Microbiological synthesis of 7-bromo-5-(o-chlorophenyl)-3-hydroxy-1,2-dihydro-3H-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-one by immobilized actinomycetes

It has been shown that the highest yields (15%) of 7-bromo-5-(o-chlorophenyl)-3-hydroxy-1,2-dihydro-3H-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-one are obtained by the use of the cells of actinomycetes immobilized in poly(vinyl alcohol) in the presence of the cosubstrate 7-bromo-5-(o-chlorophenyl)-3-methyl-1,2-dihydro-3H-1,4-benzodiazepin-2-one.Physicochemical Institute, Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, Odessa. Solid-state structure of copper complexes of <Emphasis Type="Italic">N</Emphasis>-(2-carboxyethyl)chitosan

The sorptivity for ions of the Irving-Williams series (Zn²⁺, Cu²⁺, Co²⁺, Ni²⁺) was estimated for the chelate sorbent N-(2-carboxyethyl)chitosan cross-linked by nanosecond electron-beam irradiation. The maximum capacity reaches 3.7 mmol/g using a mixture of the appropriate sulfates at pH 4.5. The selectivity of copper sorption is 80%. The structure of the coordination sphere of the copper complexes with N-(2-carboxyethyl)chitosan was investigated by ESR spectroscopy. Model for the dynamics of two interacting axisymmetric spherical bubbles undergoing small shape oscillations

Interaction between acoustically driven or laser-generated bubbles causes the bubble surfaces to deform. Dynamical equations describing the motion of two translating, nominally spherical bubbles undergoing small shape oscillations in a viscous liquid are derived using Lagrangian mechanics. Deformation of the bubble surfaces is taken into account by including quadrupole and octupole perturbations in the spherical-harmonic expansion of the boundary conditions on the bubbles. Quadratic terms in the quadrupole and octupole amplitudes are retained, and surface tension and shear viscosity are included in a consistent manner. A set of eight coupled second-order ordinary differential equations is obtained. Simulation results, obtained by numerical integration of the model equations, exhibit qualitative agreement with experimental observations by predicting the formation of liquid jets. Simulations also suggest that bubble-bubble interactions act to enhance surface mode instability.     

Synthesis and magnetic properties of the complex oxide La<Subscript>1.5</Subscript>Sr<Subscript>1.5</Subscript>CuMnO<Subscript>6.67</Subscript>

A new oxide phase, La_1.5Sr_1.5CuMnO_6.67, related to the Ruddlesden-Popper homologous series A _{n + 1}B _n O_{3n + 1} (n = 2) was synthesized. The magnetic susceptibility of the obtained compound obeys the Curie-Weiss law above 114 K. At 14 K, a magnetic anomaly related to the transition to the spin-glass state was detected.     

Bubble pulsations between parallel plates

The dynamic response of an acoustically driven spherical bubble between parallel plates is investigated in the linear approximation. For the case of rigid plates, explicit expressions are provided for the resonance frequency and damping, and the importance of including compressibility of the liquid is discussed. For wide channels, approximate results are presented that account for finite acoustic impedance of the plates.
