INAA and PIXE study on the complex modifications of human blood serum mineral composition in several hemopathies

The potential of the INAA and PIXE methods for the detection of mineral microelement changes in pathological human blood serum has been evaluated on nine cases of different hemopathies. These included hereditary hemolytic anemias (thalassemia, sickle cell disease, spherocytosis) and Hodgkin's disease. 23 elements (Na, Al, Cl, Ca, Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, Se, Br, Rb, Ag, Sb, Cs, Ba, Au, Hg, Pb) have been detected in serum. Their relative concentration variations correlated with the nature of the disease and with other pathological alterations of blood are discussed.     

Conditional charge distributions at very high energies

It is shown that the conditional charge distributions in hadronic collisions approach a zero limiting value in the central region at asymptotic energies, provided the average total multiplicities are unbounded. A limiting charge sum rule, which shows how these distributions follow the initial charges, is established and discussed.     

Fluctuations of the second order observables for dissipative processes in 19F+27Al system

The excitation function (EF) data for dissipative processes in ¹⁹F + ²⁷Al system in the incident energy interval from 113.5 to 130 MeV are used to obtain the dependence of the charge variance and of the interaction time as a function of the incident energy. Fluctuations are observed in the EFs of both these secondary observables. Their correlation is supported by a mechanism based on stochastic exchange of nucleons.     

Mechanism of copper underpotential deposition at Pt(<Emphasis Type="Italic">hkl</Emphasis>)-electrodes: Quantum-chemical modelling

Mechanism of copper underpotential deposition at stepped faces of platinum single crystals Pt(hkl) is studied using cyclic voltammetry, scanning probe microscopy, and quantum-chemical modelling. It is shown that the first stage of UPD is one-dimensional decoration of the (100)- or (110)-orientated steps, then copper monolayer forms at (111)-terraces. The final stage is the secondary step decoration. Quantum-chemical modelling, with the using of long-distance potentials of the Cu-Pt and Cu-Cu pair interactions, allows estimating the energy of copper adsorption at different structure elements of the substrate (steps, kinks, terraces) and revealing the succession of the adatom monolayer formation; it also provides additional information for the identifying of the nature of voltametric peaks for different stages of the copper adsorption-desorption.
