The LPCTrap experiment: measurement of the β–ν angular correlation in 6He using a transparent Paul trap

We report on the status of the LPCTrap experiment, devoted to measure the β–ν angular correlation in the pure Gamow–Teller decay of ⁶He. This measurement is motivated by the search for the presence of tensor type contributions to the weak interaction. The ⁶He ions are confined in a novel transparent Paul trap. The β particles and the recoil ions are detected in coincidence to deduce the angular correlation parameter. The commissioning run performed in 2005 has given the proof of principle of this experiment. Up to 10⁵ coincidences were recorded during a second run in 2006.     

Specific high performance liquid chromatographic determination of the molecular weight and concentration of hyaluronic acid in complex mixtures by labelled hyaluronate binding proteins.

A simple High performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method for the specific determination of the molecular weight and concentration of hyaluronic acid (HA) in complex mixtures has been developed. Hyaluronate-binding proteins isolated from bovine cartilage labelled by 125I or fluoresceinisothiocyanate were used as specific markers. The specific binding affinities of the markers were compared and were found to have association constants of 1.6 x 10(7) M-1 and 1.2 x 10(7) M-1 respectively. The HA levels and molecular weight distributions can be easily determined in the range 10-500 ng/mL in complex mixtures by the use of markers, molecular sieving HPLC columns and appropriate detectors. It has been demonstrated clearly that the method is useful for the highly specific determination of the parameters in complex biological samples such as serum and synovial fluids and is recommended for clinical applications.     

Prospects of thermal analysis in polymer research

A survey and an analysis of the publications concerned in thermal analysis (TA) published in four renowned journals during the years 1965–1974 were performed. The published data were evaluated from three points of view: TA methods used for polymers, properties and phenomena studied by TA methods, types of polymers investigated by TA methods. From the statistical data were derived the future trends for the application of particular TA methods in polymer science.     

Trimethylsilyl-O-methyloxime derivatives for the measurement of [6,6-2H2]-D-glucose-enriched plasma samples by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.

A new method for the determination of the enrichment of [6,6-2H2]-D-glucose in human plasma by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) is described. (2,3,4,5,6)-Pentakis-O-trimethylsilyl-O-methyloxime-D-glucose is used as a derivative for the GC measurement. Using GC-MS with electron-impact ionization, the enrichment is measured in the single-ion monitoring mode observing the masses m/z 319 and 321. In contrast to other methods the use of this glucose derivative reduced the amount of plasma needed from 200 to 10 microliters and no chemical ionization equipment is needed for the mass spectrometer.     

Crystal Structures of 1,3-Calix[4]-bis-crown-6·3CH3CN and 1,3-Calix[4]-bis-(benzo-crown-6)·3 CH3CN

The crystal structures of a new solvate of the ditopic receptor 1,3-calix[4]-bis-crown-6, Bis-C6, and of 1,3-calix[4]-bis-(benzo-crown-6), Bis-benzoC6, are reported. Bis-C6.3 CH3CN (1) crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/n, a = 14.388(3), b = 26.947(8), c = 14.707(4) Å, = 113.19(3)°, V = 5241(5) Å3, Z = 4. Refinement led to a final conventional R value of 0.092 for 2723 reflections. The structure of (1) differs from the previously reported structure of Bis-C6.4 CH3CN by the conformation of one crown either chain. Two acetonitrile molecules are in the close neighbourhood of the crown ether cavities. Bis-benzoC6.3 CH3CN (2) crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c, a = 10.391(4), b = 17.264(11), c = 30.426(9) Å, = 94.62(3)°, V = 5440(7) Å3, Z = 4. Refinement led to a final conventional R value of 0.106 for 2965 reflections. Two acetonitrile molecules are located near the crown ether cavities, as in (1). One of the crown ether conformations is the same as in the binuclear caesium complex of Bis-benzoC6, supporting the hypothesis of a preorganization of this ligand towards the complexation of this ion; the second crown ether chain is partially disordered.     

Variaminblau als colorimetrisches Reagens

Zusammenfassung Es wurde ein colorimetrisches Verfahren mit Variaminblau zur Bestimmung von Fe³⁺, Cr⁶⁺, Mn⁷⁺, V⁵⁺, Ag⁺, JO₃ ^–, J₂ und weiterer oxydierender Ionen entwickelt. Äquivalente Mengen dieser Ionen geben dieselbe Extinktion, so daß eine einzige Vergleichslösung zur Auswertung der Extinktionen aller Ionen genügend ist. Es werden die günstigsten Umstände für die Bestimmungen entwickelt, weiter wird ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung von Fe^III, Mn^VII, Cr^VI, V^V nebeneinander beschrieben.     

Studies on stereoselective approaches to β-carboline derivatives

Transformation of β-carboline derivatives into optically active entities were studied and the de and ee values of the resulted compounds were detected. Dedicated to Professor Károly Lempert on his 80th birthday.     

A dinuclear uranium(IV) complex of the chelating ligand 1,2,3,4‐tetra­methyl‐5‐(2‐pyridyl)­cyclo­penta­diene

The ligand 1,2,3,4‐tetra­methyl‐5‐(2‐pyridyl)­cyclo­penta­diene (cp*py) forms a dinuclear complex with U^IV, i.e. di‐μ‐oxo‐bis­{chloro­(diethyl ether‐κO)[(η⁵,κN)‐1,2,3,4‐tetra­methyl‐5‐(2‐pyridyl)­cyclo­penta­dienyl]uranium(IV)}, [U₂Cl₂O₂(C₁₄H₁₆N)₂(C₄H₁₀O)₂], in which cp*py acts as a chelating ligand, being bound to the metal atom by the cyclo­penta­dienyl unit and also by the N atom of the pyridyl ring.
