Heterodyne interferometric polarization coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (HIP‐CARS) spectroscopy

We demonstrate a new technique that combines polarization sensitivity of the coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) response with heterodyne amplification for background‐free detection of CARS signals. In this heterodyne interferometric polarization CARS (HIP‐CARS), the major drawbacks of polarization and heterodyne CARS are rectified. Using a home‐built picosecond optical parametric oscillator, we are able to address vibrational stretches between 600 and 1650 cm⁻¹ and record continuous high‐resolution Raman equivalent HIP‐CARS spectra. Application of microextraction by packed sorbent to isolation of psychotropic drugs from human serum

A method of microextraction by packed sorbent (MEPS) followed by liquid chromatography with diode array detection has been developed and optimized for the extraction of six tricyclic antidepressants (amitriptyline, nortriptyline, imipramine, desipramine, doxepin, nordoxepin) from human serum. The optimal parameters of MEPS extraction (type of sorbent, volume of sample, composition, and volume of washing and elution solutions) for these drugs in spiked samples were defined. The developed MEPS procedure was validated and then successfully applied to the analysis of serum reference material. The limit of detection (0.02–0.05 μg/mL), intraday (2.7–8.8%) and interday (4.4–11.6%) precision (RSD), and the accuracy of the assay (94.5–108.8%) at three concentration levels—0.2, 0.5, and 0.8 μg/mL—were estimated. The accuracy of the method was evaluated by the analysis of certified reference material. Moreover, the validated procedure was compared with the solid-phase extraction technique. Finally, microextraction by packed sorbent was assessed as a suitable tool in forensic and clinical methods for serum sample preparations.     

ON LACUNARY STATISTICAL CONVERGENCE OF ORDER α

In this article, we introduce the concept of lacunary statistical convergence of order α of real number sequences and give some inclusion relations between the sets of lacunary statistical convergence of order α and strong Nαθ(p)-summability. Furthermore, some relations between the spaces Nαθ(p) and Sαθare examined.     

High‐resolution narrowband CARS spectroscopy in the spectral fingerprint region

Coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) spectroscopy is an important technique for spectroscopy and chemically selective microscopy, but wider implementation requires dedicated versatile tunable sources. We describe an optical parametric oscillator (OPO) based on a magnesium oxide‐doped periodically poled lithium niobate crystal, with a novel variable output coupler, used as a tunable coherent light source. The OPO's signal wavelength ranges from 880 to 1040 nm and its idler wavelength from 1090 to 1350 nm. We use this OPO to demonstrate high‐resolution narrowband CARS spectroscopy on bulk polystyrene from 900 to 3600 cm⁻¹, covering a large part of the molecular fingerprint region. Recording vibrational spectra using narrowband CARS spectroscopy has several advantages over spontaneous Raman spectroscopy, which we discuss. We isolate the resonant part of the CARS spectrum and compare it to the spontaneous Raman spectrum of polystyrene using the maximum entropy method of phase retrieval; we find them to be in extremely good agreement. Microwave-assisted extraction of tricyclic antidepressants from human serum followed by high performance liquid chromatography determination

A microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) method has been developed and optimized for the extraction of six tricyclic antidepressants (TCAD; nordoxepin, nortriptyline, imipramine, amitriptyline, doxepin, dezypramine) from human serum. Optimal parameters of MAE (solvent and extraction temperature) for water solution of these drugs were defined. The microwave-assisted procedure developed was validated by extraction of serum samples at two concentration levels and then successfully applied to the analysis of reference material. Limit of quantification, precision and recovery were found for the studied compounds in the ranges 0.04-0.15 microg/mL, 1.57-4.34% (RSD) and 94-105%, respectively.     

SOME GEOMETRIC PROPERTIES OF A NEW DIFFERENCE SEQUENCE SPACE INVOLVING LACUNARY SEQUENCES

In this paper, we define a new generalized difference sequence space involving lacunary sequence. Then, we examine k-NUC property and property （β） for this space and also show that it is not rotund where p = （pr） is a bounded sequence of positive real numbers with pr ≥ 1 for all r ∈ N.     

How does cold constrain life cycles of terrestrial plants and animals?

Short summer seasons with low thermal energy input characterise polar ecosystems. Climatic variables and physical isolation of terrestrial habitats act as selective filters which must be passed to allow colonisation, establishment and survival in these extreme environments. Life history studies of the terrestrial biota of such ecosystems give little evidence of adaptive responses to low temperatures having evolved in situ, even though behavioural, ecophysiological and biochemical features allowing tolerance of the likely extremes are well-developed. Observed life history strategies are often consistent with the general predictions of adversity (A) or stress (S) selection. However, biota successful in these extreme environments may be better-grouped by the lack of particular life history features, rather than common possession.
