Synthesis,Characterization, and Crystal Structure of Thallium(I) Complex containing Monodeprotonated 2,6‐Pyridinedicarboxylic Acid

The reaction of an ethanolic solution 2,6‐pyridinedicarboxylic acid ( 1 , LH₂) with TlNO₃ in the presence of triethylamine led to the coordination polymer [Tl(LH)]_n ( 2 ). The complex was characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy and single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction. Crystal data for 2 at –80 °C: monoclinic, space group I2/a, a = 696.1(1), b = 1190.6(2), c = 931.0(2) pm, β = 103.28(1)°, Z = 4, R₁ = 0.0256.     

Synthesis,Characterization and Crystal Structures of new Coordination Polymers of Cerium(III) and Samarium(III) Containing 2,6‐Pyridinedicarboxylic Acid

The reaction of 2,6‐pyridinedicarboxylic acid ( 1 , LH₂) with CeCl₃·7H₂O and Sm(NO₃)₃·6H₂O in the presence of triethylamine led to the coordination polymer complexes [M(L)(LH)(H₂O)₂]·4H₂O [M = Ce ( 2 ) and Sm ( 3 )]. Both complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectroscopy and the crystal structures of 2 and 3 . Crystal data for 2 at ?80 °C: monoclinic, space group P2₁/c, a = 1404.6(1), b = 1122.1(1), c = 1296.1(1) pm, β = 102.09(1)°, Z = 4, R₁ = 0.0217 and for 3 at ?80 °C: monoclinic, space group P2₁/c, a = 1395.1(1), b = 1120.1(1), c = 1282.8(1) pm, β = 102.71(1)°, Z = 4, R₁ = 0.019.     

(Z)-3-p-tolylsulfinylacrylonitrile as a chiral dienophile: diels-alder reactions with furan and acyclic dienes

The behavior of (Z)-3-p-tolylsulfinylacrylonitrile (1) as a chiral dienophile has been evaluated from its reactions with furan and acyclic dienes. Electrostatic interactions of the cyano group with the sulfinyl one restrict the conformational mobility around the C-S bond, thus controlling the pi-facial selectivity, which is almost complete in all cases, the approach of the diene from the less-hindered face of the dienophile (that bearing the lone electron pair) in the predominant rotamer being the favored one. The regioselectivity is also completely controlled by the cyano group. Additionally, the reactivity of compound 1 as well as its endo-selectivity are both higher than those observed for the corresponding (Z)-3-sulfinylacrylates, thus proving the potential of sulfinylnitriles as chiral dienophiles.     

Narrow band quantitative and multivariate electroencephalogram analysis of peri-adolescent period

ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: The peri-adolescent period is a crucial developmental moment of transition from childhood to emergent adulthood. The present report analyses the differences in Power Spectrum (PS) of the Electroencephalogram (EEG) between late childhood (24 children between 8 and 13 years old) and young adulthood (24 young adults between 18 and 23 years old). RESULTS: The narrow band analysis of the Electroencephalogram was computed in the frequency range of 0--20 Hz. The analysis of mean and variance suggested that six frequency ranges presented a different rate of maturation at these ages, namely: low delta, delta-theta, low alpha, high alpha, low beta and high beta. For most of these bands the maturation seems to occur later in anterior sites than posterior sites. Correlational analysis showed a lower pattern of correlation between different frequencies in children than in young adults, suggesting a certain asynchrony in the maturation of different rhythms. The topographical analysis revealed similar topographies of the different rhythms in children and young adults. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) demonstrated the same internal structure for the Electroencephalogram of both age groups. Principal Component Analysis allowed to separate four subcomponents in the alpha range. All these subcomponents peaked at a lower frequency in children than in young adults. CONCLUSIONS: The present approaches complement and solve some of the incertitudes when the classical brain broad rhythm analysis is applied. Children have a higher absolute power than young adults for frequency ranges between 0-20 Hz, the correlation of Power Spectrum (PS) with age and the variance age comparison showed that there are six ranges of frequencies that can distinguish the level of EEG maturation in children and adults. The establishment of maturational order of different frequencies and its possible maturational interdependence would require a complete series including all the different ages.     

