Comparing dendritic with linear esterase peptides by screening SPOT arrays for catalysis

Fluorescence screening of a 96-membered SPOT library of histidine containing dendritic and linear peptides revealed the remarkable esterolytic activity of short histidine oligomers that show catalytic proficiencies within one order of magnitude of histidine-containing esterase peptide dendrimers.     

Coronary artery stent mimicking intracardiac thrombus on cardiac magnetic resonance imaging due to signal loss: case report

Since the introduction of percutaneous coronary intervention for coronary artery disease, thousands of patients have been treated with the implantation of coronary stents. Moreover, several of the patients with coronary stent undergo cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging every year. This case report is of a 77-year-old man who was previously treated with the implantation of a coronary stent in the left circumflex artery. He underwent CMR imaging, which revealed a process 14×21 mm in the left atrium. Cardiac contrast computed tomography did not demonstrate any cardiac pathology. While the signal loss on MRI associated with implanted metallic devices is known, we report a case where an implanted coronary stent in the left circumflex artery led to an intracardiac signal loss mimicking intracardiac thrombus/tumor.     

Structural investigations of the Yb  Si(111) - 2x1, 5x1 and 3x1 overlayers

The YbSi interface has been investigated in the sub-monolayer regime employing Ion Scattering Spectroscopy (ISS), Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES) and Low Energy Electron Diffraction (LEED). Three different structures, YbSi(111) 2x1, YbSi(111) 5x1, and YbSi(111) 3x1, have been established by heat treatments of the interfaces. The structures consist of a stable overlayer of Yb atoms on the Si(111) surfaces. The distance of the Yb atoms to the uppermost layer of Si atoms has been estimated by comparing the YbSi ISS intensity ratio with the predictions of a model based on classical scattering theory and a Thomas-Fermi-Moliére potential. The height of the Yb atoms relative to the substrate toplayer was found to be 1.9 ± 0.3→.

Zn-proline catalyzes the aldolisation of unprotected glycolaldehyde in water to give tetroses and hexoses; threose (33% of the product mixture) was formed with 10% enantiomeric excess of the D-isomer.     

Auditory evoked magnetic fields from the human brain. Source localisation in a single-dipole approximation

Experimental results on late auditory evoked magnetic fields from the right side of the human brain are presented. It is shown that the results can be described by means of a source model consisting of a single, equivalent current-dipole with a dipole moment of ≈ 10^?8 A m and a location close to the electrode position T₄ and between 10 and 25 mm below the surface of the skull.     

Identification of protease substrates by combinatorial profiling on TentaGel beads

Reacting a 65,536 member combinatorial library of octapeptides on TentaGel beads with various proteases followed by selective staining of the free amino termini at the reacted bead surface and sequence determination by amino acid analysis allowed the rapid identification of protease substrates.     

Prebiotic carbohydrate synthesis: zinc-proline catalyzes direct aqueous aldol reactions of alpha-hydroxy aldehydes and ketones

Zn-proline catalyzed aldolisation of glycoladehyde gave mainly tetroses whereas in the cross-aldolisation of glycoladehyde and rac-glyceraldehyde, pentoses accounted for 60% of the sugars formed with 20% of ribose.
