A new class of polymeric thermometers with a memory function is reported that is based on the supramolecular host–guest interactions of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) with side‐chain naphthalene guest moieties and the tetracationic macrocycle cyclobis(paraquat‐p‐phenylene) (CBPQT4+) as the host. This supramolecular thermometer exhibits a memory function for the thermal history of the solution, which arises from the large hysteresis of the thermoresponsive LCST phase transition (LCST=lower critical solution temperature). This hysteresis is based on the formation of a metastable soluble state that consists of the PNIPAM–CBPQT4+ host–guest complex. When heated above the transition temperature, the polymer collapses, and the host–guest interactions are disrupted, making the polymer more hydrophobic and less soluble in water. Aside from providing fundamental insights into the kinetic control of supramolecular assemblies, the developed thermometer with a memory function might find use in applications spanning the physical and biological sciences.  相似文献

Proofs are given of two theorems of Berezin and Karpelevič, which as far as we know never have been proved correctly. By using eigenfunctions of the Laplace-Beltrami operator it is shown that the spherical functions on a complex Grassmann manifold are given by a determinant of certain hypergeometric functions. By application of this result, it is proved that a certain system of operators, fow which explicit expressions are given, generates the algebra of radial parts of invariant differential operators.  相似文献

During the last six years several incidents have occurred with dioxins in feed, stressing the need for rapid screening methods for these compounds. The most recent incident was the contamination of bakery waste used for animal feed due to the use of waste wood for drying of the material. In addition to Germany, the material was also shipped to the Netherlands. Levels up to 12 ng TEQ/kg have been detected, being about 15 times over the current limit of 0.75 ng TEQ/kg. In the Netherlands a combined strategy of screening with the CALUX-bioassay and the HRGC/HRMS confirmatory method was used to rapidly control the incident. Pigs were contaminated by the incident but only to a very limited extent. Despite the rather low limits for pig meat, the CALUX bioassay showed excellent performance, once again confirming the value of this assay.  相似文献

This article describes the synthesis and characterization of a variety of new poly(2‐oxazoline)s. With regard to functional polymers, 2‐oxazolines represent an interesting class of monomers because of the easy variation of the substituent in 2‐position. Starting from the corresponding nitriles, different 2‐oxazolines were obtained containing a diverse set of 2‐substituents, including thioether bonds ( M11 ), trifluoromethyl groups ( M8 , M10 ), and alkyl‐ or aryl groups ( M1 – M7 ). The subsequent polymerization of the majority of these monomers proceeded in a living manner, which was demonstrated by linear first‐order kinetics, a linear increase of molar mass with conversion, and relatively narrow molar mass distributions. In addition, selected thermal and surface properties of the polymers were studied utilizing DSC and contact‐angle measurements to determine the effects of different 2‐substituents on the macroscopic properties. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The solution properties of random and block copolymers based on 2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazoline (EtOx) and 2‐nonyl‐2‐oxazoline (NonOx) were investigated in binary solvent mixtures ranging from pure water to pure ethanol. The solubility phase diagrams for the random and block copolymers revealed solubility (after heating), insolubility, dispersions, micellization as well as lower critical solution temperature (LCST) and upper critical solution temperature behavior. The random and block copolymers containing over 60 mol % pNonOx were found to be solubilized in ethanol upon heating, whereas the dissolution temperature of the block copolymers was found to be much higher than for the random copolymers due to the higher extent of crystallinity. Furthermore, the block copolymer containing 10 mol % pNonOx exhibited a LCST in aqueous solution at 68.7 °C, whereas the LCST for the random copolymer was found to be only 20.8 °C based on the formation of hydrophobic microdomains in the block copolymer. The random copolymer displayed a small increase in LCST up to a solvent mixture of 9 wt % EtOH, whereas further increase of ethanol led to a decrease in LCST, which is probably due to the “water‐breaking” effect causing an increased attraction between ethanol and the hydrophobic part of the copolymer. In addition, the EtOx‐NonOx block copolymers revealed the formation of micelles and dynamic light scattering demonstrated that the micellar size is increasing with increasing the ethanol content due to the enhanced solubility of EtOx. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The monomer concentration for the cationic ring‐opening polymerization of 2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazoline in N,N‐dimethylacetamide was optimized utilizing high‐throughput experimentation methods. Detailed 1H‐NMR spectroscopic investigations were performed to understand the mechanistic aspects of the observed concentration effects. Finally, the improved polymerization concentration was applied for the synthesis of higher molecular weight (> 10,000 Da) poly(2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazoline)s. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
