Development of a Millimeter Wave Compact Equipment for NDT of Materials

We developed a compact equipment working at 94 GHz to replace the commonly used network analyzer for nondestructive testing of materials. The compact equipment was designed to measure the variations in the amplitude and phase of the reflected signal from the material relative to a reference signal. A good accuracy of the amplitude and phase measurement of the equipment was obtained in the confirmative experiments. The distribution of a drop of water in a wood plate is clearly visible in the millimeter wave images obtained by the amplitude and phase measurement.     

Effect of equimolar salt to decyltrimethylammonium decyl sulfate on vesicle formation and surface adsorption

The aqueous solution of mixture of sodium decyl sulfate (SDeS) and decyltrimethylammonium bromide (DeTAB) has been found to form equilibrium multilamellar vesicles (MLV) spontaneously. We measured the surface tension of the aqueous solution of 1:1 mixture of SDeS and DeTAB as a function of temperature T at various molalities m under atmospheric pressure. The surface density, the entropy of adsorption and the entropy of vesicle formation are evaluated and compared with those of the decyltrimethylammonium decyl sulfate (DeTADeS) aqueous solution system to investigate the role of small counterions in the mechanism of equilibrium vesicle formation. The saturated surface density Gamma (H,C ) vs T curve of the SDeS/DeTAB system sits below that of the DeTADeS system. Therefore, sodium and bromide ions are negatively adsorbed and nevertheless, they neutralize the electric charge of the decyl sulfate ion DeS(-) and the decyltrimethylammonium ion DeTA(+) to some extent to weaken the electrostatic attraction between the polar head groups in the adsorbed film. The net surfactant concentration required for vesicle formation was larger in the SDeS/DeTAB system. Hence, the electrostatic attraction between the polar head groups of the surfactant ions which is one of the major driving forces for vesicle formation is weakened by the presence of the counterions Na(+) and Br(-). Small but distinct changes in the surface density and the entropies of MLV formation of the SDeS/DeTAB system from those of the DeTADeS system were also found.     

Hexanuclear Pt complexes composed of two cyclic triplatinum units connected with 1,4-diphenylene and 1,1′-ferrocenylene spacer

1,4-Bis(dimethylsilyl)benzene reacted with [Pt₃H(PEt₃)₃(μ-PPh₂)₃] at room temperature to yield trinuclear Pt complex [Pt₃(SiMe₂C₆H₄SiMe₂H)(PEt₃)₂(μ-PPh₂)₃] (1a). Heating a solution containing an equimolar mixture of [Pt₃H(PEt₃)₃(μ-PPh₂)₃] and 1a at 60 °C produced a hexanuclear Pt complex [(PEt₃)₂(μ-PPh₂)₃Pt₃(SiMe₂C₆H₄SiMe₂)Pt₃(PEt₃)₂(μ-PPh₂)₃] (2a). Complex 1a was characterized by X-ray crystallography and NMR spectroscopy, while the structure of 2a was determined by X-ray crystallography of single crystals containing 2a and [Pt₃H₂(PEt₃)₂(μ-PPh₂)₄] in 1:1 ratio. [Pt₃(SiMe₂fcSiMe₂H)(PEt₃)₂(μ-PPh₂)₃] (fc = Fe(η⁵-C₅H₄)₂) (1b) and [(PEt₃)₂(μ-PPh₂)₃Pt₃(SiMe₂fcSiMe₂)Pt₃(PEt₃)₂(μ-PPh₂)₃] (2b) were obtained similarly from the reactions of 1,1′-bis(dimethylsilyl)ferrocene with [Pt₃H(PEt₃)₃(μ-PPh₂)₃] and characterized by NMR spectroscopy and elemental analyses.     

