One‐step synthesis of aminopyrimidines from 5‐Oxo‐4H‐benzopyrans

Novel 4‐amino‐6‐aryl‐2‐phenylpyrimidine‐5‐carbonitriles have been prepared in one step procedure from the readily available 4‐aryl‐2‐amino‐3‐cyano‐5,6,7,8‐tetrahydro‐7,7‐dimethyl‐5‐oxo‐4H‐benzopyrans. The mass spectroscopy study under EI conditions shows molecular peaks with high intensity corresponding to the loss of benzonitrile from the C2 position of the pyrimidine ring. Semiempirical (AMI and PM3) and ab initio HF/6–31G* calculations reveal a favored distorted geometry where the three rings are not in the same plane.     

Oligomérisation anionique de l'ethylène. I. Etude cinétique

A kinetic study of ethylene oligomerization in hexane, in the presence of n-BuLi–TMEDA complexes, allowed us to suggest a new mechanism for anionic ethylene oligomerization. n-BuLi and n-Bu(CH₂CH₂)Li species have the same reactivity. The RLi–TMEDA complex in a 1-to-1 stoichiometry is the active species. The following kinetic equation has been established: It reflects the intervention of associated species (n-BuLi–TMEDA)₂ as well as the influence of the concentration of the complexing agent on the kinetics of oligomerization.     

Reactions de condensation interpolymeriques a l'etat fondu

Condensation reactions between the anhydride groups of a copolymer containing maleic anhydride links and OH groups on different molecules were carried out in a plastograph, the copolymer being in the molten state. If dihydroxylated molecules or even telomers were used, the progress of reaction is easily followed by the rising of the consistency of the melt. The ester bridges formed between two copolymer molecules may be disrupted by methanolic transesterification in basic solution. Study of the reactivity of a series of monohydroxylated polymers of increasing DP showed that the compatibility of these hydroxylated polymers with maleic anhydride copolymer in the molten state is of outstanding importance for a good yield.     

NMR studies of interactions of new CB2 cannabinoid receptor ligands with cyclodextrins hosts. Correlation with micellar electrokinetic chromatography and reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography

Three selective CB₂ cannabinoid receptor ligands have recently been discovered to be promising anti-inflammatory agents but their low water solubility hinder their per os administration. The popularity of the cyclodextrins, from a pharmaceutical standpoint lies on their ability to interact with poorly water-soluble drugs and improve their solubility. Herein, three experimental approaches for calculating the stability constant of complexes between the selective CB₂ ligands and either the β-CD or the HP-β-CD, were tested: nuclear magnetic resonance, micellar electrokinetic chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography in reversed phase. In NMR studies the calculated K values were relatively high and were between 1486 and 3571 M^?1 with β-CD. With HP-β-CD they were between 1203 and 2650 M^?1. Concerning the two others techniques the K values were found lower. In MECK studies with β-CD they were between 308 and 792 M^?1 and with HP-β-CD between 124 and 764 M^?1. Finally in RP-HPLC studies with β-CD, they were between 539 and 1144 M^?1 and with HP-β-CD between 196 and 396 M^?1. These calculated constants suggest that a complexation phenomenon occurs. A model for inclusion of one of the CB₂ ligands in the β-CD was then proposed from molecular modeling studies.     

Proteome analysis of Aspergillus fumigatus identifies glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored proteins associated to the cell wall biosynthesis.

Previous studies in Aspergillus fumigatus (Mouyna I., Fontaine T., Vai M., Monod M., Fonzi W. A., Diaquin M., Popolo L., Hartland R. P., Latgé J.-P, J. Biol. Chem. 2000, 275, 14882-14889) have shown that a glucanosyltransferase playing an important role in fungal cell wall biosynthesis is glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchored to the membrane. To identify other GPI-anchored proteins putatively involved in cell wall biogenesis, a proteomic analysis has been undertaken in A. fumigatus and the protein data were matched with the yeast genomic data. GPI-anchored proteins of A. fumigatus were released from membrane preparation by an endogenous GPI-phospholipase C, purified by liquid chromatography and separated by two-dimensional electrophoresis. They were characterized by their peptide mass fingerprint through matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time of flight-(MALDI-TOF)-mass spectrometry and by internal amino acid sequencing. Nine GPI-anchored proteins were identified in A. fumigatus. Five of them were homologs of putatively GPI-anchored yeast proteins (Csa1p, Crh1p, Crh2p, Ecm33p, Gas1p) of unknown function but shown by gene disruption analysis to play a role in cell wall morphogenesis. In addition, a comparative study performed with chitin synthase and glucanosyl transferase mutants of A. fumigatus showed that a modification of the growth phenotype seen in these mutants was associated to an alteration of the pattern of GPI-anchored proteins. These results suggest that GPI-anchored proteins identified in this study are involved in A. fumigatus cell wall organization.     

A high statistics measurement of the Lambda(+)(c) lifetime

A high statistics measurement of the Lambda(+)(c) lifetime from the Fermilab fixed-target FOCUS photoproduction experiment is presented. We describe the analysis technique with particular attention to the determination of the systematic uncertainty. The measured value of 204.6 +/- 3.4 (stat) +/- 2.5 (syst) fs from 8034 +/- 122 Lambda(+)(c)-->pK(-)pi(+) decays represents a significant improvement over the present world average.     

Experimental evidence for a light and broad scalar resonance in D(+) --> pi(-)pi(+)pi(+) decay

From a sample of 1172 +/- 61 D(+)-->pi(-)pi(+)pi(+) decays, we find gamma(D(+)-->pi(-)pi(+)pi(+))/gamma(D(+)-->K-pi(+)pi(+)) = 0.0311 +/- 0.0018(+0.0016)(-0.0026). Using a coherent amplitude analysis to fit the Dalitz plot of these decays, we find strong evidence that a scalar resonance of mass 478(+24)(-23) +/- 17 MeV/c(2) and width 324(+42)(-40) +/- 21 MeV/c(2) accounts for approximately half of all decays.
