Reentrant orbital order and the true ground state of LaSr2Mn2O7

Contrary to conventional wisdom, our purified La 2-2x Sr 1+2x Mn2O7 crystals exhibit CE-type orbital and charge order as the low-temperature ground state for a hole doping level h=0.5. For small deviations from h=0.5, the high-temperature CE phase is replaced at low temperatures by an A-type antiferromagnet without coexistence. Larger deviations result in a lack of CE order at any temperature. Thus, small inhomogeneities in cation or oxygen composition could explain why others commonly see this reentrance with coexistence.     

Exterior products of forms and the cohomology ring of a complex space

In recent publications, we have defined complexes of differential forms on analytic spaces which are resolutions of the constant sheaf. These complexes were used to prove the existence of a mixed Hodge structure on the cohomology of analytic spaces which possess kählerian hypercoverings, in particular, projective algebraic varieties. We define an exterior product on these forms, which induces the cup product on the cohomology of analytic spaces. The main difficulty is to prove that this exterior product is functorial with respect to morphisms of analytic spaces. This exterior product can be used to prove that the cup product is compatible with the mixed Hodge structure on the cohomology.     

Correlation spectroscopy as a tool for detecting losses of ligand elements in laser welding of aluminium alloys

The plasma plume induced during laser welding of metals is a mixture of metal vapour, coming from the vaporised weld pool surface and shielding gas. The influence of the shielding gas on the welded joints quality is not yet well understood and very few investigations, to the best of our knowledge, were addressed to study its role in case of welding of aluminium–magnesium alloys. In this paper we present a study of the dynamics of plasma plume produced in laser welding of 5xxx aluminium alloys by means of correlation spectroscopy. By our results we can correlate the influence of the welding speed, in case of ineffective gas shielding, to the loss of alloying elements. Finally, the results obtained are consistent with the EDX analysis performed in post-processing on the welded joints.
