Measurement of the production cross section for charmed baryons in proton–nucleus interactions at 70 GeV

The results of an analysis of data from the SERP-Е-184 experiment devoted to studying mechanisms of the production of charmed particles in proton–nucleus interactions at 70 GeV and their decays are presented. The data in question were obtained upon irradiating the SVD-2 active target consisting of carbon, silicon, and lead plates with a beam of 70-GeV protons. A detailed simulation on the basis of the FRITIOF7.02 and GEANT3.21 code packages made it possible to optimize event-selection criteria and to calculate the detection efficiency for Λ_c⁺ baryons. After selecting a signal from the threebody decay of a Λ_c⁺ baryon, the inclusive cross section for its production at near-threshold energies, its lifetime, and the parameter of the A dependence of the cross section were found. The Λ_c⁺ -baryon yields are tabulated along with data from other experiments and theoretical predictions.

Forward particle production in proton–nucleus interactions at momenta of 25 and 50 GeV/<Emphasis Type="Italic">с</Emphasis> and сarbon–nucleus interactions at an energy of 25 GeV per nucleon

Relative yields of high-x _F charged hadrons (π ^±, К^±, р, \(\overline p \), and d) in proton–nucleus interactions at incident-proton momenta of 25 and 50 GeV/c were measured at an angle of 0° in the momentum range between 15 and 40 GeV/c. An upper limit on the forward production of two protons in proton–nucleus interactions at 50 GeV/c was estimated. The properties of a carbon beam with an energy of 25 GeV per nucleon and fragment yields in its interaction with nuclear targets were measured within a short exposure.     

Measurement of neutral-meson masses in meson-nucleus interactions at a momentum of 7 GeV/c at the Hyperon-M setup

The π ⁰, η, K ⁰, ω, and f ₂(1270) masses were measured at the HYPERON-Msetup in meson-nucleus interactions at a momentum of 7 GeV/c by using six nuclear targets: Be, C, Al, Cu, Sn, and Pb. The experiment in question proved to be insensitive to the expected effects of a modification to the omega-meson mass in nuclear matter. As for the f ₂(1270) meson, its mass and width values averaged over all experimental data, $m_{f_2 }$ = 1275.8 ± 1.0(stat.) ± 0.4(syst.) MeV/c ² and $\Gamma _{f_2 }$ = 190.3 ± 1.9(stat.) ± 1.8(syst.) MeV/c ², agree well with the world-average values. At the same time, our experimental data do not rule out the possible effect of an in-medium modification to the f ₂(1270)-meson mass for heavy nuclei at a level better than 0.4%.     

Channel cross sections and two-body reactions in K−p interactions at 32 GeV/c

We present a systematic investigation of channel cross sections in K^?p interactions at 32 GeV/c. The energy dependence of these cross sections is discussed. We also investigate a few non-diffractive two-body reactions. The total cross sections of the two reactions $\text{K}{}^{\mathrm{?}}\text{p}\text{→}\text{K}{}^{\mathrm{1?}}\text{(890)}\text{p}\text{and}\text{K}{}^{\mathrm{?}}\text{p}\text{→}\text{K}{}^{\mathrm{1?}}\text{(1420)}\text{p}$ have a markedly different energy behaviour. There is clear evidence for the reaction $\text{K}{}^{\mathrm{?}}\text{p}\text{→}\text{K}{}^{10}\text{(890)}\text{N}{}^0\text{(1688)}$; its differnttial cross section exhibits a sharp forward slope of 24 ± 3 GeV^?2.
