Europium (Eu+) ions were confined in a Paul trap and detected by non-destructive method. Storage time of Eu+ ions achieved in vacuum was improved by orders of magnitude employing buffer gas cooling. The experimentally detected signal was fitted to the ion response signal and the total number of ions trapped was estimated. It is found that the peak signal amplitude as well as the product of FWHM and the peak signal amplitude is proportional to the total number of trapped ions. The trapped ion secular frequency was swept at different rates and its effect on the absorption line profile was studied both experimentally and theoretically.  相似文献

The behavior of acoustic phonons in crystals of a relaxor ferroelectric, namely, the lead scandium tantalate PbSc1/2Ta1/2O3 (PST), is studied in the vicinity of the diffuse phase transition. The behavior of longitudinal and transverse acoustic phonons in a PST single crystal is examined using Brillouin scattering. The phonon subsystem is found to behave anomalously in the vicinity of T = 297 K, which can probably be assigned to the existence of a phase transition. Analysis of the results obtained yields the values of the elastic moduli C11, C12, and C44 for the cubic phase of the crystal over a wide temperature range.  相似文献

We propose using a nonlinear phase-shift interferometric converter (NPSIC), a new device, for lumped compensation for nonlinearity in optical fibers. The NPSIC is a nonlinear analog of the Mach-Zehnder interferometer and provides a way to control the sign of the nonlinear phase shift. We investigate a potential use of the NPSIC for compensation for nonlinearity to develop a dispersion-managed system that is closer to an ideal linear system. More importantly, the NPSIC can be used to essentially improve single-channel capacity in the nonlinear regime.  相似文献

The acylation and carbomethoxylation of 2-methylindolizine were studied. In most cases minor amounts of the 1-substituted isomers were isolated in addition to the usual products of substitution in the 3 position. A nonlinear theory is presented for the formation of hexagonal optical structures in a photorefractive medium equipped with a feedback mirror. Oppositely directed beams in photorefractive crystals are unstable against the excitation of sideband waves. It is shown here that as this instability evolves to its nonlinear stage, the three-wave interaction between weak sideband beams does not stabilize it, but rather leads to explosive growth of the amplitudes of beams whose transverse wave vectors form angles that are multiples of π/3. As a result, sideband beams at these angles are found to be correlated. A range of parameters is found in which four-wave interactions saturate the explosive instability, which explains the appearance of stable hexagons in the experiment. Outside this region, nonlinearities of higher order saturate the explosive instability, and the process of hexagon generation must be studied numerically. Matrix elements are obtained for the three-and four-wave interactions as functions of the distance to the feedback mirror, and an equation for the time evolution of the sideband wave amplitudes is derived that describes the hexagon generation. We find the threshold and the generation angle for transverse instability of quasi-phase-matched counter-propagating fundamental and second-harmonic beams in a bulk c((2)) medium. Numerical estimates indicate that the instability should be observable with currently available materials.  相似文献
