Dephasing in disordered metals with superconductive grains

The temperature dependence of electron dephasing time tau(phi)(T) is calculated for a disordered metal with a small concentration of superconductive grains. Above the macroscopic superconducting transition line, when electrons in the metal are normal, Andreev reflection from the grains leads to a nearly temperature-independent contribution to the dephasing rate. In a broad temperature range tau(-1)(phi)(T) strongly exceeds the prediction of the classical theory of dephasing in normal disordered conductors, whereas magnetoresistance is dominated (in two dimensions) by the Maki-Tompson correction and is positive.     

Quantum percolation in granular metals

Theory of quantum corrections to conductivity of granular metal films is developed for the realistic case of large randomly distributed tunnel conductances. Quantum fluctuations of intergrain voltages (at energies E much below the bare charging energy scale E(C)) suppress the mean conductance g (E) much more strongly than its standard deviation sigma(E). At sufficiently low energies E(*) any distribution becomes broad, with sigma(E(*)) approximately g (E(*)), leading to strong local fluctuations of the tunneling density of states. The percolative nature of the metal-insulator transition is established by a combination of analytic and numerical analysis of the matrix renormalization group equations.     

A monopole mass filter with a hyperbolic V-shaped electrode

In this article we compare the classical monopole mass filter of von Zahn and the monopole mass filter with a hyperbolic V-shaped electrode. The experimental results and those of computer simulation for both mass spectrometers are presented. We show that the replacement of a conventional 90 degrees V-shaped electrode by an electrode with a hyperbolic profile substantially improves the peak shape of any given mass, and increases the mass resolution by a factor of 3-4 and the abundance sensitivity by a factor of 100. The potential of high analytical performance combined with electroforming techniques for electrode manufacture indicate future practical uses of such instruments. Synthesis and spectral properties of furyl-substituted pyridines and pyrylium and pyridinium salts

2,6-Diphenyl-4-(5-R-2-furyl) pyrylium and 2,4-diphenyl-6-(5-bromo-2-furyl) pyrylium perchlorates and the corresponding pyridines and 1-methylpyridinium perchlorates were synthesized. On the basis of the UV and PMR spectra it was concluded that there is significant electronic interaction of the furylium substituent with the pyrylium and pyridinium cations.Translated from Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 10, pp. 1320–1324, October, 1988.
