Sum-frequency mixing (3=1+2) of UV laser radiation (1=266 nm and 213 nm) and tunable coherent infrared light (2=1.2–2.6 m) in lithium borate (LBO) generates radiation at short wavelengths (3=188–242 nm). The UV radiation at 1 is produced by the fourth and fifth harmonic of a pulsed Nd-YAG laser. The infrared light is generated with an optical parametric oscillator of beta barium borate. The phase-matching angle is measured as function of 3 and compared with calculated values. For UV laser radiation at shorter wavelengths (173 nm1213 nm) the calculations predict an extension of the tuning range of the sum-frequency generated at 3 to wavelengths as short as the LBO transmission cutoff at 160 nm.  相似文献

We report on optical parametric oscillators (OPO's) based on periodically poled RbTiOAsO(4) (PP RTA), which are pumped by Q -switched solid-state lasers. With a diode-pumped Nd:YVO(4) laser (pulse energy, 800microJ ; pulse duration, 5.5 ns; repetition rate, 1 kHz) the PP RTA OPO generated 1.58-microm signal and 3.26-microm idler radiation with a signal pulse energy of 45microJ . The large aperture of 3 mmx3 mm of the PP RTA crystal also permitted OPO operation with pump pulse energies as high as 65 mJ, provided by a flash-lamp-pumped Q -switched Nd:YAG laser (pulse duration, 20 ns; repetition rate, 10 Hz). With this pump source the OPO generated signal pulse energies as high as 17 mJ, corresponding to an efficiency of 26%. The performance of this OPO shows that large-aperture PP RTA crystals are well suited for pulsed nanosecond OPO operation with pump pulse energies of tens of millijoules.  相似文献

This paper reports on an experimental method for measuring in Nd:YAG the Nd doping concentration (C) with high sensitivity (0.01 at.%Nd) and high spatial resolution (50 m). The method is based on the measurement of the fluorescence lifetime f of the upper Nd laser level. Additional parameters required to determine C are the intrinsic fluorescence lifetime 0 and the quenching parameter Q. The measured values of f, 0 (256.47±0.14 s) and Q (4.45±0.40×1020 cm-3) allow us to calculate the Nd concentration C with an absolute accuracy of 0.1 at.%Nd. By using this method C is measured at the outer surfaces of standard laser rods and at the faces of boule slices (with diameters of up to 50 mm). The obtained results demonstrate a detection sensitivity of 0.01 at.%Nd. PACS 42.70.Hj; 81.70.Fy  相似文献

We report a study of second- and third-harmonic generation in BiB3O6 (BiBO). The effective nonlinearity, phase-matching angle, acceptance bandwidth, and walk-off are calculated and analyzed within the principal planes of the optical indicatrix. In the experiment, the phase-matched harmonic generation is investigated within the xz and yz planes. Also, the temperature dependence of the noncritical phase matching for laser radiation propagating along the z axis is measured for second-harmonic generation (SHG) at crystal temperatures of 25–265^∘C. The corresponding wavelengths of the laser radiation are in the range of 1.16 to 1.34μm. In addition, SHG of 1342-nm radiation of a q-switched Nd:YVO4 laser system is investigated for noncritical and critical phase matching. The achieved conversion efficiencies are 59% and 20%, respectively. Besides SHG, third-harmonic generation (THG) of 1064-nm, ns laser pulses is investigated. The measured conversion efficiency is as high as 34%. For THG the properties of BiBO are compared with those of BBO and LBO.  相似文献

