Oligomeric polyether polyols were obtained through the acid‐catalyzed ring‐opening polymerization of epoxidized methyl oleate and the subsequent partial reduction of ester groups to give primary alcohols. The oligomers were characterized with titration, spectroscopic techniques (Fourier transform infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance), matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry, size exclusion chromatography, and differential scanning calorimetry. Depending on the degree of reduction, polyols of different hydroxyl content values were obtained and were reacted with 4,4′‐methylenebis(phenyl isocyanate) to yield polyurethanes. These materials, which were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis, could behave as hard rubbers or rigid plastics. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Surface acoustic waves (SAWs) provide a powerful tool for the modulation of polaritons in GaAs-based microcavities. In this contribution, we compare the modulation introduced by SAWs propagating along piezoelectric and non-piezoelectric crystal directions of the sample surface. Strain calculations reveal that the type-I band-gap modulation induced by the strain field is comparable for both SAW types. Piezoelectric SAWs have, however, an intrinsic longitudinal electric field, which can dissociate quantum well (QW) excitons and, thus, degrade the modulation. Images of the polariton far-field photoluminescence reveal this behavior for different excitation conditions.  相似文献

A theory of the metal-insulator transition in vanadium dioxide from the high- temperature rutile to the low- temperature monoclinic phase is proposed on the basis of cluster dynamical mean-field theory, in conjunction with the density functional scheme. The interplay of strong electronic Coulomb interactions and structural distortions, in particular, the dimerization of vanadium atoms in the low-temperature phase, plays a crucial role. We find that VO2 is not a conventional Mott insulator, but that the formation of dynamical V-V singlet pairs due to strong Coulomb correlations is necessary to trigger the opening of a Peierls gap.  相似文献

A manual method for higher order Laue zone (HOLZ) line detection with an improved effective high-voltage correction for fast and reliable evaluation of local lattice distortions from convergent-beam electron diffraction (CBED) is presented. It is compared with a high-precision Hough transform method with a dynamic correction for each individual HOLZ line used by Krämer and Mayer. Both methods are applied to unfiltered and filtered experimental CBED patterns. As an example, the local lattice distortions in the γ ? γ′ raft-like structure of a creep-deformed single-crystal nickel-based superalloy (CMSX-6) were measured. The lattice distortions obtained from both methods were analysed and showed good agreement. As a by-product, it was noted that specimen cooling enhanced the contrast of CBED patterns to the extent that the quality of CBED patterns taken at low temperatures without energy filtering was found to be qualitatively similar to that of CBED patterns taken at room temperature with energy filtering.  相似文献

Nano titanium dioxide (nTiO2), generally considered to be toxicologically inert, is manufactured in large quantities and extensively applied in consumer products. The small size and large surface area endow them with an active group or intrinsic toxicity. Advances in instrumentation are making Raman spectroscopy the tool of choice for an increasing number of (bio) chemical applications. One of the great advantages of this technique is its ability to provide information on the concentration, structure and interaction of biochemical molecules in their microenvironments within intact cells and tissues, non-destructively. Zebrafish (Danio rerio), one of the most important vertebrate model organisms used in developmental biology, are increasingly used in biomedical research, particularly as a model of human disease. In the present work, an attempt is made to study the effect of titanium dioxide, both nano and bulk, on the microenvironment of the liver tissues of Zebrafish using FT-Raman spectroscopy. The results of the present study suggest that TiO2 exposure demonstrate a marked influence on the microenvironments of the liver tissues of Zebrafish. A shift to a higher wavenumber and an increase in the intensity of the band at ∼1087 cm−1 in the TiO2 exposed tissues suggest that some of the conformational changes resulting from the alkali recovery process takes place due to TiO2 exposure. The decreased intensity ratio (I3220/I3400) observed in the titanium-exposed tissues suggests a decreased water domain size, which could be interpreted in terms of weaker hydrogen-bonded molecular species of water in the TiO2 exposed tissues. The observed shift of COO bands to higher frequencies shows the disruption of salt bridges as a result of a change in the oppositely charged partners and due to the enhanced random coil conformation. The variation in the intensity ratio of the tyrosyl doublet (I858/I825) indicates variation in the hydrogen bonding of the phenolic hydroxyl group due to TiO2 exposure. The results further suggest that the microenvironments are greatly altered due to titanium nano exposure when compared to titanium bulk. In conclusion, the results indicate that FT-Raman spectroscopy might be a useful tool for rapid assessment of nano particle biological interactions.  相似文献
