a continuous waveform f(t) in the continuum limit are derived in order to illuminate its use for waveform characterization. Simple upper and lower bounds on H(f), based on features of f(t), are defined. Quantitative criteria for a priori estimation of the average-case variation of H(f) and log E(f), where E(f) is the signal energy of f(t) are also derived. These provide relative sensitivity estimates that could be used to prospectively choose optimal imaging strategies in real-time ultrasonic imaging machines, where system bandwidth is often pushed to its limits. To demonstrate the utility of these sensitivity relations for this application, a study designed to assess the feasibility of identification of angiogenic neovasculature targeted with perfluorocarbon nanoparticles that specifically bind to alpha(v)beta3-integrin expression in tumors was performed. The outcome of this study agrees with the prospective sensitivity estimates that were used for the two receivers. Moreover, these data demonstrate the ability of entropy-based signal receivers when used in conjunction with targeted nanoparticles to elucidate the presence of alpha(v)beta3 integrins in primordial neovasculature, particularly in acoustically unfavorable environments.  相似文献

Stable suspensions of citrated SPIO nanoparticles were synthesised in one step using a hydrothermal continuous process. Citrates control the crystallite size and the oxidation degree of metallic ions despite the very short reaction time (4 s). The evolution of a myrmecophilous lifestyle in beetles is often associated with morphological alterations. In particular, the antennae of all members of the myrmecophilous ground beetle tribe Paussini are greatly modified, with flagellomeres flattened or crassate, frequently reduced in number from 9 to 5 or even 1 single “antennal club”. The enhanced glandular function of the antennal club has been recently described by scanning (SEM) and transmission (TEM) electron microscopy in Paussus favieri Fairmaire, 1851, where the antenna has become a complex glandular organ, supplying rewarding substances to the ants. In the present work, the antennal sensilla of P. favieri are investigated by SEM, TEM and focused ion beam (FIB/SEM) technology. Most sensilla of scape and antennal club are highly modified mechanoreceptors (i.e. multipointed, fringed, branched, brush-like, sickle-shaped), singly or grouped in tufts (“antennal symphilous organs”). These “trichomes”, here assigned to 8 different morphotypes of sensilla chaetica (Ch.1–Ch.8), show a variable number of basal pores (present also at the base of the taste sensilla Ch.9), which spread dense substances of unknown chemical composition on the seta. Although hygro-, thermo- and chemoreceptors are reduced in number as compared with non-myrmecophilous relatives, and mainly relegated to the apex of the antennal club, their diversity is comparable to that of other carabid beetles: two types of sensilla trichodea (Tr.1–Tr.2); three types of basiconica (Ba.1–Ba.3); one type of campaniformia (Ca); one type of coeloconica (Co) and one type of Böhm sensilla (Bo). Contrary to the hypothesis that Paussus species lack a Johston's organ, a non-connective chordotonal organ composed of 9 groups of scolopidia has been found inside the pedicel. A comparison between sensilla of P. favieri and those of other non-myrmecophilous and myrmecophilous ground beetle species is provided.  相似文献

In several investigations of molecular imaging of angiogenic neovasculature using a targeted contrast agent, Renyi entropy [I(f)(r)] and a limiting form of Renyi entropy (I(f,∞)) exhibited significantly more sensitivity to subtle changes in scattering architecture than energy-based methods. Many of these studies required the fitting of a cubic spline to backscattered waveforms prior to calculation of entropy [either I(f)(r) or I(f,∞)]. In this study, it is shown that the robustness of I(f,∞) may be improved by using a smoothing spline. Results are presented showing the impact of different smoothing parameters. In addition, if smoothing is preceded by low-pass filtering of the waveforms, further improvements may be obtained.  相似文献

We have investigated the superconducting properties of the Bi1.7 Pb0.3Sr2Ca2−xCe x Cu3O10+δ system with x=0.00, 0.02, 0.04, 0.08 and 0.1 by X-ray diffraction and magnetic susceptibility. The substitution of Ce for Ca has been found to drastically change the superconducting properties of the system. X-ray diffraction studies on these compounds indicate decrease in the c-parameter with increased substitution of Ce at Ca site and volume fraction of high T c (2 : 2 : 2 : 3) phase decreases and low T c phase increases. The magnetic susceptibility of this compound shows that the diamagnetic on set superconducting transition temperature (onset) varies from 109 K to 51 K for x=0.00, 0.02, 0.04, 0.08 and 0.1. These results suggest the possible existence of Ce in a tetravalent state rather than a trivalent state in this system; that is, Ca2+ → Ce4+ replacement changes the hole carrier concentration. Hole filling is the cause of lowering T c of the system.  相似文献
