 To describe the flows of fluids over a wide range of pressures, it is necessary to take into account the fact that the viscosity of the fluid depends on the pressure. That the viscosity depends on the pressure has been verified by numerous careful experiments. While the existence of solutions local-in-time to the equations governing the flows of such fluids are available for small, special data and rather unrealistic dependence of the viscosity on the pressure, no global existence results are in place. Our interest here is to establish the existence of weak solutions for spatially periodic three-dimensional flows that are global in time, for a large class of physically meaningful viscosity-pressure relationships. Results are presented on the operation and optimization of soliton Raman fibre-ring lasers using a c.w. mode-locked Nd-YAG laser at 1.32m as the source of 100 ps pump pulses. A waveguide in integrated optics is defined by its refractiveindex. The guide is assumed to be invariant in the propagationdirection while in the transverse direction it is supposed tobe a compact perturbation of an unbounded stratified medium.We are interested in the modes guided by this device, whichare waves with a transverse energy confined in a neighbourhoodof the perturbation. Our goal is to analyse the existence of such guided modes. Underthe assumptions of weak guidance the problem reduces to a two-dimensionaleigenvalue problem for a scalar field. The associated operatoris unbounded, selfadjoint, and bounded from below. Its spectrumconsists of the discrete spectrum corresponding to the guidedmodes and of the essential spectrum corresponding to the radiationmodes. We present existence results of guided modes and an asymptoticstudy at high frequencies, which shows that contrarily to thecase of optical fibers, the number of guided modes can remainbounded. The major tools are the min-max principle and comparisonof results between different eigenvalue problems. The originalityof the present study lies in the stratified character of theunbounded reference medium.  相似文献

This article reviews the current state-of-the-art of optical pulse compressors based on the optical fibre-grating pair. As this technique has become a standard laboratory procedure providing pulses with duration shorter than those directly generated from mode-locked lasers, we review the basic mechanism of the method, the role played by additional non-linear effects (such as stimulated Raman scattering), describe the current results, with emphasis to our own work, and point out the limitations of the technique.  相似文献

Background  

Opioid agonist drugs produce analgesia. However, long-term exposure to opioid agonists may lead to opioid dependence. The analgesic and addictive properties of opioid agonist drugs are mediated primarily via the mu-opioid receptor (MOR). Opioid agonists appear to alter neuronal morphology in key brain regions implicated in the development of opioid dependence. However, the precise role of the MOR in the development of these neuronal alterations remains elusive. We hypothesize that identifying and characterizing novel MOR interacting proteins (MORIPs) may help to elucidate the underlying mechanisms involved in the development of opioid dependence.  相似文献

The use of infrared laser-assisted fluorination to release oxygen from milligram quantities of silicates or other oxide mineral grains is a well-established technique. However, relatively few studies have reported the optimisation of this procedure for oxygen-17 isotope measurements. We describe here details of an analytical system using infrared (10 μm) laser-assisted fluorination, in conjunction with a dual inlet mass spectrometer of high resolving power ( approximately 250) to provide (17)O and (18)O oxygen isotope measurements from 0.5-2 mg of silicates or other oxide mineral grains. Respective precisions (1) of typically 0.08 and 0.04 per thousand are obtained for the complete analytical procedure. Departures from the mass-dependent oxygen isotope fractionation line are quantified by Delta(17)O; our precision (1) of such measurements on individual samples is shown to be +/-0.024 per thousand. In turn, this permits the offset between parallel, mass-dependent fractionation lines to be characterised to substantially greater precision than has been possible hitherto. Application of this system to investigate the (17)O versus (18)O relationship for numerous terrestrial whole-rock and mineral samples, of diverse geological origins and age, indicates that the complete data set may be described by a single, mass-dependent fractionation line of slope 0.5244+/- 0.00038 (standard error). Upconversion luminescence in erbium-doped PbGeO3-PbF2-CdF2-based vitroceramic under 1540 nm infrared excitation is investigated. Luminescence signals around 410, 525, 550, 660 and 850 nm were generated and attributed to the 2H9/2, 2H11/2, 4S3/2 and 4F9/2 transitions to the 4I15/2 ground-state, and 4S3/2-4I13/2, respectively. The erbium ions excited-state emitting levels were populated through a combination of stepwise ground-state absorption, phonon-assisted excited-state absorption and cross-relaxation processes. The results also disclosed that all emission signals obtained with vitroceramic samples presented intensities three times higher when compared to the precursor glass samples. In addition, the red emission signal at 660 nm for 1540 nm pumping exhibited an expressively high intensity when compared to the green signal.  相似文献

We examine a local realist bound in the case of a one-atom micromaser. It is shown that such a bound is violated using a simplified treatment of the micromaser. We consider the effect of dissipation in a proposed experiment with the real micromaser. It is seen that the magnitude of violation of a Bell-type inequality depends significantly on the cavity parameters.  相似文献

Rare-earth doped oxyfluoride 75SiO2:25PbF2 nano-structured phosphors for white-light-emitting diodes were synthesized by thermal treatment of precursor sol–gel derived glasses. Room temperature luminescence features of Eu3+, Sm3+, Tb3+, Eu3+/Tb3+, and Sm3+/Tb3+ ions incorporated into low-phonon-energy PbF2 nanocrystals dispersed in the aluminosilicate glass matrix and excited with UV light emitting diode were investigated. The luminescence spectra exhibited strong emission signals in the red (600, 610, 625, and 646 nm), green (548 and 560 nm), and blue (485 nm) wavelength regions. White-light emission was observed in Sm/Tb and Eu/Tb double-doped activated phosphors employing UV-LED excitation at 395 nm. The dependence of the luminescence emission intensities upon annealing temperature and rare-earth concentration was also examined. The results indicated that there exist optimum annealing temperature and activator ion concentration in order to obtain intense visible emission light with high color rendering index. The study suggests that the nanocomposite phosphor based upon 75SiO2:25PbF2 host herein reported is a promising contender for white-light LED applications.  相似文献

Energy-transfer excited upconversion luminescence in Ho3+/Yb3+- and Tb3+/Yb3+-codoped PbGeO3–PbF2–CdF2 glass and glass–ceramic under infrared excitation is investigated. In Ho3+/Yb3+-codoped samples, green (545 nm), red (652 nm), and near-infrared (754 nm) upconversion emission corresponding to the 5S2(5F4)  5I8, 5F5  5I8, and 5S2(5F4)  5I7 transitions, respectively, was observed. Blue (490 nm) emission assigned to the 5F2,3  5I8 transition was also detected. In the Tb3+/Yb3+-codoped system, bright UV–visible emission around 384, 415, 438, 473–490, 545, 587, and 623 nm, identified as due to the 5D3(5G6)  7FJ(J = 6, 5, 4) and 5D4  7FJ(J = 6, 5, 4, 3) transitions, was measured. The comparison of the upconversion process in glass ceramic and its glassy precursor revealed that the former samples present much higher upconversion efficiencies. The dependence of the upconversion emission upon pump power, and doping contents was also examined. The results indicated that successive energy-transfer between ytterbium and holmium ions and cooperative energy-transfer between ytterbium and terbium ions followed by excited-state absorption are the dominant upconversion excitation mechanisms herein involved. The viability of using the samples for three-dimensional solid-state color displays is also discussed.  相似文献
