Various Nafion coating procedures were examined in order to design a simple and reproducible coating method to maximise permselective characteristics, and thus eliminate signals from electroactive interferents, in sensors designed for direct in vivo measurements in the brain. Interferents investigated included ascorbic acid (AA), the principal endogenous electroactive interferent present in the brain, and uric acid. Application of the Nafion (5% commercial solution) using a thermally annealing procedure involving 5 pre-coats, and 2 subsequent dip-bake layers resulted in elimination of interferent signals. It also produced complete blocking of the signal for the neurotransmitter dopamine. The optimum time and temperature for annealing was found to be 5 min at 210 degrees C. An examination of shelf life over two weeks indicated negligible AA interference over this period. Preliminary investigations with respect to the potential use of these Nafion-modified Pt electrodes in the design of implantable, first generation, peroxide detecting biosensors indicated that the modified electrode had no effect on O2 permeability but did produce a significant decrease in H2O2 sensitivity. While this may preclude their use in biosensor development they may be more suitable for detection of gaseous neurochemicals such as nitric oxide.  相似文献

The Henry's law and diffusion constants of vinyl chloride in poly(vinyl chloride) were determined at temperatures of 24, 90, 120, 150, and 170°C for weight fractions of vinyl chloride between 0.2 × 10?3 and 0.8 × 10?3. Above 90°C, Henry's law applies; values of the constant increase with temperature from 1.8 × 102 to 5.5 × 102 atm per unit weight fraction of dissolved vinyl chloride. The heat of desorption is about 15 kJ/mole. At 24°C, the nominal Henry's law constant was smaller than would have been obtained by extrapolating the values found at higher temperature. The diffusion constants increase with temperature from about 2 × 10?13 to 3 × 10?7 cm2/sec. The activation energy for diffusion is about 110 kJ/mole between 90 and 170°C. Although all values were determined in the absence of air, it is likely that they apply to polymer in air. They may, therefore, be used to calculate the vinyl chloride content in the gas above poly(vinyl chloride) under specific processing conditions.  相似文献

This review covers recent progress in polyelectrolyte multilayer (PEM) coatings applied to analytical separations using open-tubular capillary electrochromatography (OT-CEC). The simple preparation procedure involved in the PEM approach has provided some attractive features over other modes of capillary electrophoresis-based separations including packed column capillary electrochromatography (PC-CEC) and micellar electrokinetic chromatography (MEKC). PEM coatings have been used to alleviate the adsorption of basic analytes, to improve separations, and to improve the stability of the electroosmotic flow. Fundamental aspects of PEM coatings on surfaces and analytical separation platforms are briefly outlined in this review. In addition, applications of PEM coatings to fused-silica capillaries or microchip separation devices for the separation of small achiral or chiral analytes, as well as large biomolecules, are discussed.  相似文献

The catalytic process of photoinduced hydrogen generation via the reduction of water has been investigated. The use of parallel synthetic techniques has facilitated the synthesis of a 32 member library of heteroleptic iridium complexes that was screened, using high-throughput photophysical techniques, to identify six potential photosensitizers for use in catalytic photoinduced hydrogen production. A Pd/Ni thin film hydrogen selective sensor allowed for rapid quantification of hydrogen produced via illumination of aqueous systems of the photosensitizer, tris(2,2'-dipyridyl)dichlorocobalt ([Co(bpy)(3)]Cl(2)), and triethanolamine (a sacrificial reductant) with ultra-bright light emitting diodes (LEDs). The use of an 8-well parallel photoreactor expedited the investigation of the hydrogen evolution process and facilitated mechanistic studies. All six compounds investigated produced considerably more hydrogen than commonly utilized photosensitizers and had relative quantum efficiencies of hydrogen production up to 37 times greater than that of Ru(bpy)(3)(2+).  相似文献

Rats were implanted in the striatum with a Pt/Ir electrode for measurement of regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) (H(2) clearance technique), a carbon paste electrode for monitoring tissue oxygen and a glucose biosensor for monitoring extracellular glucose. Changes in all three parameters were recorded in response to the intraperitoneal (i.p.) administration of the anesthetics chloral hydrate (350 mg/kg), sodium pentobarbitone (60 mg/kg) and ketamine (200 mg/kg). An i.p. injection of normal saline, given as a control for the injection of the anesthetics, produced a parallel increase in rCBF and tissue oxygen accompanied by a brief decrease in extracellular glucose. Changes in tissue oxygen reflected the changes in rCBF; there was a decrease in both after sodium pentobarbitone, a decrease followed by a rebound after ketamine and a transient increase after chloral hydrate. All three anesthetics produced a decrease in extracellular glucose. The disparity between the changes in glucose and the changes in rCBF and oxygen suggests that during anesthesia, the reduction in extracellular glucose is not due to a reduction in the direct delivery of glucose from the blood vascular system. These results also indicate that levels of enzymatic substrates and mediators, which are intrinsic to the design and operation of amperometric biosensors, are clearly altered in a complex manner by anesthesia and suggest that caution should be exercised in extrapolating data from acute anesthetized experiments to normal physiology.  相似文献

Fully sulfonated poly(styrenesulfonate) brushes were grown from the surface of colloidal silica particles and used to prepare stable trichloroethylene-in-water and heptane-in-water Pickering emulsions. These particles were highly charged and colloidally stable in water but could not be dispersed in trichloroethylene or heptane. Both two-phase (emulsion plus neat water) and three-phase (emulsion separating neat oil and water phases) systems were observed, with water-continuous emulsion phases in all cases. Emulsion phases containing as much as 83% (v/v) oil were stable for over six months. Poly(styrenesulfonate)-grafted particles were very efficient emulsifiers; stable emulsion phases were prepared when using as little as 0.04 wt% particles. The emulsifying effectiveness of the poly(styrenesulfonate)-grafted silica particles can be attributed to the hydrophobicity of the vinylic polymer backbone that makes this highly charged polyelectrolyte unusually surface active at the oil/water interface.  相似文献