Preparation,characterization and heterogeneous catalytic applications of GO/Fe3O4/HPW nanocomposite in chemoselective and green oxidation of alcohols with aqueous H2O2

Graphene oxide ‐ Fe₃O₄ ‐ NH₃⁺H₂PW₁₂O₄₀ ^‐ magnetic nanocomposite (GO/Fe₃O₄/HPW) was prepared by linking amino ‐ functionalized Fe₃O₄ nanoparticles (Fe₃O₄ ‐ NH₂) on the graphene oxide (GO), and then grafting 12 ‐ tungstophosphoric acid (H₃PW₁₂O₄₀) on the graphene oxide ‐ magnetite hybrid (GO ‐ Fe₃O₄ ‐ NH₂). The obtained GO/Fe₃O₄/HPW nanocomposite was well characterized with different techniques such as FT ‐ IR, TEM, SEM, XRD, EDX, TGA ‐ DTA, AGFM, ICP and BET measurements. The used techniques showed that the graphene oxide layers were well prepared and the various stages of preparation of the GO/Fe₃O₄/HPW nanocomposites successfully completed. This new nanocomposite displayed excellent performance as a heterogeneous catalyst in the oxidation of alcohols with H₂O₂. The as ‐ prepared GO/Fe₃O₄/HPW catalyst was more stable and recyclable at least five times without significantly reducing its catalytic activity.     

Kinetic and thermodynamic studies on the adsorption behavior of Rhodamine B dye on Duolite C-20 resin

The adsorption behavior of Rhodamine B dye from aqueous solutions was investigated onto the cation-exchange resin, Duolite C-20 (hydrogen form). The effects of various experimental factors; sorbent amount, contact time, dye concentration and temperature, were studied by using the batch technique. Lagergren pseudo-first-order equation shows good applicability with high correlation coefficients for all ranges of initial dye concentrations and at different temperatures. This equation was used to describe the kinetics of the dye adsorption process. The adsorption constants were evaluated by using both the Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherm models. Thermodynamic parameters were obtained and it was found that the adsorption of Rhodamine B dye onto Duolite C-20 resin was an endothermic and spontaneous process at the temperatures under investigation.     

Synthesis of New 2-Aryl Substituted 2,3-Dihydroquinazoline-4(1H)-ones Under Solvent-Free Conditions,Using Molecular Iodine as a Mild and Efficient Catalyst

A simple, inexpensive, and efficient one-pot synthesis of 2,3-dihydroquinazoline-4(1H)-one derivatives under solvent-free conditions using a catalytic amount of iodine with excellent product yields is reported. This methodology provides easy, quantitative access to various 2,3-dihydroquinazoline-4(1H)-one derivatives, using commercially available iodine as a catalyst.     

Characterization of pure phase Zn(II) oxide nanoparticles via thermal decomposition of two zinc(II) complexes of the 6,6′-dimethyl-2,2′-bipyridine ligand

Two zinc(II) complexes [Zn(6,6′-dimethyl-2,2′-bipy)Cl₂] _n (1) and [Zn(6,6′-dimethyl-2,2′-bipy)I₂] _n (2) are synthesized from the reaction of the 6,6′-dimethyl-2,2′-bipy ligand with ZnCl₂ and ZnI₂. Zinc(II) oxide nanoparticles are synthesized by the thermolysis of [Zn(6,6′-dimethyl-2,2′-bipy)Cl₂] _n (1) and [Zn(6,6′-dimethyl-2,2′-bipy)I₂] _n (2) at two different temperatures. The ZnO nanoparticles are characterized by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). SEM images show the average size of the ZnO nanoparticles produced of 50 nm and 60 nm in compounds 1 and 2 respectively.     

One-Pot Synthesis of 3,5-Disubstituted 1,2,4-Oxadiazoles Directly from Nitrile and Hydroxylamine Hydrochloride Under Solvent-Free Conditions Using Potassium Fluoride as Catalyst and Solid Support

A one-pot synthesis of 3,5-disubstituted 1,2,4-oxadiazoles with two identical substituents directly from the reaction of nitriles and hydroxylamine hydrochloride in the presence of potassium fluoride as catalyst and solid support under solvent-free condition is described. Moreover, the formation of products has been discussed, and a plausible mechanism has been presented. Simplicity of the process, workup in aqueous media, and excellent yields are some advantages of this method.     

Effect of block lengths on the association behavior of poly(l-lactic acid)/poly(ethylene glycol) (PLA–PEG–PLA) micelles in aqueous solution

A series of poly(l-lactic acid)/poly(ethylene glycol) triblock copolymers with a PLA–PEG–PLA architecture were synthesized by a ring-opening polymerization (ROP) process. The copolymers were characterized by ¹H NMR and GPC. The total number average molecular weights were in the range of 4,700–50,000, whereas the degrees of polymerization of the PLA and PEG blocks varied from 15 to 359 and from 68 to 136, respectively. The self-association of these copolymers in aqueous environment was studied by emission fluorescence spectroscopy of anilinonaphthalene probe and the critical association concentration (CAC) of the copolymers was measured. It was found that the micellization process of these copolymers was mainly determined by the length of the hydrophobic LA block, while the length of the hydrophilic PEG block had little effect. Furthermore, the low CAC values of the copolymers suggest that the copolymers form stable supramolecular structures in aqueous solutions.
