Manufacture of Magnesium Oxide Nanoparticles Coated with Silica Shells

MgO@SiO₂ core–shell nanoparticles were manufactured, and a synthetic protocol was developed to prepare MgO nanoparticles where the SiO₂ shell thickness was less than 10 nm. The influence of synthesis parameters on the formation of MgO@SiO₂ nanoparticles was studied. The fact of a SiO₂ shell being formed on the MgO surface was established and the sizes of the thus-prepared MgO@SiO₂ nanoparticles were determined by TEM and Fourier-transform IR spectroscopy.     

Contribution from cosmological scalar perturbations to the angular velocity spectrum of extragalactic sources

The possibility of the influence of adiabatic scalar perturbations on the angular velocity spectrum of extragalactic sources is considered. The multipole expansion coefficients of the angular velocity field in terms of vector spherical harmonics are calculated. We show that there is no contribution from adiabatic perturbations to the angular spectrum for a spatially flat Universe at the dusty stage, while there is a contribution only to the electric multiple coefficients at the stage of ??-term domination. The cases of long-wavelength and short-wavelength perturbations are considered separately. The relationship between the multipole angular velocity spectrum and the primordial scalar perturbation spectrum is discussed.     

Electrical transport and magnetic ordering in R 2Ti3Ge4 (R=Dy, Ho and Er) compounds

New R ₂Ti₃Ge₄ (R=Dy, Ho and Er) intermetallic compounds have been synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction and low temperature ac magnetic susceptibility, electrical resistivity and thermoelectric power measurements were carried out. The compounds crystallize in the parent, Sm₅Ge₄-type orthorhombic structure (space group Pnma) and lanthanide contraction is observed as one moves along the rare-earth series. The changeover from paramagnetic to antiferromagnetic phase happens at low temperatures and the ordering temperature scales with the de Gennes factor. The electrical resistivity is metallic with a negative curvature above 100 K. Thermopower displays a weak maximum at temperatures less than 50 K signifying the possible phonon and magnon drag effects.     

Equilibrium Analysis in Kantorovich Spaces

The paper presents a survey of new results in general equilibrium theory with linear vector lattice commodity space (Kantorovich space). The importance of order structures and the Riesz-Kantorovich formula is clarified. The main novelty of the paper is new characterizations of elements of the fuzzy core in an exchange economy. Then we apply these characterizations to prove a new theorem on the existence of quasi-equilibrium for a linear vector lattice economy. This theorem, based on the E-properness of preferences by Podczeck-Florenzano-Marakulin, develops the Florenzano-Marakulin approach and generalizes previous Tourky's results. Elastic properties of the Ta–V system: bcc Ta0.33V0.67 and C15 TaV2

Resonant ultrasound spectroscopy was used to measure the elastic constants of bcc Ta_0.33V_0.67 over the temperature range 3.5–300?K; the results were compared to earlier measurements on C15 TaV₂. The temperature dependence of the polycrystalline shear modulus is completely different in the two phases; that of the bcc phase decreases with temperature whereas that of the C15 phases increases in an anomalous fashion. This difference is consistent with a model involving doubly-degenerate levels at the X point of the Brillouin zone in the C15 phase with the Fermi level lying near the doubly degenerate level. This model accounted for the unusual behaviour of the C15 phase. Debye temperatures were determined from the ultrasonic measurements: 295?K for the C15 phase and 315?K for the bcc phase.     

Femtosecond mode-locked holmium fiber laser pumped by semiconductor disk laser

We report on a 2085 nm holmium-doped silica fiber laser passively mode-locked by semiconductor saturable absorber mirror and carbon nanotube absorber. The laser, pumped by a 1.16 μm semiconductor disk laser, produces 890 femtosecond pulses with the average power of 46 mW and the repetition rate of 15.7 MHz.
