Predicting the Capillary Imbibition of Porous Rocks from Microstructure   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
The kinetics of capillary imbibition into porous rocks is studied experimentally and theoretically. The Washburn law is modified by introducing various corrections relating to the microstructure of the rocks, such as tortuosity, pore shape (obtained experimentally), and applying the effective medium approximation (EMA) in order to calculate the effective radius that defines the hydraulic conductance and the topology of the capillary imbibition. The application of the EMA shows that capillary imbibition is mainly produced in 1-D, and the pore structure is constituted by different pore throats in series, linked by chamber pores. The capillary process has been discussed as a function of their petrography and pore structure. Our study of the Washburn equation and the addition of correction factors for the pore structure allows a very accurate prediction of the weight rate.  相似文献

Roughness parameters convey important information about the tribological properties of a material subjected to fretting conditions. They significantly affect the fretting life of the material. An experimental study has been conducted to characterize the variations in roughness parameters with respect to fretting wear and clearance in aero-engine spline couplings which are prone to angular misalignment. A dedicated test bench has been used to test spline couplings made of nitrogen hardened 42CrMo4 with crowned teeth. Tests were performed on samples of identical geometry and material under varying conditions of torque and misalignment angle between the hub and shaft of the coupling. Percentage differences in roughness parameters before and after the test have been characterized which showed symmetric variations, but interestingly mirrored in amplitudes for applied torques and misalignment angles. Even non linear variations behaved similarly for the most of the parameters. Both clearance and fretting wear were found to be in a direct relation with torque and misalignment angle. The parameters, namely peak count and mean height of the peaks have been found to be the most characteristic representation of fretting damage.  相似文献

Let Tn be a b‐ary tree of height n, which has independent, non‐negative, identically distributed random variables associated with each of its edges, a model previously considered by Karp, Pearl, McDiarmid, and Provan. The value of a node is the sum of all the edge values on its path to the root. Consider the problem of finding the minimum leaf value of Tn. Assume that the edge random variable X is nondegenerate, has E {Xθ}<∞ for some θ>2, and satisfies bP{X=c}<1 where c is the leftmost point of the support of X. We analyze the performance of the standard branch‐and‐bound algorithm for this problem and prove that the number of nodes visited is in probability (β+o(1))n, where β∈(1, b) is a constant depending only on the distribution of the edge random variables. Explicit expressions for β are derived. We also show that any search algorithm must visit (β+o(1))n nodes with probability tending to 1, so branch‐and‐bound is asymptotically optimal where first‐order asymptotics are concerned. ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The performance of a widely tunable phase-based beamformer for phased array antennas using a new technique to cross-polarized the carrier and the sideband, in order to allow the phase control by means of a spatial light modulator, is experimentally demonstrated. The technique relies on the combination of single sideband amplitude modulation (SSB) using a Mach-Zehnder modulator (MZM) and birefringence (to cross-polarized the carrier and the sideband). The architecture has the potential of controlling multiple independent beams simultaneously. The beamformer feeds an eight elements array showing an insertion loss and a reset speed of around 12 dB and 70 ms, respectively. Far-field antenna patterns between 7.5 GHz and 8.5 GHz for nine elevation angles within a range of ±20° have been measured showing beam steering capability, amplitude distribution weighting as well as multibeam operation.  相似文献

The survey of the relevant literature showed that there have been many studies for portfolio optimization problem and that the number of studies which have investigated the optimum portfolio using heuristic techniques is quite high. But almost none of these studies deals with particle swarm optimization (PSO) approach. This study presents a heuristic approach to portfolio optimization problem using PSO technique. The test data set is the weekly prices from March 1992 to September 1997 from the following indices: Hang Seng in Hong Kong, DAX 100 in Germany, FTSE 100 in UK, S&P 100 in USA and Nikkei in Japan. This study uses the cardinality constrained mean-variance model. Thus, the portfolio optimization model is a mixed quadratic and integer programming problem for which efficient algorithms do not exist. The results of this study are compared with those of the genetic algorithms, simulated annealing and tabu search approaches. The purpose of this paper is to apply PSO technique to the portfolio optimization problem. The results show that particle swarm optimization approach is successful in portfolio optimization.  相似文献

Role of pore structure in salt crystallisation in unsaturated porous stone   总被引:9,自引:0,他引:9  
Laboratory driven crystallisation of sodium sulphate and sodium chloride from concentrated solution in unsaturated porous stones has been performed. This contributes to a better understanding of the mechanisms by which salts crystallise and as a consequence limit the durability of porous materials which has an impact on buildings, civil constructions, and historical monuments. The identification of minerals in porous materials has been performed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Environmental Scanning Electron Microscopy (ESEM) and sequential profiles of X-ray diffraction (XRD) under temperature control of sample. The study of porous stones has been combined with experiments in capillary tubes. Data from SEM show that halite tends to precipitate on the surface of the stone with a similar distribution in all samples. However, the mirabilite–thenardite precipitation takes place preferably inside the stone and its depth from the surface and its relative concentration depends on the pore size distribution. In addition, mirabilite (Na2SO4·10H2O) crystallises homogeneously, whereas thenardite (Na2SO4) and halite (NaCl) tend to nucleate heterogeneously. To explain the precipitation sequence from concentrated solutions in unsaturated porous materials, a detailed analysis of the thermodynamic equations has been carried out by establishing a simple model. The proposed model shows the influence of the pore structure both on the water activity and saturation degree of involved salts.  相似文献

Azaserine is a bacterial metabolite containing a biologically unusual and synthetically enabling α-diazoester functional group. Herein, we report the discovery of the azaserine (aza) biosynthetic gene cluster from Glycomyces harbinensis. Discovery of related gene clusters reveals previously unappreciated azaserine producers, and heterologous expression of the aza gene cluster confirms its role in azaserine assembly. Notably, this gene cluster encodes homologues of hydrazonoacetic acid (HYAA)-producing enzymes, implicating HYAA in α-diazoester biosynthesis. Isotope feeding and biochemical experiments support this hypothesis. These discoveries indicate that a 2-electron oxidation of a hydrazonoacetyl intermediate is required for α-diazoester formation, constituting a distinct logic for diazo biosynthesis. Uncovering this biological route for α-diazoester synthesis now enables the production of a highly versatile carbene precursor in cells, facilitating approaches for engineering complete carbene-mediated biosynthetic transformations in vivo.  相似文献

The corrosion products of a TM 23 bronze-leaded alloy (Cu 72%, Pb 15%, Zn 8% and Sn 5%) were obtained in a salt spray cabinet after exposition during 120 h and 1000 h. The products obtained were studied using scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The major products of bronze-leaded corrosion were oxides and basic salts of Cu, CuCl2·3Cu(OH)2, and Pb, Pb(OH)Cl. The results can be attributed to a kinetic control of the corrosion reactions.  相似文献
