The feasibility of producing titanium metal from titanium tetrachloride in a thermal plasma under equilibrium and adiabatic expansion conditions has been theoretically investigated. Free energy minimization and adiabatic expansion calculations to simulate a nozzle expansion were used to study the practicality of production. The crucial requirements for the production of titanium powder from TiCl4 and H2 appear to be rapid quenching of the plasma gas at high temperature (e.g., 3700 K) and appropriate reactant concentrations. Quenching of tire plasma gas and production of titanium powder can be achieved by adiabatic expansion through a nozzle. Preliminary experimental data indicate that titanium powder of approximately 5 nm in size can be produced in an argon plasma rising a nozzle expansion approach.  相似文献

Ca2+, "a signal of life and death", controls numerous cellular processes through interactions with proteins. An effective approach to understanding the role of Ca2+ is the design of a Ca2+-binding protein with predicted structural and functional properties. To design de novo Ca2+-binding sites in proteins is challenging due to the high coordination numbers and the incorporation of charged ligand residues, in addition to Ca2+-induced conformational change. Here, we demonstrate the successful design of a Ca2+-binding site in the non-Ca2+-binding cell adhesion protein CD2. This designed protein, Ca.CD2, exhibits selectivity for Ca2+ versus other di- and monovalent cations. In addition, La3+ (Kd 5.0 microM) and Tb3+ (Kd 6.6 microM) bind to the designed protein somewhat more tightly than does Ca2+ (Kd 1.4 mM). More interestingly, Ca.CD2 retains the native ability to associate with the natural target molecule. The solution structure reveals that Ca.CD2 binds Ca2+ at the intended site with the designed arrangement, which validates our general strategy for designing de novo Ca2+-binding proteins. The structural information also provides a close view of structural determinants that are necessary for a functional protein to accommodate the metal-binding site. This first success in designing Ca2+-binding proteins with desired structural and functional properties opens a new avenue in unveiling key determinants to Ca2+ binding, the mechanism of Ca2+ signaling, and Ca2+-dependent cell adhesion, while avoiding the complexities of the global conformational changes and cooperativity in natural Ca2+-binding proteins. It also represents a major achievement toward designing functional proteins controlled by Ca2+ binding.  相似文献

The direct benzylation of indole 2-boronic acid can be efficiently achieved using trans-PdBr(N-Succ)(PPh3)2, alleviating the need for strong bases or toxic organotin reagents. Under these reaction conditions substituted indole-2-boronic acids and substituted benzyl bromides are cross-coupled to afford aryl(indolo)methanes in good yield.  相似文献

Comprehensive proteomic studies that employ MS directed peptide sequencing are limited by optimal peptide separation and MS and tandem MS data acquisition routines. To identify the optimal parameters for data acquisition, we developed a system that models the automatic function switching behavior of a mass spectrometer using an MS-only dataset. Simulations were conducted to characterize the number and the quality of simulated fragmentation as a function of the data acquisition routines and used to construct operating curves defining tandem mass spectra quality and the number of peptides fragmented. Results demonstrated that one could optimize for quality or quantity, with the number of peptides fragmented decreasing as quality increased. The predicted optimal operating curve indicated that significant improvements can be realized by selecting the appropriate data acquisition parameters. The simulation results were confirmed experimentally by testing 10 LC MS/MS data acquisition parameter sets on an LC-Q-TOF-MS. Database matching of the experimental fragmentation returned peptide scores consistent with the predictions of the model. The results of the simulations of mass spectrometer data acquisition routines reveal an inverse relationship between the quality and the quantity of peptide identifications and predict an optimal operating curve that can be used to select an optimal data acquisition parameter for a given (or any) sample.  相似文献

The application of pressure allows systematic tuning of the charge density of a material cleanly, that is, without changes to the chemical composition via dopants, and exploratory high‐pressure experiments can inform the design of bulk syntheses of materials that benefit from their properties under compression. The electronic and structural response of semiconducting tin nitride Sn3N4 under compression is now reported. A continuous opening of the optical band gap was observed from 1.3 eV to 3.0 eV over a range of 100 GPa, a 540 nm blue‐shift spanning the entire visible spectrum. The pressure‐mediated band gap opening is general to this material across numerous high‐density polymorphs, implicating the predominant ionic bonding in the material as the cause. The rate of decompression to ambient conditions permits access to recoverable metastable states with varying band gaps energies, opening the possibility of pressure‐tuneable electronic properties for future applications.  相似文献
