Photoinitiators with functional groups. VII. Covalently bonded camphorquinone—amines

Camphorquinone (CQ), a widely used photoinitiator (PI) in dental applications, was covalently bonded to aromatic amines to enhance the rate of electron and proton transfer effect due to the close vicinity of the diketone and the amine group. 10‐bromocamphorquinone and 10‐bromomethylcamphorquinone were selected as suitable precursors for esterification with the carboxyl group containing aromatic amines based on 4‐dimethylaminobenzoic acid. Properties of the new photoinitiating systems were investigated by UV spectroscopy and differential scanning photocalorimetry in lauryl acrylate. Compared to physical mixtures, in all cases similar or even better performance was obtained. Surprisingly, 10‐acetyl derivatives 7 – 9 and 18 especially, were found to be highly reactive. Compared to CQ/ethyl 4‐dimethylaminobenzoate, the rate of photopolymerization was increased by a factor of up to 2. Intramolecular reaction was confirmed by photo‐differential scanning calorimetry experiments with varying PI concentrations. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The monomial ideal of a finite meet-semilattice

Squarefree monomial ideals arising from finite meet-semilattices and their free resolutions are studied. For the squarefree monomial ideals corresponding to poset ideals in a distributive lattice, the Alexander dual is computed.

     

A note on a theorem of Raubenheimer and Rode

We prove the converse of Raubenheimer and Rode's Banach algebra version of the Perron-Frobenius Theorem.

     

New olefinic functionalized disilanes. Synthesis and NMR spectroscopical investigations

The new olefinic substituted aminodisilanes, which are obtained from the reaction of organometallic reagents with aminochlorodisilanes, are converted into the chlorodisilanes by equilibration reactions or treatment with HCI. The resulting olefinic functionalized disilanes are identified by means of ²⁹Si, ¹³C, ¹H NMR and GC MS measurements.     

Multilayers as defect barriers

A multilayer structure consisting of undoped GaAs and AlAs layers was incorporated into a buffer layer on GaAs substrates. This reduces the spreading of impurities from the substrate (e.g. tellurium) into layers deposited on top of the multilayer system as observed by SIMS and C/V profiling. Incorporation coefficients for tellurium in GaAs, AlAs and multilayers were calculated.     

Crystallization of Arthrobacter sp. strain 1C N-(1-D-carboxyethyl)-L-norvaline dehydrogenase and its complex with NAD+

The novel NAD+-linked opine dehydrogenase from a soil isolate Arthrobacter sp. strain 1C belongs to an enzyme superfamily whose members exhibit quite diverse substrate specificites. Crystals of this opine dehydrogenase, obtained in the presence or absence of co-factor and substrates, have been shown to diffract to beyond 1.8 ? resolution. X-ray precession photographs have established that the crystals belong to space group P21212, with cell parameters a = 104.9, b = 80.0, c = 45.5 ? and a single subunit in the asymmetric unit. The elucidation of the three-dimensional structure of this enzyme will provide a structural framework for this novel class of dehydrogenases to enable a comparison to be made with other enzyme families and also as the basis for mutagenesis experiments directed towards the production of natural and synthetic opine-type compounds containing two chiral centres.     

Cotangent functors of curve singularities

Let R be a complete analytic k-algebra of dimension one, where k is a field of characteristic 0. For a Noetherian normalization , the cotangent functors T_i(R/A, R) are of finite length. It is shown that if R is smoothable, then for all j, where denotes the complementary module. This result is used to give estimates for the length of the torsion of the module of differentials _R/k.     

The magnetic hyperfine field of bromine in iron by NMR/ON

Nuclear magnetic resonance of⁸²Br oriented at low temperature in iron has been observed with a sample prepared by ion implantation atT<0.2 K. The asymmetric resonance signal can be decomposed in a broad background signal and a narrow line of FWHM=1.8 (4) MHz which can be attributed to⁸²Br in undisturbed substitutional sites of Fe. From the center frequency of this narrow line (B _ext=0)=201.86(13) MHz we derive the magnetic hyperfine field asB _hf(BrFe)=81.38(6) T. This value is considerably larger than the result of theoretical calculations.
