The analytical performance of three uncoated electrographite tubes, three pyro-coated electrographite tubes, one tantalum carbide (TaC) coated electrographite tube, and three totally pyrolytic graphite (TPG) tubes has been evaluated and compared. A test programme was devised to determine the useful operational lifetime of each tube, and assess the influence of tube age on the sensitivity of lead, manganese and vanadium measurements by atomic absorption spectrometry. The TPG tubes were found to be more durable than the other types studied, but the lifetime advantage depended on the thickness of the pyrolytic graphite. The best TPG tube, of 720 μm wall-thickness, lasted 2.5 times longer than the pyro-coated tubes, and 5 times longer than the uncoated electrographite tubes.The TPG tubes gave slightly poorer AAS sensitivity for lead, equivalent sensitivity for manganese, and 4 times better sensitivity for vanadium than the pyro-coated electrographite tubes. Also, with TPG, signal magnitude was more consistent throughout the lifetime of a tube. Most structural bioceramics are comprised of metallic oxides such as alumina and zirconia. They are generally considered to be completely bioinert, but a non-oxide ceramic, silicon nitride, achieves equivalent levels of mechanical reliability while being bioactive. Silicon nitride can not only stimulate cellular proliferation but it is also antipathogenic with demonstrated efficacy against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, fungi, and viruses. In this work, three physical vapor deposition coatings with different Si:N ratios (silicon-rich, stoichiometric, and nitrogen-rich) were deposited on mirror-polished silica glass substrates. The coatings were characterized by spectroscopic and microscopic techniques and tested in vitro against E. coli and KUSA-A1 mesenchymal cells. Results showed that nitrogen-enriched SixNy has a strong antibacterial effect against E. coli and contributes to cellular proliferation while silicon-enriched SixNy stimulates the production of bone tissue, with higher indexes for mineralization and quality. These results suggest that SixNy's biological properties can be optimized for specific applications by carefully tuning its surface chemistry. 相似文献

An experimental investigation of the elastoplastic behavior of certain torsionless grid frameworks is presented. The purpose of the test program was to determine the significance of the stiffness criterion in the evaluation of collapse loads of interconnected beam systems. The load-deflection relationships in the various members, the sequence of hinges and moment redistribution are studied. A methodology to manage manufacturing lead times is currently being developed by the authors. The system is specifically designed to address the needs of small- to medium-sized make-to-order companies. It involves a hierarchical production planning system in which integration between the production and marketing functions is facilitated. Considerations of capacity are included at both of the decision levels addressed—the customer enquiry stage and the job release stage. This paper describes the job release stage, showing how it is linked with the higher-level stage by controlling a hierarchy of backlog lengths. At the job release stage the released backlog length for each work centre is maintained between predetermined minimum and maximum levels. It is shown that shop floor throughput times—an important part of manufacturing lead times—can be controlled by controlling released backlog lengths. The releasing mechanism is described and it is argued that there can be many benefits of job release—including reduced shop congestion, lower work-in-progress and lower costs. 相似文献
