Summary A method for calculating the adsorption of polymer onto pigmentary forms of titania from solution is described. It is based en the assumption that titania surfaces, coated. or not, can be treated as water surfaces. From a knowledge of interfacial parameters and the surface area of the pigment the amount of polymer adsorbed from solution can be calculated.The experimentally determined polymer adsorption isotherms were found to lie within the two predicted polymer adsorption isotherms based on (a) surface area of pigment from nitrogen adsorption. (b) surface area of pigment from electron micrographs.
Zusammenfassung Es wird eine Methode zur Berechnung der Adsorption von Polymeren aus Lösungen an Titandioxyd-Pigmenten beschrieben. Sie basiert auf der Annahme, daß Titandioxyd-Oberflächen, sowohl beschichtet als auch nicht beschichtet, wie Wasseroberflächen behandelt werden können. Wenn die Grenzflächenparameter und die Abmessungen der Oberfläche des Pigments bekannt sind, kann die aus der Lösung adsorbierte Polymerisatmenge berechnet werden.Es wurde festgestellt, daß die experimentell bestimmten Polymeradsorptionsisothermen innerhalb der zwei vorhergesagten Polymeradsorptionsisothermen liegen, die auf (a) der Pigmentoberfläche aus der Stickstoff Adsorption, (b) der Pigmentoberfläche aus Elektronen-Mikrographien basieren.

We have observed, for the first time, LS-forbidden triplet doubly excited states, in single photon excitation of ground state helium, below the second ionization threshold. These states are identified as (3)D(o) and (3)P(o) and their excitation is due to spin-orbit interaction that mixes them with the optically allowed (1)P(o) states. This observation is possible due to the very high efficiency in detecting metastable atoms created after the fluorescence decay of the doubly excited states, and the new capabilities of third generation synchrotron vacuum ultraviolet sources with high resolution beam lines.  相似文献

The heats of immersion of partially dried anatase and rutile pigments in mixtures of water with methanol, ethanol, and n-propanol were measured by a differential calorimetric method. The anatase heats of immersion could best be explained by assuming preferential adsorption of the alcohols, the effect being greatest for n-propanol The rutile pigment, however, appeared to adsorb water preferentially in methanol—water and ethanol—water mixtures over the whole concentration range. In propanol—water mixtures the rutile pigment preferentially adsorbed water below an alcohol mol fraction of 0.25, and preferentially adsorbed propanol at mol fractions of alcohol greater than 0.25. The differences in behaviour between the two pigments may be explained qualitatively from the point of view of their surface morphology.  相似文献

In this work we report the structural characteristics of bovine serum albumin/poly(ethylene glycol) lipid conjugate (BSA/PEG(2000)-PE) complexes under physiological conditions (37 degrees C and pH 7.4) for particular fractions of BSA to PEG-lipid concentration, c(BSA)/c(PEG)(2000)-PE. Ultraviolet fluorescence spectroscopy (UV) results shown that PEG(2000)-PE is associated to BSA, leading to protein unfolding for fixed c(BSA) = 0.01 wt % and variable c(PEG)(2000)-PE = 0.0015-0.6 wt %. Tryptophan groups on the BSA surface are in contact with the PEG-lipid at c(PEG)(2000)-PE = 0.0015 wt %, while they are exposed to water at c(PEG)(2000)-PE > 0.0015 wt %. Dynamic and static light scattering (DLS and SLS) and small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) point out the existence of individual BSA/PEG-lipid complexes in the system for fixed c(BSA) = 1 wt % and variable c(PEG)(2000)-PE = 0.15-2 wt %. DLS shows that there is only one BSA molecule per protein/PEG-lipid complex, while SLS shows that the PEG-lipid associates to the BSA without promoting aggregation between adjacent protein/polymer-lipid conjugate complexes. SANS was used to show that BSA/PEG(2000)-PE complexes adopt an oblate ellipsoidal shape. Partially unfolded BSA is contained in the core of the oblate ellipsoid, which is surrounded by an external shell containing the PEG(2000)-PE.  相似文献

In this paper we introduce a two-sided Arnoldi method for the reduction of high order linear systems and we propose useful extensions, first of all a stopping criterion to find a suitable order for the reduced model and secondly, a selection procedure to significantly improve the performance in the multi-input multi-output (MIMO) case. One application is in micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS). We consider a thermo-electric micro thruster model, and a comparison between the commonly used Arnoldi algorithm and the two-sided Arnoldi is performed.  相似文献

The spectroscopy and metastability of the carbon dioxide doubly charged ion, the CO(2) (2+) dication, have been studied with photoionization experiments: time-of-flight photoelectron photoelectron coincidence (TOF-PEPECO), threshold photoelectrons coincidence (TPEsCO), and threshold photoelectrons and ion coincidence (TPEsCO ion coincidence) spectroscopies. Vibrational structure is observed in TOF-PEPECO and TPEsCO spectra of the ground and first two excited states. The vibrational structure is dominated by the symmetric stretch except in the TPEsCO spectrum of the ground state where an antisymmetric stretch progression is observed. All three vibrational frequencies are deduced for the ground state and symmetric stretch and bending frequencies are deduced for the first two excited states. Some vibrational structure of higher electronic states is also observed. The threshold for double ionization of carbon dioxide is reported as 37.340+/-0.010 eV. The fragmentation of energy selected CO(2) (2+) ions has been investigated with TPEsCO ion coincidence spectroscopy. A band of metastable states from approximately 38.7 to approximately 41 eV above the ground state of neutral CO(2) has been observed in the experimental time window of approximately 0.1-2.3 mus with a tendency towards shorter lifetimes at higher energies. It is proposed that the metastability is due to slow spin forbidden conversion from bound excited singlet states to unbound continuum states of the triplet ground state. Another result of this investigation is the observation of CO(+)+O(+) formation in indirect dissociative double photoionization below the threshold for formation of CO(2) (2+). The threshold for CO(+)+O(+) formation is found to be 35.56+/-0.10 eV or lower, which is more than 2 eV lower than previous measurements.  相似文献
