New Heat-Resistant Polyimidates Derived from Bisphenols and Mono- and Dicarboxylic Acid Imidoyl Chlorides

New polyimidates were prepared from bisphenols and mono- and dicarboxylic acid imidoyl chlorides. The structures of the polymers were determined, and their physicochemical, chemical, and thermal properties were studied. The possibility of preparing film and compression materials with good mechanical characteristics from these polymers was examined.     

Terminal control in flat systems

The article considers the application of dynamical feedback control to a special class of nonlinear dynamical systems — so-called flat systems. Flat system, linearizing output, and Lie-Backlund isomorphism are among the concepts reviewed. Spectral-luminescent properties of oxazole derivatives with annelated aromatic and heterocyclic rings in neutral and acid media

An investigation was carried out of the spectral-luminescent and acid-base properties at the stage of formation of the hydrogen bond and during the protonation of compounds with annelated aromatic and heterocyclic rings, obtained by introduction of bridging groups -CH=CH- (I), -CH=N- (II) and -CO-N(CH₃)-(III) in the 4- and 2-positions of the molecules of 4-substituted derivatives of 2,5-diphenyloxazole. The nature of the reaction center was estabished, and an analysis was carried out of its sensitivity to the electronic influence of the substituents, and the reasons for the observed differences in the properties of compounds of various reaction series are discussed. A comparative analysis of the fluorescent properties of the neutral and protonated forms of the oxazole derivatives studied was made and the conclusion that the generation is possible of laser emission by the protonated forms of compounds of the reaction series (I) was confirmed.Translated from Teoreticheskaya i Éksperimental'naya Khimiya, Vol. 28, No. 4, pp. 343–349, July–August, 1992.     

Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight analysis of Bacillus spores using a 2.94 microm infrared laser

The performance of infrared (2.94 microm) and ultraviolet (337 nm) lasers were compared for analysis of purified spores of B. subtilis, B. cereus and B. globigii on a four-inch end-cap reflectron time-of-flight instrument. Infrared matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (IR-MALDI) mass spectra of these microorganisms displayed a larger number of biomarker peaks above m/z 4000, compared with UV-MALDI. Biomarker peaks were observed at higher m/z values with the IR laser.     

The optical module of Baikal-GVD

In April 2015, the first cluster of Baikal-GVD was deployed in Lake Baikal and put into operation. It comprises eight strings. Each string consists of 24 optical modules. An optical module is a detection element of Baikal-GVD; it includes a Hamamatsu R7081-100 photomultiplier tube with a high quantum sensitivity. We describe the design of the optical module, the front-end electronics, and the laboratory characterization and calibration.     

Radiation-Induced Transformations of Iron(II) Formate

The solid-phase decomposition of the iron formate crystal hydrate Fe(HCOO)₂ · 2H₂O under exposure to ⁶⁰Co -rays or 3.5-MeV electrons was studied. It was found that the irradiation of this salt to absorbed doses of 0.1–2 MGy resulted in the radiolysis of water of crystallization and the HCOO^– anion and in the reduction or oxidation of the Fe²⁺ cation. The composition of the solid-phase (-Fe, -Fe, FeO, -Fe -Fe₂O₃, Fe₃O₄, and FeCO₃) and gaseous (H₂O, CO, CO₂, HCOOH, and CH₄) radiolysis products of the substance was determined.

Radiation-Thermal Processes at the Surface of Pyrogenic γ-Alumina

The effects of ⁶⁰Co -radiation, 75-keV electrons, and thermal history (295–973 K) on the surface properties of pyrogenic -Al₂O₃ were studied by thermal desorption mass spectrometry. It was found that the state of a hydroxyl cover and the concentrations of surface acid–base sites and chlorine impurity atoms can be regulated by changing the conditions of oxide irradiation.
