Surface tension and equilibrium shape of crystals in a wide range of angles

We have found the angular dependence of the surface tension using simplified models including short-range interaction as well as long-range interaction. The shape of a rounded surface is found in total range of angles as well as sizes of rectilinear (smooth) faces depending on parameters of a model and the temperature. Some dimensionless ratios have occurred to be universal.     

Spin dependence of the shape of even-even nuclei within the Davydov-Chaban model

Within a model of a nonaxial even-even nucleus soft in β vibrations, the shape parameters of the ¹⁵⁴Gd, ^156,158,160Dy, ^164,168Er, ¹⁶⁸Yb, ¹⁷⁶Hf, and ¹⁸⁰W nuclei are calculated in the quadrupole approximation as functions of the excited-state spin.

Analysis of protein-protein interactions in a complex environment: capture of an analyte-receptor complex with standard additions of the receptor (CARSAR) approach

Traditional methods of analytical chemistry to detect an interaction between certain proteins in multicomponent mixtures (e.g. cell lysates, etc.) have limitations. This is due to difficulties in identification of a specific signal of an analyte (a molecule to be detected) against the background. In the present work, we propose the new analytical protocol for transducer-based sensors with a restricted sensitive area. It uses a combination of analyte-receptor complex precipitation with serial additions of the receptor (CARSAR). To test this new analytical strategy, we used a surface plasmon resonance technique to confirm an interaction between the Epstein-Barr virus-encoded nuclear antigen 6 and the mitochondrial ribosomal protein MRPS18-2.     

Divergent Coulomb screening in two-dimensional electron gas driven by Microwaves

A two-dimensional electron gas in a perpendicular magnetic field driven by a microwave ac field is studied. The magneto-conductivity and the diffusion constant are calculated in the microscopic model. In the driven state, the Einstein relation is violated. Instability of the Coulomb screening and divergence of the effective donor electrostatic field due to negative Ryzhii currents is predicted. This phenomenon results in the zero-resistance states observed experimentally. The text was submitted by the author in English.     

Evaluation of Digital Image Recognition Methods for Mass Spectrometry Imaging Data Analysis

Analyzing mass spectrometry imaging data can be laborious and time consuming, and as the size and complexity of datasets grow, so does the need for robust automated processing methods. We here present a method for comprehensive, semi-targeted discovery of molecular distributions of interest from mass spectrometry imaging data, using widely available image similarity scoring algorithms to rank images by spatial correlation. A fast and powerful batch search method using a MATLAB implementation of structural similarity (SSIM) index scoring with a pre-selected reference distribution is demonstrated for two sample imaging datasets, a plant metabolite study using Artemisia annua leaf, and a drug distribution study using maraviroc-dosed macaque tissue.

SPR-based immunocapture approach to creating an interfacial sensing architecture: mapping of the MRS18-2 binding site on retinoblastoma protein

Biosensor technologies based on optical readout are widely used in protein–protein interaction studies. Here we describe a fast and simple approach to the creation of oriented interfacial architectures for surface plasmon resonance (SPR) transducers, based on conventional biochemical procedures and custom reagents. The proposed protocol permits the oriented affinity-capture of GST fusion proteins by a specific antibody which is bound to protein A, which in turn has been immobilized on the transducer surface (after the surface has been modified by guanidine thiocyanate). The applicability of the method was demonstrated by studying the interaction between retinoblastoma tumor suppressor protein (pRb) and MRS18-2 proteins. The formation of the pRb–MRS18-2 protein complex was examined and the pRb binding site (A-box–spacer–B-box) was mapped. We have also shown that MRS18-2, which was detected as the Epstein–Barr virus-encoded EBNA-6 binding partner using the yeast two-hybrid system, binds to pRb in GST pull-down assays.
