Continuum Approaches in the Mechanics of Curved Composites and Associated Problems for Structural Members

A review is made of studies on the mechanics of curved composites carried out using continuum approaches. The relevant theory, problem formulations, and solution methods are considered and some typical results on the influence of structural distortion on the mechanical behavior of composites are analyzed. Subjects for near-term studies are proposed     

On Publications on the Brittle Fracture Mechanics of Prestressed Materials

The paper analyzes new publications on the brittle fracture mechanics of prestressed materials. It is found out that new scientific results published in the International Journal of Solids and Structures in 2002 are a particular case of the results obtained at the Institute of Mechanics 20 years ago     

Practical and highly selective oxazolidinethione-based asymmetric acetate aldol reactions with aliphatic aldehydes

[reaction: see text] The utility of a valine-derived oxazolidinethione for auxiliary-based asymmetric acetate aldol reactions is reported. Titanium(IV) chloride, along with (-)-sparteine and N-methylpyrrolidinone, is employed for enolization. Subsequent aldol reaction with aliphatic aldehydes occurs with high diastereoselectivity (from 92:8 to 99:1 dr).     

A comparative investigation of the fatty acid compositions of the seeds of a number of lines of a genetic collection of Gossypium hirsutum

A comparative analysis has been made of the amounts of lipids and their fatty-acid compositions in the seeds of the lines of agenetic collection of cotton plants of the speciesGossypium hirsutum and their hybrids and the variety Tashkent-1. 高能核碰撞中带电多重数快度与能量和中心度的关系

用强子–弦级联模型JPCIAE及相应的Monte Carlo事例产生器研究相对论性核–核碰撞中带电粒子多重数的赝快度密度对能量和中心度的依赖关系.无需另调任何模型参数的条件下,此模型可以同时较好地描述相对论性pp实验数据及PHOBOS和PHENIX实验组的Au+Au实验数据.本文指出:因〈N_part〉并非严格定义的物理量,致使实验上和理论上确定〈N_part〉有一定任意性,从而使得每参加者核子对的带电粒子赝快度密度随着〈N_part〉的增加可能逐渐增大,也可能逐渐减小,因此用它来区分粒子产生机制是欠妥的.     

Effect of Liquid Viscosity on Dispersion of Quasi-Lamb Waves in an Elastic-Layer–Viscous-Liquid-Layer System

The dispersion curves are constructed and propagation of quasi-Lamb waves are studied for wide range of frequencies based on the Navier–Stokes three-dimensional linearized equations for a viscous liquid and linear equations of the classical theory of elasticity for an elastic layer. For a thick liquid layer, the effect of the viscosity of the liquid and the thickness of elastic and liquid layers on the phase velocities and attenuation coefficients of quasi-Lamb modes is analyzed. It is shown that in the case of a thick liquid layer for all modes, there are elastic layers of certain thickness with minimal effect of liquid viscosity on the phase velocities and attenuation coefficients of modes. It is also discovered that for some modes, there are both certain thicknesses and certain ranges of thickness where the effect of liquid viscosity on the phase velocities and attenuation coefficients of these modes is considerable. We ascertain that liquid viscosity promotes decrease of the penetration depth of the lowest quasi-Lamb mode into the liquid. The developed approach and the obtained results make it possible to ascertain for wave processes the limits of applicability of the model of ideal compressible fluid. Numerical results in the form of graphs are adduced and analyzed.     

Two-dimensional stability problem for two interacting short fibers in a composite: In-line arrangement

A solution is found to a plane problem for a composite material reinforced with two in-line fibers and subjected to longitudinal compression. The problem formulation is based on the piecewise-homogeneous model and the three-dimensional theory of stability. The dependence of the critical strain and buckling mode on the distance between the fibers is studied for various mechanical and geometrical characteristics of the composite components.Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika, Vol. 40, No. 9, pp. 65–74, September 2004.     

Exploration for Degradation of Λ Polarization Produced in Relativistic Nucleus Nucleus Collisions

The degradation of Λ transverse polarization produced in S+Pb central collisions at energy 200 GeV per nucleon has been studied in detail. The S+Pb central collision events have been generated using Monte-Carlo generator——LUCIAE at 200 GeV per nucleon. The various factors degrading Λ transverse polarization have been analysed quantitatively. The ratios of Λ′s produced from rescattering, secondary production and decays of Σ, Ξ hyperons to the total measurable Λ′s in experiment have been investigeted and the degradation effect of these Λ on the total polarization has been determined. The simulation and calculation show that above three factors decrease the Λ transverse polarization strongly, however, can not eliminate the polarization completely when the Λ′s are assumed to be produced from hadronic gas in the final state. To explan the experimental data of vanished Λ polarization, it probably needs to consider new mechanisms of Λ production, including a weak effect of QGP formation.
