Rings with x(yz)=z(yx)

In non-associative rings the associative law is replaced by various weaker identities. In this paper the identity x.yz = z.yx is considered. Let R be a ring satisfying this identity. It is obvious that if R has an identity element, then R is both commutative and associative. It is shown that if R is prime, third power associative, 2-torsion free, and has a nonzero idempotent, then this idempotent must be an identity and hence R must be commutative and associative.     

Gamma radiation following heavy ion reactions

The gamma radiation produced by bombarding ²⁷A1 and ²⁸Si targets with 25–50 MeV ¹⁶O ions was measured in order to study the formation and decay of the highly excited compound nuclei ⁴³Sc and ⁴⁴Ti. The relative population of the evaporation residues is fairly well reproduced by a statistical theory describing the successive emission of 1–3 light fragments. From the measured branching ratio between proton and α-particle emission, the moment of inertia parameter of the level density is found to be close to the rigid body value. The influence of heavy ion optical transmission factors, level density parameters and γ-ray decay widths of continuum states is investigated.     

Reorientation effect measurements and multiple coulomb excitation in102Ru

The quadrupole moment of the first 2⁺ state in¹⁰²Ru and fourB(E2) values have been measured by means of Coulomb excitation. The results are:Q ₂₊=?0.68(8)eb;B(E2, 01/+→21/+)=0.617(5)e ² b ²;B(E2, 01+→22/+)=0.013 (2)e ² b ²;B(E2, 21/+→22/+)= 0.07(1)e ² b ²;B(E2, 2 ₁ ⁺ →4 ₁ ⁺ )=0.30(6)e ² b ². The results are discussed within the frame of the Interacting Boson Approximation.

Locally (-1,1) Rings

If M is a finitely-generated module over a commutative noetherian ring, then it is well-known that the ideal-theoretic assassin and the ideal-theoretic support of M satisfy the following two conditions: (CD supp(M) and ass(M) have the same minimal elements ; (C2) supp(M) has only finitely-many minimal elements. The purpose of this note is to consider a sufficient condition on a noncommutative ring, generalizing the commutative case, for analogous results to hold for the torsion-theoretic assassin and the torsion-theore-tic support of suitable left R-modules M. Since the order in the lattice of torsion theories over the category R-mod of left R-modules is the reverse of the order in the lattice of left ideals of R, we would expect to substitute “maximal” for “minimal” in the above conditions. Also, noetherianness should be replaced by its torsion-theoretic counterpart, semi-noetherianness.     

Measurement of nuclear deformation parameters from elastic and inelastic scattering of α and 3He ions on Te isotopes

Cross sections for the elastic scattering of ⁴He by ^{122, 124, 126, 128}Te and ³He by ¹²⁸Te and for inelastic transitions to the lowest 2⁺ states of Te isotopes were measured for several scattering angles at bombarding energies in the vicinity of the Coulomb barrier. The data were analyzed in the framework of the optical model and the DWBA from which optical potential and deformation parameters were extracted. A detailed study of the fit procedure is presented with emphasis on the significance of the extracted parameters and the correlations among them.
