Background  

Growth hormone (GH) plays an incompletely understood role in the development of the central nervous system (CNS). In this study, we use transgenic mice expressing a growth hormone antagonist (GHA) to explore the role of GH in regulating postnatal brain, spinal cord and body growth into adulthood. The GHA transgene encodes a protein that inhibits the binding of GH to its receptor, specifically antagonizing the trophic effects of endogenous GH.  相似文献

We explore and demonstrate quantum confinement without walls in metal-clad InAs quantum wells. We observed intersubband absorption from confined states in InAs clad with Al, Sb, Nb, W, Pt, Ag, Au, Ti or In. We found that using this novel method, we can explore the physics and chemistry at the metal–semiconductor interface; reflection, autoionization, well-width fluctuation and interface reaction.  相似文献

Hybrid organic/inorganic devices may find applications as sensors and in futuristic molecular-electronic devices. Here, we demonstrate molecular control of vertical transport in semiconductor superlattices in strong magnetic fields by adsorption of organic molecules onto the sidewalls of a GaAs/AlGaAs device. The molecules have identical attachment groups functionalized by end groups with different electronegativities. For magnetic fields in quantized Hall states, we find that the adsorbate substantially modifies the network of edge states that carries the electrical current. The data indicate that molecules with appropriately chosen end groups can enhance or decrease the vertical conductivity of the edge state system.  相似文献

We use tandem HPLC-mass spectrometry with in-line spectroscopy to identify silver atom numbers, N(Ag), of 10 to 21 in visible- to infrared-emitting Ag:DNA complexes stabilized by oligonucleotide monomers and dimers. Qualitatively different absorbance spectra from bare, same-N(Ag) silver clusters point to silver-base interactions as the origin for the color of Ag:DNAs.  相似文献

Fusion cross-sections for the 7Li + 12C reaction have been measured at energies above the Coulomb barrier by the direct detection of evaporation residues. The heavy evaporation residues with energies below 3 MeV could not be separated out from the α-particles in the spectrum and hence their contribution was estimated using statistical model calculations. The present work indicates that suppression of fusion cross-sections due to the breakup of 7Li may not be significant for 7Li + 12C reaction at energies around the barrier.  相似文献
