The surface tension of aqueous polymer solutions of polyacrylamide (PAM), polyacrylic acid (PAA), carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), and hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) was studied over a range of polymer concentrations by using the maximum bubble pressure method at temperatures ranging from 20 to 65°C. The surface tension of water was also measured by the maximum bubble pressure method as well as by the DuNoüy ring method over the same temperature range. The experimental water data are in excellent agreement with the well-established tabulated data in the literature.

For a fixed concentration, all of the polymer solutions exhibited a decrease in surface tension with increasing temperature level. When compared with water at a fixed temperature level, the PAM and CMC solutions showed slightly higher surface tension values, whereas the PAA solutions yielded values equal to those found for water. In the case of the HEC solutions, the measured surface tensions decreased with concentration at a fixed temperature level and were lower than the values found for water. For a concentration of 2000 wppm the surface tension values for the hydroxyethyl cellulose were of the order of 10% lower than those for water at a fixed temperature level.

A comparison of the new measurements with the relatively limited previously published studies showed good agreement.  相似文献

A new relation for the density parameter Ω is derived as a function of expansion velocity υ based on Carmeli's cosmology. This density function is used in the luminosity distance relation D L. A heretofore neglected source luminosity correction factor (1 − (υ/c)2)−1/2 is now included in D L. These relations are used to fit type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) data, giving consistent, well-behaved fits over a broad range of redshift 0.1 < z < 2. The best fit to the data for the local density parameter is Ωm = 0.0401 ± 0.0199. Because Ωm is within the baryonic budget there is no need for any dark matter to account for the SNe Ia redshift luminosity data. From this local density it is determined that the redshift where the universe expansion transitions from deceleration to acceleration is z t = 1.095+0.264 −0.155. Because the fitted data covers the range of the predicted transition redshift z t, there is no need for any dark energy to account for the expansion rate transition. We conclude that the expansion is now accelerating and that the transition from a closed to an open universe occurred about 8.54 Gyr ago.  相似文献

The photophysics of a covalently linked perylenediimide–diketopyrrolopyrrole–perylenediimide acceptor–donor–acceptor molecule (PDI–DPP–PDI, 1) were investigated and found to be markedly different in solution versus in unannealed and solvent annealed films. Photoexcitation of 1 in toluene results in quantitative charge separation in τ = 3.1 ± 0.2 ps, with charge recombination in τ = 340 ± 10 ps, while in unannealed/disordered films of 1, charge separation occurs in τ < 250 fs, while charge recombination displays a multiexponential decay in ∼6 ns. The absence of long-lived, charge separation in the disordered film suggests that few free charge carriers are generated. In contrast, upon CH2Cl2 vapor annealing films of 1, grazing-incidence X-ray scattering shows that the molecules form a more ordered structure. Photoexcitation of the ordered films results in initial formation of a spin-correlated radical ion pair (electron–hole pair) as indicated by magnetic field effects on the formation of free charge carriers which live for ∼4 μs. This result has significant implications for the design of organic solar cells based on covalent donor–acceptor systems and shows that long-lived, charge-separated states can be achieved by controlling intramolecular charge separation dynamics in well-ordered systems.  相似文献

Equations of motion, in cylindrical co-ordinates, for the observed rotation of gases within the gravitational potential of spiral galaxies have been derived from Carmeli's Cosmological General Relativity theory. A Tully-Fisher type relation results and rotation curves are reproduced without the need for non-baryonic halo dark matter. Two acceleration regimes are discovered that are separated by a critical acceleration m s−2. For accelerations larger than the critical value the Newtonian force law applies, but for accelerations less than the critical value the Carmelian regime applies. In the Newtonian regime the accelerations fall off as r −2, but in the Carmelian regime the accelerations fall off as r −1. This is new physics but is exactly what is suggested by Milgrom's phenomenological MOND theory.  相似文献

An attempt to use the falling-ball experiment to measure the non-Newtonian viscosity in the intermediate shear rate range was successfully accomplished by combining the direct experimental observations with a simple analytical model for the average shear and shear rate at the surface of a sphere. The viscosity data of aqueous solutions of Carbopol-960, carboxymethyl cellulose, polyethylene oxide and polyacrylamide obtained from the falling-ball viscometer gave good agreement with those from other viscometers, confirming the general applicability of the analytical approach.In the experiments with the highly viscoelastic polyacrylamide solutions the terminal velocity was observed to be dependent on the time interval between the dropping of successive balls. This time-dependent phenomenon was used to determine characteristic diffusion times of the concentrated solutions of polyacrylamide. These values were, in turn, compared with characteristics relaxation times determined by the Powell-Eyring model.The experimental program revealed that the falling-ball viscometer has very limited utility for the measurement of the steady shear viscosity of aqueous polymer solutions.  相似文献

This paper corrects the explanation given by Oliveira and Hartnett, Found. Phys. Lett. 19(6), 519–535, 2006 for the luminosity distance in Cosmological General Relativity. The mathematical expression for the luminosity distance used in that paper is correct but the explanation in Eqs. (22) and (23) is flawed. Expressions for the angular size and surface brightness of sources are also derived. Finally some comment is made about the calculations of χ2 values in that paper compared with an earlier paper, Found. Phys. 36(6), 839–861, 2006.  相似文献

The properties of the twin-stripe injection laser are examined as functions of two parameters governing diffusion and waveguiding effects in the device. The carrier diffusion rate, as determined by the ambipolar diffusion coefficient,D, is shown to influence the current range over which lasing action is maintained. The curvature of the nonlinear portion of the light-current characteristic of the device is also changed asD is altered. It is found that the relative strengths of the guiding mechanisms acting upon the optical field further influence the characteristics of the structure.  相似文献
