A major goal of current X-ray laser research is the achievement of gain in the 23.3-43.7 Å wavelength region, known as the `water window'. Silicon is the lowest atomic number element for which all the heliumlike 3-2 transitions lie in this region. The authors examine the fundamental kinetics of recombination lasing in this species, and conclude that the Si XIII 1s3d1D 2-1s2p1P1 line at 39.1 Å is an attractive candidate for recombination-pumped lasing. Attainment of gain in this line is somewhat more energetically favorable than for the hydrogenic Al XIII 3-2 transitions, but radiative trapping may be somewhat more troublesome than for H-like Al  相似文献

Electrospray mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry was used to investigate the gas‐phase properties of protonated expanded porphyrins, in order to correlate those with their structure and conformation. We have selected five expanded meso‐pentafluorophenyl porphyrins, respectively, a pair of oxidized/reduced fused pentaphyrins (22 and 24 π electrons), a pair of oxidized/reduced regular hexaphyrins (26 and 28 π electrons) and a regular doubly N‐fused hexaphyrin (28 π electrons). The gas‐phase behavior of the protonated species of oxidized and reduced expanded porphyrins is different. The oxidized species (aromatic Hückel systems) fragment more extensively, mainly by the loss of two HF molecules. The reduced species (Möbius aromatic or Möbius‐like aromatic systems) fragment less than their oxidized counterparts because of their increased flexibility. The protonated regular doubly fused hexaphyrin (non‐aromatic Hückel system) shows the least fragmentation even at higher collision energies. In general, cyclization through losses of HF molecules decreases from the aromatic Hückel systems to Möbius aromatic or Möbius‐like aromatic systems to non‐aromatic Hückel systems and is related to an increase in conformational distortion. Calculations are presented for the rates of radiative energy loss from tokamak plasmas arising from radiation processes involving collisions between electrons and multiply-charged Fe impurity ions. The distribution of ionization states is determined from the steady-state corona model. The inclusion of dielectronic recombination raises the temperature at which each ion has its maximum equilibrium abundance. For certain nonhydrogenic ions, the dielectronic recombination rates obtained from previous calculations are found to be overestimated due to the neglect of autoionization into an excited state of the recombining ion. Electron impact excitation of resonance line radiation in the far ultraviolet and X-ray regions is the dominant radiative cooling mechanism at temperatures where ions with bound electrons are abundant. However, the radiation emitted during dielectronic recombination can be more important than direct recombination radiation and bremsstrahlung.  相似文献
