Nanogram amounts of mercury(II) and methylmercury in artificial sea-water containing mineral acids as preserving reagents were shown to be collected quantitatively with activated carbon. Mercury concentrated on activated carbon was determined directly by combustion, trapping on gold and electrothermal atomic-absorption spectrophotometry. The activated carbon was purified by heating at 350 degrees for 2 hr. Sulphuric acid and hydrochloric acid were purified by treatment with activated carbon. Interference from iodide was eliminated by using a carbonate buffer wash before the atomic-absorption measurement. Less than 4 ng of mercury in 200-300 ml of artificial sea-water, whether acidified or not (with sulphuric, hydrochloric or nitric acid), was satisfactorily collected with 100 mg of activated carbon. Mercury was also collected quantitatively after oxidative treatment of artificial sea-water.  相似文献

o-Nitrobenzyl triphenylsilyl ehther/aluminum compound has been previously shown by the authors to act as catalyst in the photopolymerization of epoxides. The dependence of the structure of the silyl ether on the catalyst activity was examined. There were two steps in the photopolymerization. The first step (“Step 1”) is photodecomposition of the silyl ether to silanol. The second step (“Step 2”) is the initiation of polymerization by silanol and the aluminum compound. The introduction of an electron withdrawing group, Cl, CF3, on the benzene ring bonded to Si made the quantum yield of Step 1 low, however, the rate of Step 2 was increased. The low quantum yield of Step 1 was explained in terms of the rate of electron transfer that is controlled by the relative electron density between the CH2 and NO2 in the o-nitrobenzyl group. The acceleration of Step 2 was explained in terms of an increase in silanol acidity that was promoted by the introduction of an electron withdrawing group. The overall rate of the photopolymerizatiol depends to a greater degree on the rate of Step 2 than on that of Step 1.  相似文献

The determination of nanometer thick layers of poly(methyl methacrylate) coated on to the surface of poly(ethylene terephthalate) film has been investigated by high resolution pyrolysis gas chromatography without sample pretreatment or modification of the instrumentation used. A good linear relationship was observed between the quantity of the characteristic pyrolysate and the thickness of the poly(methyl methacrylate) layer; the detection limit was sufficient to enable the quantitation of poly(methyl methacrylate)-to-poly(ethylene terephthalate) film thickness ratios of 1:20000 in composite materials.  相似文献

A half‐metallocene iron iodide complex [Fe(Cp)I(CO)2] induced living radical polymerization of methyl acrylate (MA) in conjunction with an iodide initiator [(CH3)2C(CO2Et)I, 1 ] and Al(Oi‐Pr)3 to give polymers of controlled molecular weights and narrow molecular weight distributions (MWDs) (Mw/Mn < 1.2). With the use of chloride and bromide initiators, the MWDs were broader, whereas the molecular weights were similarly controlled. Other acrylates such as n‐butyl acrylate (nBA) and tert‐butyl acrylate (tBA) can be polymerized with 1 /Fe(Cp)I(CO)2 in the presence of Ti(Oi‐Pr)4 and Al(Oi‐Pr)3, respectively, to give living polymers. The 1 /Fe(Cp)I(CO)2 initiating system is applicable for the synthesis of block and random copolymers of acrylates (MA, nBA, and tBA) and styrene of controlled molecular weights and narrow MWDs (Mw/Mn = 1.2–1.3). © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A method is described for the spectrophotometric determination of microgram amounts of zirconium, uranium(VI), thorium and rare earths with Arsenazo III after systematic separation by extraction. First zirconium is extracted into a xylene solution of thenoyltrifluoroacetone (TTA) from about 4M hydrochloric acid. Uranium(VI) is then extracted into a xylene solution of tri-n-octy lamine from about 4M hydrochloric acid. Thorium is next extracted into TTA solution at pH about 1.5, and finally rare earths are extracted into TTA solution at pH about 4.7. Each metal is back-extracted from the organic phase before determination.  相似文献

The weakly ionic amphiphilic diblock copolymer polystyrene-b-poly(acrylic acid) was synthesized by nitroxy radical-mediated living radical polymerization with precise control of block length, block ratio, and polydispersity. Systematical surface tension experiments and foam formation observations revealed that this polymer was non-surface active under neutral and alkaline (pH 10) conditions, while it was surface active under an acidic condition (pH 3). This result supports our proposed origin of non-surface activity; the image charge repulsion at the air/water interface is essential in addition to very stable micelle formation in the bulk solution. At a higher pH (pH 12), the polymer showed slight surface activity since the added NaOH played a role as an added salt. The critical micelle concentration (cmc) was estimated by static light scattering. Cmc increased with increasing added salt (NaCl) concentration as was observed for other strongly ionic non-surface-active polymers. Hence, this trend is characteristic for non-surface-active polymers. The pH dependence of cmc was minimum at pH 8–10. Since the acrylic acid block is fully ionized under this condition, the strong image charge repulsion at this condition accelerated micelle formation at a low polymer concentration, which consequently decreased cmc. Micelles in bulk solution were confirmed by dynamic light scattering, and the salt concentration and pH dependencies of the hydrodynamic radius of the micelles were also estimated. The pH-responsive non-surface-active/surface-active transition observed in this study strongly supports the fact that the image charge repulsion is an essential factor for non-surface activity in addition to stable micelle formation in solution.  相似文献

Domain swapping is an exception to Anfinsen's dogma, and more than one structure can be produced from the same amino acid sequence by domain swapping. We have previously shown that myoglobin (Mb) can form a domain‐swapped dimer in which the hinge region is converted to a helical structure. In this study, we showed that domain‐swapped dimerization of Mb was achieved by a single Ala mutation of Gly at position 80. Multiple Ala mutations at positions 81 and 82 in addition to position 80 facilitated dimerization of Mb by stabilization of the dimeric states. Domain swapping tendencies correlated well with the helical propensity of the mutated residue in a series of Mb mutants with amino acids introduced to the hinge region. These findings demonstrate that a single mutation in the hinge loop to modify helical propensity can control oligomer formation, providing new ideas to create high‐order protein oligomers using domain swapping.  相似文献

Recently, there has been a strong demand for technologies that use hydrogen as an energy carrier, instead of fossil fuels. Hence, new and effective hydrogen storage technologies are attracting increasing attention. Formic acid (FA) is considered an effective liquid chemical for hydrogen storage because it is easier to handle than solid or gaseous materials. This review presents recent advances in research into the development of homogeneous catalysts, primarily focusing on hydrogen generation by FA dehydrogenation. Notably, this review will aid in the development of useful catalysts, thereby accelerating the transition to a hydrogen-based society.  相似文献
