Convergence of path measures arising from a mean field or polaron type interaction

Summary We discuss the limiting path measures of Markov processes with either a mean field or a polaron type interaction of the paths. In the polaron type situation the strength is decaying at large distances on the time axis, and so the interaction is of short range in time. In contrast, in the mean field model, the interaction is weak, but of long range in time. Donsker and Varadhan proved that for the partition functions, there is a transition from the polaron type to the mean field interaction when passing to a limit by letting the strength tend to zero while increasing the range. The discussion of the path measures is more subtle. Negative luminescence from mid-wave infrared HgCdTe diode arrays

A self-referencing, optical modulation technique was used to measure the negative luminescence efficiencies of an array of mid-wave infrared HgCdTe photodiodes with cutoff wavelength 4.6 μm as a function of sample temperature. The internal efficiency at a wavelength of 4 μm was 93% at 295 K, and nearly independent of temperature in the 240–300 K range. This corresponds to an apparent temperature reduction >50 K at room temperature and >30 K at 240 K. Moreover, the reverse-bias saturation current density was only 0.13 A/cm². The measured transmission and emission spectra were simulated using empirical HgCdTe absorption formulas from the literature.     

Standardization of Methods for Characterizing the Surface Geometry of Solids

Since a comprehensive survey published in 1999 [1] much work was done in standardizing measuring methods to characterize the surface geometry of dispersed and/or porous solids and to certify reference materials. The present paper is an extension of a short communication [2]. It gives a survey on existing standards and reports on new drafts and proposals.

Continuous spectral decompositions of Abelian group actions on -algebras

Let G be a locally compact Abelian group. Following Ruy Exel, we view Fell bundles over the Pontrjagin dual group of G as continuous spectral decompositions of G-actions on C^*-algebras. We classify such spectral decompositions using certain dense subspaces related to Marc Rieffel's theory of square-integrability. There is a unique continuous spectral decomposition if the group acts properly on the primitive ideal space of the C^*-algebra. But there are also examples of group actions without or with several inequivalent spectral decompositions.
