Collisional Relaxation of Luminescence Anisotropy in Rarefied Gases in the Condensed Phase

The orientational relaxation of optically induced anisotropy in rarefied gases and at a damped rotation has been investigated. It has been found that the anisotropy relaxation in rarefied gases is described by a reduced kinetic equation depending only on free rotation integrals. The behavior of the integral anisotropy of luminescence for free symmetric and asymmetric top molecules has been elucidated. The law of luminescence depolarization has been obtained for asymmetric top molecules in the Gordon J-diffusion model. It represents the sum of two Stern–Volmer-type dependences, whose relative contribution is determined by the orientation of the dipole moments of transitions with absorption and emission of light in the molecular coordinate system and by the principal moments of inertia of the molecular top. It has been established that in the limit of a strongly damped rotation, kinetic equations of the general form reduce to equations of rotational diffusion. A number of modified diffusion equations correctly describing the contribution of inertial effects to the orientational relaxation of anisotropy have been obtained.

Synthesis of unsaturated esters of pyridine- and quinolinedicarboxylic acids

The divinyl, diallyl, and dipropargyl esters of pyridine-2,4-, pyridine-2,6-, and quinoline-2,4-dicarboxylic acids and the divinyl and dipropargyl esters of pyridine-2,5-dicarboxylic acid have been synthesized.     

Reactions of N-(4-methoxybenzylidene)-N,N-dialkyliminium and 2-(4-methoxyphenyl)pyridinium salts with aliphatic amines

The reaction of 4-methoxybenzylideneiminium salts with methylamine and dimethylamine on heating results in replacement of the MeO group by an alkylamino-group, whereas the reaction with piperidine affords 3,5-bis-(4-methoxybenzyl)pyridine. Syntheses,molecular structures,and thermal decomposition of cyclopentadienyldicarbonylmanganese chalcogenide derivatives

Transmetallation of the dichalcogenide complexes [CpMn(CO)₂]₂(-X₂) (X = S or Se) with M(CO)₅(thf) (M = Cr or W) afforded new heterometallic complexes CpMn(CO)₂(-Se₂)Cr(CO)₅, CpMn(CO)₂(-Se₂)[Cr(CO)₅]₂, CpMn(CO)₂(-X₂)[W(CO)₅]₂ (X = S or Se), and CpMn(CO)₂(-Se₂)[Cr(CO)₅][W(CO)₅]. According to the X-ray diffraction data, their molecular structures contain the cyclic MnX₂ fragments coordinated by one or two M(CO)₅ groups via the X atoms. Study of thermal decomposition of the manganese complexes with different Mn : M : X ratios (M = Cr, W; X = S, Se, Te) by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetry demonstrated that this process took place at rather low temperatures (100—400 °C) and was accompanied by complete elimination of the CO groups followed by elimination of the Cp groups. At any metal to chalcogen ratio, the resulting inorganic chalcogenides contained no impurities of metal oxides and carbides.     

Heterylimidazoles IV. Homolytic dissociation of hexaaryldimidazolyls and their heterocyclic analogs

The rate constants and activation energies for homolytic dissociation of 2,2-di[ ()-naphthyl]-, 2,2-diquinolinyl-, and 2,2-di(9-acridinyl)-4,4,5,5-tetraphenyldiimidazolyls in toluene in the presence of,-diphenyl--picrylhydrazine were determined. The degrees of dissociation of the diimidazolyls were found. Optical Gain of 1550-nm Range Multiple-Quantum-Well Heterostructures and Limiting Modulation Frequencies of Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers Based on Them

Results of investigation of 1550 nm range stripe semiconductor lasers fabricated from heterostructures with different designs of the gain medium are presented. It is shown that the proposed designs of the gain medium allow obtaining the effective lasing at high level of total optical losses, comparable with the typical optical losses in the vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers. The evaluation of modal gain in different types of the gain mediummade it possible to estimate the possible frequencies of the small-signal modulation of vertically emitting lasers and proposed the ways to increase them up to 20 GHz or more.
