Fluctuation study of pionisation in ultrarelativistic nucleus-nucleus interaction

The scaled factorial moments and the multifractal moments have been investigated in differentη-intervals to study the dynamical fluctuation of pions produced in 200 AGeV³²S-Ag/Br interaction. In order to investigate the detail characteristics of intermittency behaviour, theF-moments are extracted up to the eighth order of moments in differentM-intervals. The analysis indicates a non-thermal phase transition and different regime of particle production during the hadronisation process.     

Painlevé analysis and hamiltonian structure of a new space-dependent KdV equation

We deduce the Lax pair for a new space-dependent KdV equation, , via the technique of Painlevé analysis. From it, infinitely many conservation laws are deduced and the symplectic structure is obtained.     

Micellar enhanced ultrafiltration of phenolic derivatives from their mixtures

Micellar enhanced ultrafiltration (MEUF) of different phenolic derivatives including meta-nitrophenol (MNP), catechol (CC), para-nitrophenol (PNP), and beta-napthol (BN) in their binary mixture has been studied. A 1:1 ratio of the mixture of (i) MNP with CC and (ii) PNP with BN is taken for the MEUF experiments using a cationic surfactant, namely, cetyl(hexadecyl)pyridinium chloride (CPC). An organic polyamide membrane with molecular weight cutoff of 1000 is used. Experiments are conducted using an unstirred batch cell and a continuous cross-flow cell. The effects of various operating conditions, e.g., concentrations of surfactant and solute in the feed, transmembrane pressure drop, and cross-flow rate (for cross-flow experiments) on the permeate flux and the observed retention of each solute have been studied in detail. The retention of solutes without using the surfactant varies from 3 to 15% only at a typical feed solute concentration of 0.09 kg/m3, whereas, under the same operating pressure (345 kPa), retention at the end of the experiment increases to about 66 to 99.8% depending on the nature of solute in the batch cell using surfactant micelles (10 kg/m3). Retention of solutes is less in the case of the two-component feed solution compared to the single-component feed solution. An increase in flux to the range of 9 to 16% is realized in cross-flow experiments compared to batch cell flux after one hour of operation.

Calotropis procera extract induces apoptosis and cell cycle arrest at G2/M phase in human skin melanoma (SK-MEL-2) cells

Calotropis procera (family: Asclepiadaceae) contains cardiac glycosides which are cytotoxic to cancer cells. The extracts of C. procera have been reported to be cytotoxic to many cancer cell lines and this is the first report against the human skin melanoma cells (SK-MEL-2). The SK-MEL-2 cells treated with C. procera methanolic extract (CPME) were analysed for growth inhibition and apoptosis. The exposure of phosphatidylserine in apoptotic SK-MEL-2 was analysed by using the Annexin-V FITC flow cytometry method. In CPME-treated SK-MEL-2 cells, 19.6% of apoptotic and 58.3% dead cells were observed. The 15.97% and 15.85% of early apoptotic cells were found at 20 μg/mL of the ouabain and paclitaxel, respectively. Active caspases, nuclear degradation confirmed apoptotic SK-MEL-2 cells in time- and dose-dependent manner. The cell cycle analysis shows that CPME treated cells halt at G2/M phase. Significant cytotoxic activity of CPME against SK-MEL-2 may be attributed to its high cardenolide content.     

Double charge transfer cross sections in collision of protons with helium atom

Theoretical total cross sections for the double charge transfer in proton-helium collisions are analysed using the four-body boundary corrected continuum intermediate state approximation in the energy range of 30 to 500 keV. We have also obtained differential double capture cross sections as a functions of projectile scattering angle. The intermediate continuum state of each of the active electron has been taken into account in this formalism. Our calculated results are compared with the previous experimental and theoretical values. The agreement is very encouraging.
