This review paper covers the low temperature wet growth of nano-engineered particles of ZnO-based mixed metal oxides, their growth mechanism, and characterization using X-ray diffraction, SEM, TEM and IR, UV–visible, and XPS spectral techniques. Main focus of this article is centered on low temperature semi-wet methods of synthesis that are suitable for large scale production of zinc oxide-based systems mixed with iron oxide, copper oxide, nickel oxide and cobalt oxide. These mixed metal oxides have broad industrial applications as catalyst, semiconductors, adsorbents, superconductors, electro-ceramics, and antifungal agents in addition to extensive applications in medicines. This paper discusses the low-cost and environment friendly synthesis of these mixed metal oxides, measurement of properties and applicability of these materials systems.  相似文献

We investigated the condition of unique self-written channel and multichannel propagation inside bulk photopolymerizable materials. Light was introduced in the medium by a single-mode optical fiber. At a very low beam power of 5 muW , a unique uniform-channel waveguide without any broadening was obtained by polymerization. When the input power is increased to 100 muW , the guide becomes chaotic and multichannel. We connected two fibers separated by a 1-cm distance. The results open the door to studies of the optical and electro-optical properties of photopolymerized guides doped by nonlinear optical chromophores and to possible applications in integrated optical devices.  相似文献

We report an experimental and theoretical study on the optimization of (2+1)D self-written waveguide formation inside a photopolymerizable material. The accurate control of the refractive index value inside the bulk of the material during the polymerization process gives us the opportunity to define a virtual core and a virtual cladding for the system. The V value which characterizes the guidance properties of a fiber can be applied to this propagation. The control of the V value allows us to propagate single mode or multimode waveguides on a few centimeters. Numerical simulations of these waveguides based on a paraxial model including both photopolymerization and Kerr effect give very good agreement with our experimental results.  相似文献

We report experimental and theoretical investigations of multiple laser-line emission in a distributed-feedback dye laser pumped by two coherent optical beams. We have used a Lloyd interferometer configuration with second- and third-order Bragg reflections to study the interaction between the two incident pumps in an organic thin film. We demonstrated theoretically that the number of laser emission lines can be interpreted with reference to the saturation effect in the refractive index.  相似文献

Background  

Short-term habituation of the startle response represents an elementary form of learning in mammals. The underlying mechanism is located within the primary startle pathway, presumably at sensory synapses on giant neurons in the caudal pontine reticular nucleus (PnC). Short trains of action potentials in sensory afferent fibers induce depression of synaptic responses in PnC giant neurons, a phenomenon that has been proposed to be the cellular correlate for short-term habituation. We address here the question whether both this synaptic depression and the short-term habituation of the startle response are localized at the presynaptic terminals of sensory afferents. If this is confirmed, it would imply that these processes take place prior to multimodal signal integration, rather than occurring at postsynaptic sites on PnC giant neurons that directly drive motor neurons.  相似文献

A trace elemental analysis was carried out in various parts of 12 anticancer medicinal plants, using the PIXE (particle‐induced X‐ray emission) technique. A 3‐MeV proton beam was used to excite the samples, and spectra were recorded using a Si (Li) detector. Data analysis was done using the GUPIX software. The elements Cl, K, Ca, Ti, V, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, Br and Sr were identified, and their concentrations estimated. We have investigated the behaviour of temperature dependent periodic-index gratings fabricated in a nematic elastomer. The gratings have been obtained by photopolymerisation under a microscopy apparatus. Contraction properties, as well as diffraction properties, have been studied as a function of temperature. Unidirectional contraction has been demonstrated by means of circular figure deformation and the polarisation dependency of the diffraction by the gratings has been determined.  相似文献

Through time‐dependent gas transport properties, we have investigated the physical aging process of amorphous glassy polymer films made from a polynorbornene. By combining the concepts of free volume and the kinetic theory of glass stabilization, it was found that the time dependence of the gas permeability could be rationalized through the thickness dependence of the glass transition temperature. A mathematical relationship was developed that directly relates polymer physical aging (tracked by the gas permeability decay) and sample thickness. It was confirmed by permeation measurements with nitrogen and helium that the aging process is accelerated for thin glassy polymer films (about 8000 Å). The theoretical results show that accelerated aging for thin films compared to thick films can be qualitatively predicted, based on the decrease in the glass transition temperature when the film thickness decreases. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A study of gas transport properties of novel polynorbornenes with increasing length of an aliphatic pendant group R (CH3 , CH3(CH2)3 , CH3(CH2)5 , CH3(CH2)9 ) has been performed. These polymers were synthesized using novel organometallic complex catalysts via an addition polymerization route. This reaction route maintained the bridged norbornene ring structure in the final polymer backbone. Gas permeability and glass transition temperature were found to be higher than those for polynorbornenes prepared by ring-opening metathesis and reported in the literature. It was shown that for noncondensable gases such as H2 and He the selectivity over N2 decreased when the length of the pendant group increased, but remained relatively stable for the more condensable gases (O2 and CO2). The permeability coefficient is correlated well to the inverse of the fractional free volume of the polymers. The more condensable gases showed a deviation from this correlation for the longest pendant group, probably due to an increase of the solubility effect.
