Composition and thermal stability of SiO2-based hybrid materials TEOS-MTEOS system

Hybrid materials with different amounts of organics permanently bound on the inorganic network obtained in the TEOS-MTEOS (tetraethoxysilan-methyltriethoxysilan) system are used for obtaining coatings with different optical and mechanical properties. To study the thermal stability of the mentioned materials, compositions with different molar ratios of the precursors were prepared. The influence of the solvent and water amounts on the gelation process was also investigated. The gels obtained were characterised by IR spectrometry and their decomposition temperatures were determined by DTA/TG. Thermal stability of the gels is rather influenced by their composition than the conditions of the gelation process. Composition dependence of the structural chemistry and magnetism of Ca2.5Sr0.5(Ga,Co)1+xMn2−xO8

Polycrystalline samples of bilayered brownmillerite-like Ca_2.5Sr_0.5GaCo_0.15Mn_1.85O₈ and Ca_2.5Sr_0.5Ga_1.2Mn_1.8O₈ have been prepared and characterised by magnetometry and neutron diffraction over a wide temperature range. The structural chemistry and magnetic properties are compared to those of Ca_2.5Sr_0.5GaMn₂O₈. Ga enrichment has a significant effect on the former but not on the latter, whereas changes in both occur when paramagnetic Co³⁺ cations enter the parent phase on the 4-coordinate sites. The coupling between the environment around the 4-coordinate cations and the transition to an antiferromagnetic ordered state that was observed in Ca_2.5Sr_0.5GaMn₂O₈ is not apparent in the cation-substituted compositions, although both show long-range antiferromagnetic order at low temperatures.     

Synthesis, crystal structure, and nonlinear optical behavior of beta-unsubstituted meso-meso E-vinylene-linked porphyrin dimers

[structure: see text] A vinylene-linked porphyrin dimer, with no substituents at the beta-positions, has been synthesized by CuI/CsF promoted Stille coupling. In the crystal structure of this dimer, the C(2)H(2) bridge is twisted by 45 degrees relative to the plane of the porphyrins. The absorption, emission spectra, and electrochemistry reveal substantial porphyrin-porphyrin pi-conjugation. The triplet excited-state absorption spectrum of this dimer makes it suitable for reverse saturable absorption at 710-900 nm.
