In quasi-steady operation, convection currents in a Bridgmandevice, used for producing a semi-conductor crystal, createinhomogeneities that may make the crystal unusable. It has oftenbeen suggested that additional forces due to rotation or magnetismmight be efficacious in reducing the segregation of the elementsof the alloy. It has been found that, over a wide range of rotationrates, there is no improvement in performance due to rotationabout the vertical axis. However, numerical results that havebeen obtained previously (Lee & Pearlstein, J. Crys. Growth240, 2002) indicate that, when effects of centrifugal buoyancyare introduced, a substantial reduction in segregation is achieved.In the work reported here, by contrast, in which we extend previouslarge-Rayleigh-number asymptotic analysis to include centrifugalbuoyancy, we find no improvement in radial segregation, butrather increasing segregation with increasing rotation rate. 相似文献

Four-wave mixing equations in photorefractive media are approximated by different dynamical models and treated by different numerical methods. It is shown that the onset of instabilities and irregular behaviour in the same crystal, with a single wave mixing region, may be dependent both on the model used and the numerical method applied. We study analytically and numerically spatiotemporal solitons in three-dimensional strongly nonlocal nonlinear media. A broad class of exact self-similar solutions to the strongly nonlocal Schrödinger equation with variable potential coefficients has been obtained. We find robust soliton cluster solutions of the accessible type, constructed with the help of Kummer and Hermite functions. They are characterized by the set of three quantum numbers. Dynamical features of these spatiotemporal accessible solitons are discussed. The validity of the analytical solutions and their stability is verified by means of direct numerical simulations. 相似文献

Thin films produced by depositing tin clusters with sizes between 5 and 10 nm onto silicon nitride substrates were found to
be
highly coalesced resulting in grains with sizes ~30 nm. Exposing the clusters to nitrogen before they were deposited significantly
reduced the coalescence between them and resulted in granular films where the clusters mostly retained their shape. This is
due to a small
amount of tin nitride forming in the clusters. The coalesced and granular films were used to fabricate tin oxide gas sensors.
This was
done by depositing the two types of films onto silicon nitride chips and then oxidising them by baking at 250 °C for 24 h.
It was found that the sensors composed of uncoalesced clusters were much more sensitive to hydrogen. This was attributed to
the smaller grain size and the larger surface area of the granular films. 相似文献

We present a new analytical method that systematically improves the convergence of path integrals of a generic N-fold discretized theory. Using it we calculate the effective actions S(p) for p< or =9, which lead to the same continuum amplitudes as the starting action, but that converge to that continuum limit as 1/N(p).
