The phase structure of chiral-asymmetric matter has been studied within the (2 + 1)-dimensional quantum-field theory with the fermion–antifermion and fermion–fermion (or superconducting) channels of four-fermion interaction. For this purpose, the model takes both the chemical potential of the number of particles μ and the chiral chemical potential μ5 conjugated to the difference between the numbers of right and left fermions into account. A series of phase diagrams was plotted for different chemical potentials. It is shown that the chemical potential μ promotes the appearance of a superconducting phase, while an increase in the chemical potential μ5 suppresses the effect of the chemical potential μ on a system. The results of this study may be of interest for high-energy physics, condensed matter physics and, in particular, graphene physics.  相似文献

Within the framework of the Lorentz-violating (3 + 1)-dimensional extended electrodynamics including the Lorentz-violating CPT-odd Chern-Simons term, we consider the electromagnetic field between two parallel perfectly conducting plates. We find the one-particle eigenstates of such a field, as well as the implicit expression for the photon energy spectrum. In order to find the leading Chern-Simons correction to the vacuum energy, we renormalize and evaluate the sum over all one-particle eigenstate energies using the residue theorem. The resulting correction to the Casimir force, which is attractive and quadratic in the Chern-Simons term, disagrees with the one calculated in [1] and based on wrong equations of motion. Compared with the experimental data, our result places a constraint on the absolute value of the Chern-Simons term.  相似文献

Vacuum polarization is considered in a model that takes the anomalous magnetic moment (AMM) of Dirac fermions in a uniform magnetic field in the presence of an additional axial-vector interaction into account. Corrections to the effective Lagrangian of the model that are quadratic with respect to the AMM and axial-vector interaction in different configurations of the given model parameters are calculated.  相似文献

We theoretically calculate the electromagnetic response of metallic rod dimers for the arbitrary planar arrangement of rods in the dimer. It is shown that dimers without an in-plane symmetry axis exhibit elliptical dichroism and act as "atoms" in planar chiral metamaterials. Because of a very simple geometry of the rod dimer, such planar metamaterials are much easier to fabricate than conventional split-ring or gammadion-type structures and lend themselves to a simple analytical treatment based on a coupled dipole model. Dependencies of the metamaterial's directional asymmetry on the dimer's geometry are established analytically and confirmed in numerical simulations.  相似文献

We propose the new concept of a switchable multimode microlaser. As a generic, realistic model of a multimode microresonator a system of two coupled defects in a two-dimensional photonic crystal is considered. We demonstrate theoretically that lasing of the cavity into one selected resonator mode can be caused by injecting an appropriate optical pulse at the onset of laser action (injection seeding). Temporal mode-to-mode switching by reseeding the cavity after a short cooldown period is demonstrated by direct numerical solution. A qualitative analytical explanation of the mode switching in terms of the laser bistability is presented.  相似文献

A planar Babinet‐inverted dimer metamaterial possessing strong optical activity is proposed and characterized. An original fabrication method to produce large area (up to several cm2) freely suspended flexible metallic membranes is implemented to fabricate the metamaterial. Its optical properties are characterized by terahertz time‐domain spectroscopy, revealing anisotropic transmission with high optical activity. A simple coupled resonator model is applied to explain the principal optical features of the dimers, with predictive power of positions and number of resonances through a parametrical model. The model is validated for correct polarization‐dependent quantitative results on the optical activity in transmission spectra. The fabrication method presented in this work as well as the slit dimer design has great potential for exploitation in terahertz optics.  相似文献
