An interrogator for a fiber Bragg sensor array based on a tunable erbium fiber laser

An interrogator of Bragg sensors based on a narrow-band tunable erbium laser is developed. The laser characteristics enable one to interrogate up to 45 temperature sensors in a range of 100°C with an error of no greater than 1°C.     

Absorption spectra and the nature of complexes in the polyvinyl Alcohol-Nickel (II) chloride system

We have used electronic spectroscopy in the 160–1100 nm range to study the polyvinyl alcohol-nickel(II) chloride system. Based on the results obtained, we hypothesize formation of mixed-ligand complexes of the type [Ni(H₂O)_6-nCl_n]^2-n (n = 0, 1,..., 5) in the polyvinyl alcohol matrix. Transformation of the coordination sphere as the NiCl₂ concentration changes is apparent both in the region of the d-d transition bands (350–1100 nm) and in the region of the charge transfer bands (160–250 nm). Variation of the instability index on stationary curves of elliptic equations depending on a parameter

The set of solutions of the equation A(u, )=0 in the case of general position consists of smooth curves. Solutions of a quasilinear elliptic equation with large instability index are constructed and an estimate obtained for the number of turning points of the solution curves.Translated from Trudy Seminara imeni I. Anisotropic quantum spin fluid and quantum spin glass in La cuprate-based catalyst

Evidence of quantum spin fluid and of quantum spin glass behaviour has been detected by extended EPR analysis in some La-cuprate catalysts of general formula La_2−xEu_xCuO_{4 + δ}. Some features of the EPR spectrum, appearing in a few cases, are also discussed and attributed to a pseudo Jahn-Teller effect due to a particular coordination of up to five oxygen ions around surface copper ions at low temperature.     

A study by differential scanning calorimetry of the crystallization and the melting of D2O and D2O + H2O droplets dispersed within emulsions

Summary Crystallization and melting of microsize droplets of D₂O and H₂O+D₂O mixtures dispersed within an emulsifying medium have been studied by means of a Perkin-Elmer DSC 2 differential scanning calorimeter.

New fluorinated polysiloxanes containing an ester function in the spacer. I. Synthesis and characterization

Unsaturated perfluoroalkyl esters derived from undecylenic acid: CH₂?CH? (CH₂)₈? COO? CH₂? CH₂? R_F (with R_F?C₆F₁₃, 2a and R_F?C₈F₁₇, 2b ) and C₈F₁₇? (CH₂)₁₀? COO? CH₂? CH?CH₂, 2c were prepared with excellent yields. Their hydrosilylation by methylhydrodimethylsiloxane copolymers of various Si? H contents gives new fluorinated polysiloxanes which were examined by ¹H- and ¹³C-NMR, GPC, differential scanning calorimetry, and optical polarizing microscopy. Polymers derived from compounds 2a and 2b exhibit mesomorphic structures. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.     

Polysila analogs of aromatic hydrocarbon ions: Structures and energies of Si3H3+, Si4H,and Si5H5−

Silicon analogs of aromatic monocyclic ions, (SiH) ( 4 ), (SiH) ( 5 ), and (SiH) ( 6 ) have been studied ab initio at MP 2(full)/6-31G *. The D_3h structure of Si₃H₃⁺ is the global minimum, whereas other two ions are nonplanar. The D_2d structure of (SiH) is less folded than the carbon analog and possesses a higher stabilization energy. Stabilization energies for the monocharged ions are diminished with respect to the corresponding carbons © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.     

A New Practical Preparation of bis(Trimethylsilyl) Peroxide

Bis(trimethylsilyl) peroxide can be readily obtained by reaction of trimethylchlorosilane with the hexamethylenetetramine-hydrogene peroxide complex.     

1,3,2,4-Oxaazaphosphatitanetidine. Structure and Properties

The interaction of 1,3,2,4 -oxaazaphosphatitanetidines with chlorides of aluminium and zirconium, alcohols, piperidine and R₂NBr (R=SiMe₃) has been studied. The reaction routes have been determined with NMR spectra and X-ray structure analyses.
