Rank,covering number and a simple spectrum

For a dynamical system (X, B, T, μ) we investigate the connections between metric invariants, the rankr(T) and the covering numberF ^*(T) and a spectral property for having a simple spectrum. Given a positive integerr≥2, a real numberb, 0<b<1 such thatr·b≥1, we construct examples of systems withr(T)=r, F ^*(T)=b and having a simple spectrum.     

Synthesis,mesogenic and dielectric properties of fluorosubstituted isothiocyanatoterphenyls

The synthesis, mesomorphic and physical properties of 14 homologous series of laterally fluorinated 4?-alkyl-4-isothiocyanatoterphenyls were described. Influence of the number of fluorine atoms and their position in the terphenyl core on the phase transition temperatures, nematic range, dielectric and optic anisotropy as well as bulk viscosity were discussed. The compounds with the most optimal properties for formulation of nematic mixtures were selected, and mixture examples with low viscosity and medium or high birefringence were presented.

Mesomorphic and dielectric properties of esters useful for formulation of nematic mixtures for dual frequency addressing system

Mesomorphic and dielectric properties of three homologous series of two and three ring fluorosubstituted esters are described. They are 4-cyano-3-fluorophenyl 4-alkyloxy-2-fluorobenzoates, 4-cyano-3-fluorophenyl 4-(4-alkylbenzoyloxy)-2-fluorobenzoates and 3-fluoro-4-cyanophenyl, or 3-fluoro-4-isothiocyanatophenyl or 3,4-difluorophenyl 4′-alkyl-2,3-difluoro-biphenyl-4-carboxylates. The compounds exhibit the nematic mesophase accompanied by the smectic A or smectic C mesophase in some cases. Most of them show strong dependence of the dielectric anisotropy Δε upon frequency, at low frequencies Δε reaches a value ∼200, while at high frequencies a small negative dielectric anisotropy appears.     

Astrophysical <Emphasis Type="Italic">S</Emphasis>-factor of T(<Superscript>4</Superscript>He, γ)<Superscript>7</Superscript>Li reaction at <Emphasis Type="Italic">E</Emphasis><Subscript>cm</Subscript> = 15.7 keV

The astrophysical S-factor of the reaction T(⁴He, γ)⁷Li is measured for the first time at the center of mass energy E _cm = 15.7 keV, lower than the energy range of the Standard Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (SBBN) model. The experiment is performed on a Hall pulsed accelerator (TPU, Tomsk). An acceleration pulse length of 10 μs allows one to suppress the background of cosmic radiation and the ambient medium by five orders of magnitude. A beam intensity of ~ 5 × 10^{14 4}He⁺ ions per pulse allows one to measure an extremely low reaction yield. The yield of γ-quanta with the energies E _γ ⁰ = 2483.7 keV and E _γ ¹ = 2006.1 keV is registered by NaI(Tl) detectors with the efficiency ε = 0.331 ± 0.026. A method for direct measurement of the background from the chain of reactions T(⁴He, ⁴He)T→T(T, 2n)X→(n, γ) and/or (n, n′γ) which ends by neutron activation of materials surrounding the target is proposed and implemented in this study. The value of the astrophysical S-factor of the reaction T(⁴He, γ)⁷Li S _αt (E _cm = 15.7 keV) = 0.091 ± 0.032 keV b provides the choice from the set of experimental data for the astrophysical S _αt -factor in favor of experimental data [4] with S _αt (E _cm = 0) = 0.1067 ± 0.0064 keV b.     

Adsorption of 137Cs on titanium ferrocyanide and transformation of the sorbent to lithium titanate: a new method for long term immobilization of 137Cs

Dynamic adsorption of radiocesium on titanium ferrocyanide grains from reactor coolant simulating solution containing salts at moderate concentrations has been investigated. Effective decontamination of the neutral solutions has been achieved, in the amounts of a more than 20 thousand bed volumes. After adsorption the titanium ferrocyanide was transferred to titanates and calcined at 900 °C. The leaching test of the obtained lithium titanates indicates that the loaded adsorbent can serve as an effective primary barrier in nuclear waste repositories.     

Photoelectrical memory effect in ZnIn2Se4

The compound ZnIn₂Se₄ with n-type conductivity is shown to exhibit electro-optical memory effect and negative resistance effect similar to those previously reported for ZnIn₂S₄. At low temperature ZnIn₂Se₄ material will present a high conductivity during and after illumination by light of energy greater than the band gap. This high conductivity state can be quenched in three different ways (i) by heating the sample until it reaches room temperature, (ii) by illumination with monochromatic light of appropriate energy, (iii) by an electric field. In the latter case the material exhibits a negative resistance effect in the transition between the low and high conductivity conditions. These charge storage phenomena have been explained by assuming the presence of a level, localized in the forbidden gap, which is twofold negative charged and presents a repulsive barrier to the recombination of electrons.     

Topological and metric product\mathbb{Z}^d -actions and their applications-actions and their applications

We show that for a -action Ψ being the Kronecker sum of a symbolic strictly ergodic -actionT and a Chacon -actionS, the rank (covering number) of Ψ is the same as that forT. Using this result we construct, for a given natural numberr≥2 and a real numberb∈(0,1) withr\b≥1, a -action with rankr, covering numberb and a simple spectrum. On the other hand, for any positive integersr, m with 1≤m≤r≤∞ we construct a -action with rankr and spectral multiplicitym.
