Elastic and inelastic neutron-scattering studies on the system Ce(Cu1?xNix)2Ge2 are reported. These measurements are complemented by measurements of the magnetic susceptibility, high-field magnetization, heat capacity, thermal expansion, electrical resistivity and thermopower. The results reveal an interesting T-x phase diagram consisting of two different antiferromagnetic phases for x < 0.2 and 0.2 < x < 0.75, respectively, and a heavy-Fermi-liquid regime at higher Ni concentrations. The experimental results are interpreted in terms of an alloying-induced transition from local-moment to itinerant heavy-fermion magnetism. Fingerprints of this latter phase are a strongly reduced ordered moment and a short incommensurate ordering wave vector, in accord with theoretical predictions. A surprisingly good agreement between theory and experiment is found for x > 0.5. Further experimental evidence for different types of antiferromagnetic ordering derives from a line-shape analysis of the quasielastic neutron-scattering intensity, from magnetization and thermopower experiments.  相似文献

We have examined the magnetic properties of the heavy electron compounds YbAgGe and YbPtIn by 170Yb M?ssbauer spectroscopy down to 0.1 K, and the crystal field properties of YbAgGe by Perturbed Angular Correlations (PAC) measurements up to 900 K. In YbAgGe, we show that each of the two magnetically ordered phases below 0.8 K involves a specific incommensurate modulation of the Yb moment. An analysis of existing low temperature specific heat data suggests the persistence of fluctuations of the correlated Yb spins down to 0.1 K. The PAC data allow to discriminate among proposed Yb3+ crystal field level schemes. In YbPtIn, we show that the low temperature magnetic order phase has an antiferro-para structure, where zero moment Yb ions coexist with large moment ones, and that a 90° moment reorientation occurs at 1.4 K.  相似文献

We present an investigation of the spin-Peierls transition atT SP=14.5 K in polycrystalline CuGeO3 through specific-heat and thermal-expansion measurements. Clear second-order phase-transition anomalies are found in both properties atT SP, although only a small entropy of S0.1 Rn2 is released at the transition. Most of the entropy is released atT SP<T<150 K, where the temperature dependence of the magnetic contribution to the specific heat as well as the thermal expansion exhibit extrema atT *40 K. These are caused by one-dimensional antiferromagnetic fluctuations along the Cu chains, possibly accompanied by structural fluctuations. Using Ehrenfest's relation, a hydrostatic pressure coefficient (T SP/p)p0 (0.45±0.06) K/kbar is derived.  相似文献

An elastic neutron scattering study was performed on the new superconducting heavy fermion systems UPd2Al3 and UNi2Al3. The neutron diffraction patterns reveal unambiguously long range antiferromagnetic order in UPd2Al3 with an ordered magnetic moment U = (0.85±0.03) B , which coexists with the superconducting state. This is by far the largest U value observed for any heavy fermion superconductor. For UNi2Al3, no long-range magnetic order could be observed for temperaturesT1.5 K, yielding an upper limit of the ordered moment of 0.2 B .  相似文献

We report (27)Al Knight shift ( (27)K) measurement on a single-crystal UNi(2)Al(3) that reveals a coexistence of superconductivity and a spin-density-wave (SDW) type of magnetic ordering ( T(SDW) = 4.5 K). The spin part of (27)K, (27)K(s), does not change down to 50 mK across the superconducting (SC) transition temperature T(c) approximately 0.9 K. In contrast with the isostructural compound UPd(2)Al(3) ( T(c) approximately 2 K), which was identified to be a spin-singlet d-wave superconductor, the behavior of (27)K strongly supports that UNi(2)Al(3) , like UPt(3) and Sr(2)RuO(4), belongs to a class of spin-triplet SC pairing state superconductors.  相似文献

We report dc-magnetization measurements on YbRh2Si2 at temperatures down to 0.04 K, magnetic fields B< or =11.5 T, and under hydrostatic pressure P< or =1.3 GPa. At ambient pressure a kink at B* =9.9 T indicates a new type of field-induced transition from an itinerant to a localized 4f state. This transition is different from the metamagnetic transition observed in other heavy-fermion compounds, as here ferromagnetic rather than antiferromagnetic correlations dominate below B*. Hydrostatic pressure experiments reveal a clear correspondence of B* to the characteristic spin fluctuation temperature determined from specific heat.  相似文献

NiAl nanoparticles are of considerable importance because of interest in examining the effects of size, surface area, and composition on their physical and catalytic properties. Recently, a new method for the ‘bottom up’ wet chemical preparation of nickel aluminides has been reported. The ability to leach the aluminum from this system provides an entrance to the preparation of skeletal‐type metal catalysts similar to those produced in Raney‐type systems. Furthermore, it is believed that these nanoparticulate catalysts should provide high surface areas and high activities, while the presence of aluminum within the bulk of these catalysts provides additional stability. Here, we present the results of studies conducted on this system which compare their properties and behavior with traditional bulk Raney nickel systems. Additionally, we show that we are able to alter the properties of these nanoparticles by changing the stoichiometric ratio of nickel and aluminum. The properties of all systems have been analyzed through the use of nitrogen adsorption, X‐ray diffraction, and elemental analysis. The tetragonal heavy-fermion compound CeCu?Si? exhibits a superconducting ground state (S type, T(c) = 0.67 K) close to a magnetic instability. Here, we present angle-resolved resistivity measurements of the upper critical field H(c2). In-plane rotation of S-type CeCu?Si? single crystals reveals a fourfold oscillation of H(c2). An extended weak-coupling BCS model for a d-wave symmetry including strong Pauli-limiting effects confirms the aforementioned angular dependence and points towards d(xy) symmetry of the order parameter.  相似文献
