We identify conditions under which correlations resulting from quantum measurements performed on macroscopic systems (systems composed of a number of particles of the order of the Avogadro number) can be described by local realism. We argue that the emergence of local realism at the macroscopic level is caused by an interplay between the monogamous nature of quantum correlations and the fact that macroscopic measurements do not reveal properties of individual particles.  相似文献

We investigate the entanglement properties of resonating-valence-bond states on two and higher dimensional lattices, which play a significant role in our understanding of various many-body systems. We show that these states are genuinely multipartite entangled, while there is only a negligible amount of two-site entanglement. We comment on possible physical implications of our findings.  相似文献

We show that sharp measurements of total magnetization cannot be used to reveal contextuality in macroscopic many-body systems of spins of arbitrary dimension. We decompose each such measurement into set of projectors corresponding to well-defined value of total magnetization. We then show that such sets of projectors are too restricted to construct Kochen–Specker sets.  相似文献

We present a brief historical introduction to the topic of Bell's theorem. Next we present the surprising features of the three-particle Greenberger—Horne—Zeilinger (GHZ) states. Finally we shall present a method of analysis of the GHZ correlations, which is based on a numerical approach, which is effectively equivalent to the full set of Bell inequalities for correlation functions for the given problem. The aim of our numerical approach is to answer the following question: Do additional possible local settings lead for the GHZ states to more pronounced violation of local realism (measured by the resistance of the quantum nature of the correlations with respect to “white” noise admixtures)?  相似文献

Tests of local realism versus quantum mechanics based on Bell's inequality employ two entangled qubits. We investigate the general case of two entangled quantum systems defined in N-dimensional Hilbert spaces, or " quNits." Via a numerical linear optimization method we show that violations of local realism are stronger for two maximally entangled quNits ( 3相似文献

We present a kinematic approach for obtaining the geometric phase of a mixed state under nonunitary evolution. This phase is gauge-invariant and measurable and leads to well-known results for unitary evolution.  相似文献

We show that genuine multiparty quantum correlations can exist on its own, without a supporting background of genuine multiparty classical correlations, even in macroscopic systems. Such possibilities can have important implications in the physics of quantum information and phase transitions.  相似文献

The security of a cryptographic key that is generated by communication through a noisy quantum channel relies on the ability to distill a shorter secure key sequence from a longer insecure one. For an important class of protocols, which exploit tomographically complete measurements on entangled pairs of any dimension, we show that the noise threshold for classical advantage distillation is identical with the threshold for quantum entanglement distillation. As a consequence, the two distillation procedures are equivalent: neither offers a security advantage over the other.  相似文献

We propose entropic measures for the strength of single-particle and two-particle interference in interferometric experiments where each particle of a pair traverses a multipath interferometer. Optimal single-particle interference excludes any two-particle interference, and vice versa. We report an inequality that states the compromises allowed by quantum mechanics in intermediate situations, and identify a class of two-particle states for which the upper bound is reached. Our approach is applicable to symmetric two-partite systems of any finite dimension.  相似文献

Entropy of a needle in a haystack   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In a quantum search algorithm, the initial state which is a linear superposition of all possible basis states is a separable state. At each iteration, the state becomes more and more entangled until eventually it disentangles and reverts to a separable state consisting of the marked state. It is therefore interesting to study how entanglement changes in a Grover search algorithm.  相似文献
