Preparative method of obtaining L- and D-2-hydroxy-3-methylbutyric acids

Summary A preparative method was developed for obtaining L-and D-2-hydroxy-3-methylbutyric acids by the separation of racemic 2-hydroxy-3-methylbutyric acid with the aid of D-and L-threo-2-amino-1-p-nitrophenyl-1,3-propanediols.     

Solid-state mechanochemical synthesis of tris(4-imino-2-pentanonato)chromium,Cr[CH3C(NH)CHC(O)CH3]3

Investigation of heterocyclic quinones XVII. Oxidative amination of 6-hydroxyquinazoline

Representatives of a new class of heterocyclic quinones — quinazoline-5,6-quinones — were obtained by the oxidative animation of 6-hydroxyquinazoline, 2-phenyl-6-hydroxyquinazoline, and 4-piperidino-6-hydroxyquinazoline. 6-Hydroxyquinazolines that are not substituted in the 2 position are animated in this position during oxidation. Diffusion processes in surface thermal catalysis and improvement of the stability of combustible gas sensors

We briefly describe the development of thermocatalytic sensors. Problems associated with instability of sensors during their operation are outlined. We propose that for improving stability, the access of the mixture being analyzed to the reaction chamber must be limited so that the condition in which the sensor output is by many times larger than the diffusion flux of the combustible gas through the calibrated orifice is observed. Diffusion processes are analyzed to work out recommendations for improving the measurement stability by several times.     

Synthesis and structure of 2,2′-diaminodiphenylditelluride bis-imines

Bis-imines of 2,2′-diaminodiphenylditelluride and 2-tosylamino (9a) and 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde (9b) were prepared and studied by X-ray diffraction, heteronuclear (¹H, ¹³C, ¹⁵N, and ¹²⁵Te) magnetic resonance, and quantum chemical calculations (Pbe1pbe/DGDZVP). According to the X-ray diffraction data, compound 9b in the crystal phase has nonsymmetrical structure: one of the tellurium atoms forms hypervalent bonding with the adjacent oxygen atom, while the second one is not involved in such interaction. The NMR study showed the symmetric molecular structure of imines 9a,b in DMSO-d₆ with the tellurium atoms interacting hypervalently with the C=N nitrogen atoms.     

An oscillatory system with a magnetic-fluid viscoinertial element

Results of measuring the damping factor of an oscillatory system the viscoinertial element of which is represented by a magnetic fluid filling a U-shaped glass tube are considered. The role of elasticity is played by an air-filled cavity that is formed in one of the tube legs under the piezoelectric plate attached to its end and serving for oscillation reception. A method of measuring the oscillation damping factor is proposed, and the results of these measurements are used to determine the shear viscosity of magnetic fluid samples as a function of magnetic field strength.     

Kinetics of ozone oxidation of oriented polypropylene and high-density polyethylene

The interrelation between the rate of ozone oxidation of oriented samples of PP and HDPE and the structural processes in the region of relaxation transitions at 50–70°C in PP and 40–60°C in HDPE was found. Within the studied temperature range, the annealing results in significant structural changes accompanied by the emergence of breaks in the temperature dependence of the rate of ozone oxidation. The chemical and temperature preannealing decreases the oxidation rate. After the chemical annealing at 96°C, the Arrhenius temperature dependence of the oxidation rate was observed.