Rapid method for preparing a beta-glucan-specific sensitive fraction from Limulus (Tachypleus tridentatus) amebocyte lysate

By separating Limulus amebocyte lysate by cation-exchange chromatography with an SP-Toyopearl 650C column, a fraction insensitive to endotoxin, yet specifically sensitive to beta-glucan, was successfully obtained in the unadsorbed portion. This fraction showed beta-glucan dose-dependent clotting enzyme activity, although no sensitivity to endotoxin. This beta-glucan-dependent reaction showed no interference in the presence of endotoxin, with the fraction also showing sensitivity towards various kinds of beta-glucan, i.e. curdlan, pachyman, laminaran and lichenan. The sensitivity towards curdlan was approximately 10(-10) g/ml.     

Synthesis of diazepinoquinoxalines and imidazolobenzopteridines

Diazepinoquinoxalines 3, 4 and imidazolobenzopteridines 5, 6a-d, 7a-d, 8, 9 were synthesized from 3-allylamino-6,7-dimethyl-2-quinoxalinecarboxamide ( 1 ) and 2-allylamino-6,7-dimethyl-3,4-dihydrobenzo[g]pteridin-4-one ( 2 ) by the intramolecular cyclization using phenylselenenyl chloride.

In the reduced, pure dimensional, characteristic zero case A can be described as a submodule of the module Q(A)_AA of meromorphic differential forms, and it has the image of _A as submodule. Now in this case one can compare the De Rnam-cohomology of _A with the cohomology of _A, which is of interest in studying analytic or algebraic singularities.     

Optimization of a multi-residue screening method for the determination of 85 pesticides in selected food matrices by stir bar sorptive extraction and thermal desorption GC-MS

A multi-residue method to determine 85 pesticides, including organochlorine pesticides, carbamates, organophosphorus pesticides, and pyrethroids, in vegetables, fruit, and green tea, has been developed. The method is based on stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) coupled to thermal desorption (TD) and retention time locked (RTL) GC-MS operating in the scan mode. Samples are extracted with methanol and diluted with water prior to SBSE. Dilution of the methanol extract before SBSE was optimized to obtain high sensitivity and to minimize adsorption onto the glass wall of the extraction vessel as well as to minimize sample matrix effects (particularly for the pesticides with high log K(o,w) values). The optimized method consists of a dual SBSE extraction performed simultaneously on respectively a twofold and a fivefold diluted methanol extract. After extraction, the two stir bars are placed in a single glass thermal desorption liner and are simultaneously desorbed. The method showed good linearity (r2 > 0.9900) and high sensitivity (limit of detection: < 5 microg kg(-1)) for most of the target pesticides. The method was applied to the determination of pesticides at low microg kg(-1) in tomato, cucumber, green soybeans, spinach, grapes, and green tea.     

Structures of 1,4-benzodioxane derivatives from the seeds of Phytolacca americana and their neuritogenic activity in primary cultured rat cortical neurons

The methanol extract of the seeds of Phytolacca americana was reinvestigated to yield three new 1,4-benzodioxane-type compounds, americanoic acid methyl ester (1), isoamericanoic acid A methyl ester (2), and 9'-O-methylamericanol A (3) along with the previously isolated neolignans 6-9. The structures of 1-3 were characterized by 2D NMR and long-range selective proton-decoupling (LSPD) techniques. The neuritogenic effects of compounds 1-3, and dicarboxilic acids 4 and 5, which had been previously synthesized with horseradish peroxidase-catalyzed oxidative coupling of caffeic acid, were examined in primary cultured rat cortical neurons. Americanoic acid A methyl ester (1) exhibited neurite outgrowth-promoting activity at concentration of 0.01-1.0 microM, whereas dicarboxilic acids 4 and 5 were found to induce neuritogenesis dose dependently at the concentrations from 0.1 microM to 10 microM.     

An efficient 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition between aromatic selenoaldehydes and nitrile oxides or nitrile imines: an easy access to selenium-containing five-membered heterocyclic ring system

1,3-Dipolar cycloaddition between aromatic selenoaldehydes, generated by thermal retro Diels-Alder reaction of anthracene cycloadducts, and nitrile oxides or nitrile imines proceeded efficiently to give the corresponding [3+2] cycloadducts as a single isomer in good yields, being 1,4,2-oxaselenazoles or 1,3,4-selenadiazoles, respectively.
