Possible Supernova Multi-Explosions and Induced Gravitational Collapse

In this paper, three hotly discussed problems, namely the neutrino bursts, the blue progenitor, and the mixing phenomenon, observed in SN1987A are summarized. But it is pointed that while all the observations on SN1987A do not favour a twice-banged scenario, we have found three historical cases from ancient Chinese documents that might be interpreted as twice- or even multi-explosions of a supernova. Finally in a one-dimensional simulation we demonstrate that an induced gravitational collapse b possible.     

ON THE REACTION MECHANISM AND THE SELECTION RULE IN THE DOUBLE CHARGE EXCHANGE REACTION OF PIONS ON NUCLEI (DCX)-A STUDY OF THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE 2β-DECAY AND DCX ON jP=O+ NUCLEI

It is shown that in the pion induced double charge exchange reaction on J^p=O⁺→O⁺ nuclei,there exists a possible new reaction mechanism π⁺(Δ⁰,Δ⁺⁺)π^- or π⁺(Δ^-,Δ⁺)π^- in so-called single step process,while that old speculative mechanism π⁺(N,Δ)π^- or π⁺(N,Δ)π^- is firbidden by a well-known selection rule which has been indicated in the theory of the nuclear 2β-decay.     

COMMENTS ON THE NEW NEUTRINO "BALANCE": A DISCUSSION OF THE FEASIBILITY OF USING THE ELECTRON CAPTURE PROCESS IN158Tb, 157Tb FOR NEUTRINO MASS DETERMINATION

It is found that owing to the large energy difference in K-and L-shells of the daughter atom, ¹⁵⁸Tb is not the best candidate for neutrino "balance". Instead, ^l57Tb can offer a better chance for. neutrino mass determination if the Q-value 55 far obtained is verified. If it is so,then the relevant atomic calculation with high precision is very necessary. It is shown that to include the radiative correction in the Hartree-Fock calculation is very important for such atoms as ¹⁵⁷Gd and ¹⁵⁷Tb.     

APPROXIMATE B.S. WAVE FUNCTIONS FOR AN ELECTROMAGNETIC BOUND SYSTEM OF SPINS (1/2, 1/2) OR (1/2, 1/2) WITH UNEQUAL MASSES

The Bethe-Salpeter equation for an electromagnetic bound system of spins (1/2—1/2) or (1/2—1/2) with unequal masses are solved in this paper. The approximate B.S. wave functions for these systems are given. Utilising these wave functions, the decay rate and branching ratio for Ξ⁰→(Σ⁺μ^－)+v_μ are calculated with accuracy up to order O(α). The results are wΞ⁰→(Σ⁺μ^－)+v_μ1.12(1/sec) and R=[wΞ⁰→(Σ⁺μ^－)+v_μ]/[wΞ⁰→(Σ⁺μ^－)+v_μ]4.7×10^-7. Similarly, the process Λ→(pμ^－)+v_μ is also discussed.     

ON THE NEUTRINO MASS,THE ABUNDANCE OF RIGHT-HANDED NEUTRINO AND THE CLOSENESS OF THE UNIVERSE

We point out that although the neutrino mass is finite,the left-handed neutrino density still dominates over the righthanded one in the universe unless there exists one or more elementary fernions (quark or lepton) whose mass is larger than 10⁶ GeV. or M_WR/M_WL≤10². (M_WLand M_WR are the left and right handed intermediate boson respectively.If there exists neutrino the mass of which is about 34 ev. as indicated in some experiments, then one can conclude that the total neutrino mass of the universe s,bvld contribute abput 99%. to the whole masses and lead to the closeness of the universe.This conclusion can be brought to the agreement of all observation datd which have been-obtained so far. A mass limit of all species of neutrinos obtained by reexamining all data is ≤ 200 eV.     

Ω＋Ω→（ΩΩ）Jπ=0＋＋X Cross section Calculation

The cross sections of Ω+Ω→(ΩΩ)_J^π=0⁺+X are studied by using an effective Hamiltonian method. The results are σ_{Ω+Ω→(ΩΩ)0⁺+γ}=0.03～0.16×10^-29 cm² for p_Ω=100～400 MeV, and the cross sections of η production are about 10^-28 cm² for p_Ω > 880 MeV.     

Classroom note: Building simple hidden Markov models

Hidden Markov models (HMMs) are widely used in bioinformatics, speech recognition and many other areas. This note presents HMMs via the framework of classical Markov chain models. A simple example is given to illustrate the model. An estimation method for the transition probabilities of the hidden states is also discussed.     

Backward errors for eigenproblem of two kinds of structured matrices

In this paper, we consider backward errors in the eigenproblem of symmetric centrosymmetric and symmetric skew-centrosymmetric matrices. By making use of the properties of symmetric centrosymmetric and symmetric skew-centrosymmetric matrices, we derive explicit formulae for the backward errors of approximate eigenpairs.     

Synthesis, characterization, crystal structure, and electrochemical, photophysical, and protein-binding properties of luminescent rhenium(I) diimine indole complexes

We report the synthesis, characterization, and photophysical and electrochemical properties of a series of luminescent rhenium(I) diimine indole complexes, [Re(N-N)(CO)3(L)](CF3SO3) (N-N = 3,4,7,8-tetramethyl-1,10-phenanthroline (Me4-phen), L = N-(3-pyridoyl)tryptamine (py-3-CONHC2H4-indole) (1a), N-[N-(3-pyridoyl)-6-aminohexanoyl]tryptamine, (py-3-CONHC5H10CONHC2H4-indole) (1b); N-N = 1,10-phenanthroline (phen), L = py-3-CONHC2H4-indole (2a), py-3-CONHC5H10CONHC2H4-indole (2b); N-N = 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline (Me2-phen), L = py-3-CONHC2H4-indole (3a), py-3-CONHC5H10CONHC2H4-indole (3b); N-N = 4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline (Ph2-phen), L = py-3-CONHC2H4-indole (4a), py-3-CONHC5H10CONHC2H4-indole (4b)), and their indole-free counterparts, [Re(N-N)(CO)3(py-3-CONH-Et)](CF3SO3) (py-3-CONH-Et = N-ethyl-(3-pyridyl)formamide; N-N = Me4-phen (1c), phen (2c), Me2-phen (3c), Ph2-phen (4c)). The X-ray crystal structure of complex 3a has also been investigated. Upon irradiation, most of the complexes exhibited triplet metal-to-ligand charge-transfer (3MLCT) (d pi(Re) --> pi*(diimine)) emission in fluid solutions at 298 K and in low-temperature glass. However, the structural features and long emission lifetimes of the Me4-phen complexes in solutions at room temperature suggest that the excited state of these complexes exhibited substantial triplet intraligand (3IL) (pi --> pi*) (Me4-phen) character. The binding interactions of these complexes to indole-binding proteins including bovine serum albumin and tryptophanase have been examined.     

New Theoretical Results of 2νββ Decay with the Operator Expansion Method

The half-lives for 2νββ decay for all the potential Pp-emitters with A≥70 are calculated by the operator expansion method. Compared with the directly measured half-lives of ⁷⁶Ge, ⁸²Se, ¹⁰⁰Mo and ²³⁸U the theoretical values are in excellent agreement with experimental ones.
