Organic nanoparticles whose size and rigidity are finely tuned by cross-linking the end groups of dendrimers

Dendrimers with molecular weights ranging from ca. 2700 to 11 000 and from 16 to 64 homoallyl ether end groups were cross-linked using the Grubbs ring-closing metathesis reaction. A combination of SEC, MALDI-TOF-MS, and AFM were used to characterize the cross-linked nanoparticles. The data suggest a significant decrease in volume with cross-linking and a concomitant increase in rigidity, both of which can be controlled independently with a fair degree of precision.     

Inelastic electron scattering from nuclear matter

The response function, which is directly related to the cross section for inelastic scattering of electrons from nuclear matter, is calculated with the help of a time-dependent perturbation theory using a separable potential. All diagrams through second order in the interaction are computed and their contributions compared. The self-energy problem is examined, and it is concluded that a Hartree-Fock approximation is preferable to one which attempts to takeK-matrix insertions into account. Results for the response function are compared with those of previous workers.     

A monomolecularly imprinted dendrimer (MID) capable of selective binding with a tris(2-aminoethyl)amine guest through multiple functional group interactions

A molecularly imprinted dendrimer (MID) with a colorimetric reporter group exhibits three-point binding of tris(aminoethyl)amine in THF with a K(assoc)= 3.3 x 10(6) M(-1).     

A study of the photoneutron contribution to the giant dipole resonance in doubly even Mo isotopes

By using a variable monochromatic photon beam, the partial photoneutron cross sections σ(γ, n) + σ(γ, pn), σ(γ, 2n) and σ(γ, 3n) are determined in the region of the giant dipole resonance for the doubly even Mo isotopes ⁹²Mo, ⁹⁴Mo, ⁹⁶Mo, ⁹⁸Mo and ¹⁰⁰Mo. Measured integrated photoneutron cross sections are compared with available integrated photoproton cross sections as a function of A. Broadening of the giant dipole resonance as A increases is observed in good agreement with the predictions of the dynamic collective model. A tentative study of some isospin splitting effects is also carried out.     

A study of the photoneutron contribution to the giant dipole resonance of nuclei in the 64 ≦ A ≦ 86 mass region

The partial photoneutron cross sections [σ(γ, n) + σ(γ, pn)] and σ(γ, 2n) of ⁶⁴Zn, Ga, ^70,72,74,76Ge, ⁷⁵As and ^76,78,80,82Se were measured with a monochromatic photon beam and a high efficiency neutron detecting system in the photon-energy range 8 ≦ E ≦ 30 Me V. Integrated cross sections are discussed. The evolution of the GDR as observed through the neutron exit channel only, is tentatively interpreted either in terms of isospin splitting or in terms of the dynamic collective model.     

Active Molybdenum‐Based Anode for Dehydrogenative Coupling Reactions

A new and powerful active anode system that can be operated in 1,1,1,3,3,3‐hexafluoro‐2‐propanol (HFIP) has been discovered. In HFIP the molybdenum anode forms a compact, conductive, and electroactive layer of higher‐valent molybdenum species. This system can replace powerful but stoichiometrically required Mo^V reagents for the dehydrogenative coupling of aryls. This electrolytic reaction is more sustainable and allows the conversion of a broad scope of activated arenes.
