Photochromism of indoline spiropyrans of the coumarin series in polymeric matrices

The photochromic properties and aggregation processes of merocyanine forms of indoline spiropyrans of the coumarin series in the block and film poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) were studied and compared by spectral and kinetic methods. Photochromism of the synthesized compounds depends on their structure. The efficient formation of J-aggregates was observed for indoline spiropyrans of the coumarin series based on 8-formyl-7-hydroxy-4-methylcoumarin and 3-formyl-4-hydroxycoumarin. Hydrazones derived from thiooxamohydrazides and 3-formyl-4-hydroxycoumarin: synthesis, structures, and fragmentation

Novel hydrazones were obtained from thiooxamohydrazides and 3-3-formyl-4-hydroxycoumarin. According to data from NMR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction, the coumarin fragment in the compounds obtained exists as 4-hydroxycoumarin or chromane-2,4-dione. When dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide, these hydrazones undergo fragmentation into derivatives of 1,3,4-thiadiazole and 4-hydroxycoumarin.     

Synergism and antagonism in extracting local anesthetics from aqueous media with mixtures of solvents

The extraction of local anesthetics from aqueous media with mixtures of solvent is examined and its synergistic and antagonistic effects are determined. Synergism parameters, separation factors, constants for the formation of anesthetic complexes, and solvate numbers are calculated.     

Synthesis and structures of boron complexes of acyl hydroxy coumarins

New boron chelates were synthesized by the reactions of 3-acetyl-4-hydroxycoumarin and 8-acyl-7-hydroxy-4-methylcoumarins with boron trifluoride etherate and hydroxybenzodioxaborole. The structure of 3-acetyl-4-difluoroboryloxycoumarin containing an intramolecular C=O...B coordination bond was established by X-ray diffraction. Published in Russian in Izvestiya Akademii Nauk. Photochromism of the compounds synthesized depends on their structure. The efficient formation of J-aggregates was found for indoline spiropyrans 1a,b under UV irradiation and merocyanines 3a,b, which is indicated by the appearance of absorption and fluorescence bands in the visible spectral region and the resonance character of fluorescence. Solvent-induced <Emphasis Type="Italic">E/Z</Emphasis>(C=N)-isomerization of imines of some hydroxy-substituted formylcoumarins

Aromatic imines, namely, 5-formyl-6-hydroxy-4-methyl- and 8-formyl-7-hydroxy-4-methylcoumarin derivatives, have been synthesized. A dependence of their spectral characteristics (¹H NMR spectra, electronic absorption spectra) from the solvent (DMSO, CHCl₃, DMF, acetonitrile, MeOH) has been studied. The solvatochromic effects observed for a number of imines, first of all, for 7-hydroxy-4-methyl-8-(4′-nitrophenylimino)methyl-2H-1-benzopyran-2-one, were related to their E/Z-isomerization with respect to the C=N bond based on the quantum chemical calculations by the AM1, PM3, PPP CI methods. E/Z(C=C)-Isomerization of enamines of 3-formyl-4-hydroxycoumarin induced by organic solvents

According to ¹? and ¹³? NMR data, enamines of 3-formyl-4-hydroxycoumarin exist in the keto enamine tautomeric form and undergo Z/E-isomerization around the C=C bond in CDCl₃, DMSO-d₆, and CD₃OD at room temperature. The activation energies of ?/Z-isomerization were measured experimentally and calculated by the B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) method. An X-ray diffraction study showed that 3-(benzyliminomethyl)chromane-2,4-dione in the crystalline state exists as a mixture of two keto enamine isomers.
