Lifetime study of high-spin states in 104,105In

In the neutron deficient isotopes _104,105In lifetimes of high spin states in the range from 0.5 ps to 600 ps have been measured in a coincidence recoil distance Doppler shift (RDDS) experiment. By combining the Doppler shift attenuation (DSA) and RDDS methods at few μm flight distances, the problem of delayed feeding has been avoided and very short lifetimes in the range 0.5–0.8 ps have been determined. Shell model calculations with strong restrictions for the neutron orbitals reveal good agreement with experimental level energies and still fair agreement for most measured B(M1) and B(E2) values. Excited states in126Ba

The K=3/2 ₁ ^T rotational band has been identified in⁹⁹Y with a band-head energy of 536 keV. This result is in contradiction with previously reported data, but is in agreement with predictions of the IBFM/PTQM model.     

Low spin structure of128Xe

The low spin structure of¹²⁸Xe has been studied by means of the (α,n) reaction using beam energies near the Coulomb barrier. An extended level scheme with spins I≤10? and many new spin and parity assignments could be established. The results point to the completeness of the reaction at low spins and excitation energies below 2.5 MeV.

Radiation-driven hydrodynamics of high- hohlraums on the national ignition facility

The first hohlraum experiments on the National Ignition Facility (NIF) using the initial four laser beams tested radiation temperature limits imposed by plasma filling. For a variety of hohlraum sizes and pulse lengths, the measured x-ray flux shows signatures of filling that coincide with hard x-ray emission from plasma streaming out of the hohlraum. These observations agree with hydrodynamic simulations and with an analytical model that includes hydrodynamic and coronal radiative losses. The modeling predicts radiation temperature limits with full NIF (1.8 MJ), greater, and of longer duration than required for ignition hohlraums.     

Coupling Electrochemistry with Probe Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectrometry

A new coupling of electrochemistry with mass spectrometry (MS) using probe electrospray ionization (PESI) is presented. Due to the high salt tolerance of PESI, the detection of electrochemical reaction products in room‐temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) is realized for the first time. Furthermore, PESI‐MS allows the analysis of electrochemical reaction products on different or multiple electrode surfaces. In addition, peptides and proteins fractionated through isoelectric focusing (IEF) in the presence of an external electric field can also be directly analyzed by using PESI‐MS, suggesting a new and rapid characterization means for the IEF technique. This study reveals the versatility of EC/PESI‐MS, which could have an impact in electrochemistry and bioanalysis fields.
