Asymptotic normality of a robust kernel estimator of the regression function for functional ergodic data: Case of an unknown scale parameter

Under a nonparametric robust regression model, we consider the problem of estimating the score function ${\psi }_x$ for a fixed x in a functional space and with unknown scale parameter. The principal aim of this work is to establish the asymptotic normality of this estimator for a stationary ergodic process without any use of traditional mixing conditions.     

Evaluation of the reactivity,selectivity and lifetime of hydrotalcite-based catalysts using isopropanol as probe molecule

Hydrotalcite catalysts derived from NiAl and NiAlMg mixed oxides were successfully prepared by coprecipitation at a constant pH of 11. Physicochemical methods were investigated to determine their structural and textural properties. Using isopropanol as a probe molecule, the acid–base properties of the catalysts were investigated, and the evaluation of reactivity, selectivity and lifetime was established.

     

Polymorphism of Anhydrous Cadmium Iodate Structure of ε‐Cd(IO3)2

The investigation of CdCl₂‐HIO₃ system, in aqueous and HNO₃ solutions, revealed that anhydrous cadmium iodate presents a marked polymorphism. No less than four new Cd(IO₃)₂polymorphs have been isolated and characterized, two of which showing second harmonic generation activity. Single crystals of ε‐Cd(IO₃)₂ are obtained by slowly evaporating, at 60 °C, a saturated solution of γ‐Cd(IO₃)₂ in 30 % nitric acid. This compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pca2₁ [a = 17.581(2), b = 5.495(2), c = 11.163(2) Å]. The basic structural unit can be described as the connection of two cadmium polyhedrons with a short metal – metal distance of 3.88Å. These units are further linked through two other iodate bridges resulting in layers parallel to the (100) plane. The 3D linkage is ensured by short bonds of the fourth iodate group.     

A new regularized forward blind source separation algorithm for automatic speech quality enhancement

This paper addresses the problem of speech enhancement and acoustic noise reduction by adaptive filtering algorithms in a moving car through blind source separation (BSS) structures. In this paper we propose a new regularized forward blind source separation (RFBSS) algorithm that does not need voice activity detection (VAD) systems, and allows getting efficient speech enhancement performances with low complexity.     

Asymptotic behavior of an age-structured population model with diffusion

A reaction-diffusion system with stage-structure is studied. We provide well-posedness of the model and prove that time-dependent solutions evolve either towards a positive equilibrium or to the trivial one. Under suitable conditions, a branch of positive equilibrium is shown to exist.     

Mesophase study of pure and doped cyanobiphenyl liquid crystals with salen-type systems

Two salen Schiff base ligands derived from the condensation of ethylendiamine on salicylaldehyde and 5-chlorosalicylaldehyde, namely N,N′-bis(salicylidene)ethylene-diamine (L1) and N,N′-bis(5-chlorosalicylidene)ethylene-diamine (L2) as well as two of their iron(III) and nickel(II) complexes, were prepared and then used as doping agents of two thermotropic liquid crystals (LCs) of cyanobiphenyl type, namely 4-cyano-4′-n-pentyl-biphenyl (5CB) and 4-cyano-4′-n-octyl-biphenyl (8CB). The study of the mesophase of pure and doped LCs was carried out by UV–visible spectroscopy equipped with a heating compartment for precise temperature control, differential scanning calorimetry and polarised optical microscopy. The characteristic nematic/isotropic and smectic-A/nematic transition temperatures of 5CB- and 8CB-based systems were measured and then compared to those of the literature concerning pure 5CB and 8CB. Optical microscopy results revealed the existence of Schlieren and focal conic textures of the nematic and smectic states, respectively, both of pure and doped LCs. The homogeneity of the obtained guest–host systems was proven by the linear evolution of their transition temperatures as function of the solute concentration, with correlation factors close to unity.     

Rapid One-Pot Synthesis of Alkane-α,ω-Diylbisphosphonic Acids from Dihalogenoalkanes Under Microwave Irradiation

A one-pot, two-step synthesis of alkylenebisphosphonic acids from dihalogenoalkanes was performed under microwave irradiation. The reaction is very rapid and convenient for the synthesis of small samples of alkylenebisphosphonic acids.     

Phase-transfer catalyzed asymmetric arylacetate alkylation

Phenethyl arylacetates are alkylated under phase-transfer conditions with cinchona catalysts with alkyl halides in high yield with excellent enantioselectivity (84-99% ee) following recrystallization. Cinchonidine (CD) derived catalyst gave the (R)-product and cinchonine (CN) catalyst produced the (S)-product. The phenethyl (PE) ester group is removed, using ammonium formate and catalytic Pd/C, to give alkylated carboxylic acid products in high selectivity. The utility of the approach is demonstrated by a direct synthesis of (S)-naproxen^™.     

Correlation analysis on data sets to detect infectious agents in the airways by ion mobility spectrometry of exhaled breath

A correlation analysis of peaks found in IMS-Chromatograms was carried out to show the potential of the method in clinical applications. As an example, the data of exhaled breath of patients suffering infections of Pseudomonas were compared to healthy non-smokers. Using a rank sum calculation and providing a correlation table of all peaks found, delivers the basis for visualisation of highest ranked analytes. In addition, a consideration of positive and negative correlated peaks could support sub-grouping, if present. A set of signals could be found for discriminating the two groups of patients using MCC-IMS. Investigations of exhaled breath using ion mobility spectrometry seems to provide a promising means for the non-invasive identification of patients which are colonized or infected with bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