We present an improved Schlieren method to measure the optical quality of crystals, defined by it’s optical homogeneity and the surface roughness of it’s facets. The method is based on a combination of Schlieren, interferometric and tilting angle measurements. It is especially appropriate for the optical characterization of crystals with small clear apertures. The theory and an application of this improved technique on a BIBO crystal are given. Spatial resolution and sensitivity of the method are mainly defined by the Schlieren setup, which offers a spatial resolution as high as 27 μm and a minimum deflection angle as low as 2.3×10-6. We report the phase matching of parametric frequency conversion in the nonlinear material BiB3O6 (BiBO) and on an investigation of optical parametric oscillators (OPOs) of this new crystal. Based on the calculation of collinear type I and type II phase matching within the refractive-index planes, the most favorable directions for phase matching are identified for OPOs pumped by the fundamental or the harmonics of 1064-nm Nd-doped lasers. Based on these results, pulsed 532-nm-pumped ns OPOs are realized. The pump source is either a Q-switched high repetition rate (10 kHz) Nd:YVO4 laser (with a pulse energy of 24 J) or a low repetition rate (10 Hz), high pulse energy (120 mJ) Nd:YAG laser system. The BiBO OPO pumped by the Nd:YVO4 laser showed a very low threshold of 0.047 J/cm2. At an average pump power of 2.4 W the total OPO output power was 630 mW. By changing the phase-matching angle within the yz plane from 0 to 11.6° the signal wavelength was tuned from 735 nm to 970 nm, while the spectral width changed from 0.2 nm to 1.4 nm. By pumping the OPO with the Nd:YAG laser, the OPO had a threshold of 0.12 J/cm2, a steep slope (59%) and a high total efficiency (of up to 48%). Due to divergence broadening the spectral width changes from 8.5 nm at 800 nm to 70 nm near degeneracy. The properties of BiBO determined from the experimental results are compared with those of well-known nonlinear materials such as BBO, LBO and KTP. This paper reports on an experimental investigation and numerical simulation of the spatio-temporal dynamics of the pulse formation in flashlamp-pumped Q-switched Nd:YAG lasers. The temporal evolution of the spatial intensity distribution is measured with a fast two-dimensional CCD camera. The measurements are performed for two lasers with different cavity configurations. A laser with an optically stable resonator and an internal mode aperture generated pulses with a spatial intensity distribution which is Gaussian at all times during the 10-ns-long pulse. During the pulse evolution the value of the beam-quality factor M2remains below 1.3. In a laser with a positive-branch unstable resonator the laser pulse also starts with a Gaussian intensity distribution, but becomes rapidly non-Gaussian. The corresponding M2values increase from about 1 at the beginning of the formation of the pulse to more than 12 in the tail of the pulse. The measurements are compared with the results of a numerical simulation which takes the laser amplification, the properties of the laser cavity, and the diffraction of the beam in the laser cavity into account. The spatio-temporal dynamics of the pulse formation predicted by the numerical model are in good agreement with the experimental results.PACS 42.60.Jf  相似文献

We report on a numerical analysis of the temporal and spatial beam properties of nanosecond optical parametric oscillators (OPOs). The analysis is performed for a 355-nm-pumped critically phase-matched OPO of beta-barium borate. The calculations provide detailed information on the dependence of the OPO beam quality (measured by the quality factor M 2) on pump energy. An important result is the strong increase of the M 2 value for pump energies exceeding 1–2 times the energy at threshold. Furthermore, a temporal analysis of single OPO pulses indicates that the M 2 value strongly increases during the first few nanoseconds of the OPO oscillation. This increase is understood by considering the temporal dynamics of the spatial profiles of the OPO signal beam and the depleted pump radiation. This paper reports on an experimental investigation of the spatial beam quality of a pulsed nanosecond optical parametric oscillator (OPO). The OPO is a 355 nm pumped type-I BBO-OPO. The spatial quality of the OPO output is characterized by the M2-parameter in dependence of other experimental parameters such as resonator length, pump-beam diameter, pump-pulse duration and pump energy. The results obtained indicate, that an appropriate choice of these parameters substantially improves the spatial beam quality of the OPO output. We report an efficient, visible, nanosecond optical parametric generator of periodically poled lithium niobate pumped at 532 nm by a frequency-doubled, diode-pumped, passively Q -switched, single-mode Nd:YAG laser with 90-muJ pulse energy. The signal radiation is tunable from 637 to 593 nm. The maximum signal-conversion efficiency is 23%. Optical parametric amplification of a He-Ne laser at 632.8 nm is also studied.  相似文献
