100-TW femtosecond laser based on parametric amplification

In experiments on the parametrical amplification of femtosecond pulses in wide-aperture DKDP crystals, a power of more than 100 TW has been reached, which is much higher than the record level achieved in such lasers. The energy efficiency obtained for the parametric amplifier is equal to 27%. The energy of a 72-fs pulse is equal to 10 J.

Methods and algorithms for the solution of spectral problems of singular and regular pencils D(λ, μ)=A(μ)-λB(μ) of polynomial matrices A(μ) and B(μ) are suggested (the separation of continuous and discrete spectra, the computation of points of a discrete spectrum with the corresponding, Jordan chains, the computation of minimal indices and a minimal basis of polynomial solutions, the computation of the determinant of a regular pencil). Synthesis of lupane triterpenoids with triphenylphosphonium substituents and studies of their antitumor activity

New derivatives of lupane triterpenoids, viz., 20,29-dihydrobetulinic and 3-epi-20,29-dihydrobetulinic acid derivatives containing triphenylphosphonium fragments as substituents were synthesized. These compound considerably exceed betulinic acid in antitumor activity.

Growing of Optical Crystals Using a Propagating Temperature Field Technique

Given hereby are the results of mathematical modelling of thermal conditions for the method of travelling temperature field (“travelling wave”). All the estimates have been made for the process of leucosapphire crystallization. Demonstrated are the advantages of the above method as against the horizontally directed crystallization on account of shifting the container.     

Thermally induced birefringence in Nd:YAG ceramics

Analytical expressions for eigenpolarizations and phase delays in grains of thermally loaded Nd:YAG ceramic rods have been derived. It is shown that the depolarization of radiation in polycrystalline ceramics results in beam modulation with a characteristic size of the order of the ceramic grain size. It is reasonable to increase the ratio of rod length to grain length both to diminish this modulation depth and to compensate for birefringence by use of known techniques.     

Solving the eigenvalue problem for sparse matrices

A modification of the Danilewski method is presented, permitting the solution of the eigenvalue problem for a constant sparse matrix of large order to be reduced to the solution of the same problem for a polynomial matrix of lower order. Certain solution algorithms are proposed for a partial eigenvalue problem for the polynomial matrix.
